Industry giants monopolizing is not a good thing for gaming I'd say. This turning into buyout all competition.
From owning the platform it gets sold on, the platform it gets played on, the publishers and studios who maintain and develop, holy kek
It can be good or it can be bad. It really depends on who is running the show.
The decisions Activision/Blizzard was making….
Maybe MS ownership isn’t a bad thing imho
look at the business model surrounding MSFS
Microsoft has been good for gaming imho
skip the Steve Balmer days but that shows you the power of one.
After Microsoft's decisions with Minecraft leading to this silly situation where 2 games on 2 different engines are developed simultaneously copying eachother to be in parity because MS couldn't start to phase out java without massive backlash is just the type of thing that I don't trust much good comes out with having the decision people too distanced from their costumers, aka players here.
This is a problem with every industry when a company gets too big.
Thats one of the reasons companies create divisions and Publishers create or buy studios.
NFTs in WoW and Call of Duty 2023 100% Microsoft has it all set up. HAs had it set up for years!
Check out the Store inside of MSFS. You as a 3rd party can create anything you like for MSFS and put it up for sale in their storefront or on your own, your choice. If you use the store, you pay your commission, on your own you pay nothing. It’s your choice.
weird mentally ill person with their head canon delusion about kotick not profiting hard from this acquisition . "haha he's totally going to get fired!" he's 60 years old and has over 5 billion dollars.
anyway this isn't going to be a net positive for gaming as a whole, as microsoft has been proven to be anti consumer.
this is like epic games, setting the stage for all future games

We might see the victor of console wars in our lifetime.
I seriously doubt it. Both have been acquiring studios, Microsoft has made two big acquisitions, but Sony has the numbers. To be honest, as a PS fan, this news is also good for me.
First of all, competition pushes these companies forward.
Second, yes, I will probably lose a couple more titles, for instance, I might not get Diablo 4 on PS5 in the same way that I am not getting The Elder Scrolls VI, but those were cross-platform titles, and will remain cross-platform titles since Microsoft is only cutting Sony out as they will release on PC too. In return, Sony will retaliate by doing more PS exclusives. Now PS exclusives are the best games that I can possibly get for my PS5, and I will happily dump any non-exclusives as a sacrifice.
Third, Sony mostly does new IPs for exclusives, but Microsoft is basically buying sequels, again, I prefer the new over the re-hash.
Competition is good. Fanboys wishing for their 'console' to win are basically rooting for monopoly without realising its consequences. I didn't mean you, I mean other people that acually do.

That’s true buts it’s one conglomerate eating another.
Im much happier MS buying up Activision’s properties than the other way around.
I believe one companies ethics stands head and shoulders over the other.
"Now that Kotick and the rest of Activision Blizzard will be reporting directly to Spencer following the completion of the acquisition, however, it remains to be seen how Spencer will deal with the organisation’s ongoing issues."
It's most likely part of the transaction that Bobby K. will stay on. When the transaction is complete, nothing will be stopping Phil Spencer to kick Bobby K. He simply doesn't fit in Phil Spencer's work culture and has done nothing to address and fix the current problems. So there is simply no way he can continue to stay at ActiVisionBlizzard when the transaction is complete.
That statement is just to calm investors and not tank the stocks of ActivisionBlizzard.
They will work on a graceful exit for Bobby K. and let him leave the company on his own terms, as that is how things work at those levels.
I'm pretty sure MS inherits AB's commitments and Kotick has a contract that requires a hefty buyout. I'm sure MS will get rid of him within a year or just supersede his decisions.
Exactly. Either way it will become an impossible situation for Kotick no matter what. He is a top dog (predator) right now at ActivisionBlizzard and is never going to accept/being happy to suddenly having to report to someone higher.
Usually when there is a takeover, the new company looks at the salaries of the executives they inherit...He is vastly overpaid no doubt.
I'm interested in seeing how Nintendo and Sony respond.
Personally, I'd like to see Nintendo acquire Bandai and/or Koei. Especially Koei. The partnerships between these three studios have been excellent, and Microsoft acquiring any of them would be bad news for all of them.

Nintendo seems to exist in their little reality. It's almost like they either don't care about or refuse to acknowledge they have any competition. For good or bad, they've always done their own thing.
As for MS buying AVB, while this could bring some enormous value to my Game Pass sub, I don't think I care for the trend of large corporations consolidating like this.

Imho
Doooope only way to do it better is NFTs. Hate to have Microsoft lock you account and keep "your stuff".
NFTs on a public chain sold in a decentralized NFT market place is the safe way to go if you're a creator.
Microsoft has used both Enjin and Ethereum blockchains.

I'm taking a "wait and see" approach here. When Bethesda's next 2 games (Starfield and ES VI) launch, I take a closer look.
I'm with Scot on his take: Games have become so homogenized, I'm not what this acquisition could mean.
Anyway, I have heard it will be over 1 year(?) before it goes through, if it does.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
Back in 2011 I was offered a sum for my business. The offer was made from my largest customer at the time. Part of the agreement included me staying on for 2 years under salary for the transition. I decided against at the time because I wasn’t quite ready to hang up the gloves.
Do you think they will finally build World of Warcraft 2, or still see it as a monthly multi million dollar income and leave it alone ?...... After all they have to see expansions are loosening their mojo.
After all, for 70 billion they would have to have plans for their current projects and some of that has to be WoW. Anything completely new, they wouldn't need Blizzard.
Important: You would think to buy such a venture, they would have to have aggressive plans.
However, I first hand watched Cinram mfg. buyoff Time/Warner music division and NOT CHANGE A THING. But simply to knock off competition and collect income.
Well, shortly I will no longer be a shareholder in ATVI, but the shares of Blizz I purchased at 6$ a share in 2004 when Vivendi owned them , Microsoft is buying at 95$ , a i also sold off a bunch of ATVI at well over 100$ a few years ago , so it was a great investment, that me and my family will benefit from for many years .. I really am interested in what becomes of Blizz as a subsidiary of Microsoft, I have real concerns about how this will end .. I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure..

I'd seriously like to see a glimmer of anything positive on this for the end consumer, but all I'm getting is ...
Notice how we went from "customers" to "consumers?"
Customers are won by good business practices.
Consumers are assumed with little to zero effort.

I've heard that Sony's stock has dipped. Time to give them a go?

I don’t see video games as competition for each other. If a customer likes both, he will probably buy both. Not the case in my industry.
