Dude, you're in the company video for a game that needs all the help it can get. Clean your ass up, and try to look like you give a crap about your audience.
On a less grouchy note: Very happy about the travel/azoth update.

My # 1 takeaway from the video... beta is really progressing and they are focused on maybe building features many MMORPGs have had for decades (e.g. world events, arenas).
The Feb update is going to focus exclusively on squashing some of the "hundreds" of bugs uncovered.
I missed it, when did they say this game might be ready for release?

My concern is what will they do? If they add arenas that could be a huge problem right there. It also tends to make me think they are just looking at other MMOs and going "Ok lets throw that in". An arena could cause issues between existing PvP and arena PvP. The best way to solve the PvP problems we have seen mentioned would be a solution integrated into the current PvP system. Having separate arenas will have players asking the question "If I am going to PvP where are the best rewards for my time"? Unless this is finely balanced and rewards are separated players will pick the arena and ignore other forms of PvP other than regional control.
well according to steam they are #231 in sales so that cant be good. They have also dipped to around 80k concurrent and I can see that dropping to about 40k or less in the next month or three.
Its unfortunate but this is the kind of stuff we have to look forward to these days.

Reward balance is important as you said but given that it can work. When arenas were added to Albion with much lower rewards they did not harm OW PVP.
Can you tell us what they did there, just lower rewards, not even separate out types of rewards? That's quite encouraging because I have never seen new forms of PvP being introduced without some sort of detrimental effect.

Both. Appropriately lower fame rewards (fame=skillpoints xp) due to the no-loot, no-risk nature of the arena, plus specific tokens rewarded only there, which can be used for cosmetics or lower tier gear:
The arena addition was successful as a more chill, no stakes PVP loop and as a learning ground so it did not conflict with the OW PVP, just complemented it.
Yes, and you can only WIN the arena 3 times a day for rewards... afterthat you are just playing for fun/practice (which I play excessively... it's a great place to try out new gear/builds risk free). Also, gear stats are capped... so it's very fair and balanced.
There is also the Crystal arena league for 5v5 and 20v20 premades... those happen about once or twice per day(I think) at a scheduled time. You have to pay a ingame entrance fee and losers get zip. Tier 1 games you don't lose gear (lower payout), Tier2 winners keep enemies gear + match rewards. It's a ranked season, so your win record gets you into the end of season tournament.

Well NW have something tried and tested to copy right there, but as we have so often seen before the good ideas in MMO-land get left behind. So lets hope they use ideas from the right MMOs.
Yes, but have you tried pigstick on a lip before my friend?

I'm having fun, and there are plenty of others, at least on my server. It is a new team so they are learning together I imagine. As far as not knowing what they're doing, you don't put something like this without knowing at least a bit.
As long as improvements come consistently, I'm content. Although, I do agree there is a lot of work to be done.

New World is # 309 in top sellers on steam (which accounts for 100% of their game). NW is 4 months old.
nuff said.
