I think people should stop reading game reviews. This part of industry can go to hell, and not soon enough. We just need better refund periods and more trials.
its just corrupted like everything else. Cant trust anything anymore.

Corruption is a part of it. After all these years it doesn't really have any principles formed, people writing reviews don't even know the basics of how to actually write criticism. It's an industry of unstructured high school essays based feelings much more than facts or even opinions while trying to act cool and appeal to the youths wink wink who don't even have enough of a attention span to actually read anything past the first line by writers who think The Toilet Saga is a literary masterpiece.

I guess I am not their target audience, I actually read ‘The Tolstoj Saga’ when going through your post…..

I also think Elden Ring is GOTY material.

That's a safe approach. But it also helps for a person to have their own sense of taste. Even though it got rave reviews, some people won't buy it because they know its not their thing. It is my thing though, and I can tell that from the very beginning. I'd still buy day one even if it got a 6/1`0 because I am interested in the concept and I want to experience it for myself.

That doesn't mean I will stick with a game though. I bought ESO day one, but did not play after the free month until Elsweyr, which I did not play beyond the main story. The concept interested me. What other people say is less important. That is why I enjoyed Dark Soul 2 and FF13 and its sequels, even though they are widely panned.

Metacritic breaks down reviews for the different platforms depending on which one it was reviewed on. There are plenty of 10/10 on the PC.

Stuttering also isn't the only PC issue. There is a host of other issues recently ranging from invisible enemies to crashes:
      https://www.denofgeek.com/games/elden-ring-how-to-fix-pc-performance-issues-bugs-glitches/

However that wasn't my point. My point is simply that you either include performance when rating a game or you don't. It's hypocritical to use performance problems in one game to knock down its score and totally ignore it for another game because you're fanboing all over the game or the superstar developer.

Pick one. Performance either contributes to the final score (I think it should, but that's just me who also thinks monetization should also be used) or it doesn't and be consistent with how you apply it,
I agree with your point in principle. But even a single outlet may have multiple people that review their games. Depending on who does the review, they may care more about one aspect of the game than another, which will affect the score. Obviously, many of the reviewers for Elden Ring are already fans of souls game and go in knowing they will like it. But values and tastes differ from critic to critic. That's why it's good to get to know one that matches up with yours like @Sovrath did. You can depend on them to emphasize the information that is important to you when it comes to make a purchase decision.

I have it on PC, got a good card, no framerate issues. BUT this game is so damn clunky on the pc it's not even funny. This game is designed, built and made for consoles, not pc. Against my better judgement I got it on pc instead of ps5.. huge mistake imo.

If you are a console owner you are probably used to controllers. Just plug one in: "huge mistake" solved.

The framerate issue already got a patch that is reducing the files being loaded. Not sure if it fixes everything though. Did not have the opportunity yet to restart the game since.

No animation canceling is a major game breaker. Clunky combat, turn based waiting for the right moment after wasting time learning boss patterns...shit game only hardcore dark souls fans seem to like.

I usually don't mind when people hate a game or call it "shit", I prefer everything I like to remain niche, but WTF are you even talking about lol.

He seems to think not having animation cancelling is bad instead of just a feature, poor games like Devil May Cry and Virtua Fighter must not have been doing well. Or he doesn’t like the Souls genre in general, which is totally fine, the most sensical thing to do then is to call it a shit game, you can score extra edgelord points that way  ;)

It's amazing like no AAA game seems to ever work on release anymore. We're just asking too much for basic QA

Well I don't remember Daggerfall (1996) working well on release... and even after release...

You mean reviewers get paid to give good reviews, even if the game is imperfect? This is news to me

Yeah because they'll toss it away by saying, sure the game has some early bugs that will undoubtedly be fixed before too long, but the story and gameplay make this a 10/10.. *eyeroll*

I have no interest in playing and also no interest in crapping all over it, but from the reviews I can say that it is hard to say what is true. How can a game be the future of open world games by one person and then another says that the open world is not great as you quickly learn the NPC's are predictable and after learning the area it's not that mindblowing?

You can rebind most things keyboard wise. They don't bother giving you keyboard prompts for things, everything is prompted as xbox controls. Fyi Z, X are lbutton rbutton. You can't rebind g which is interact.

The camera is made to respond to stick input. You can control it with the mouse, but it makes me feel somewhat not so fresh. Its like too sensitive in the small movements and not enough in the big movements. It it likes to correct and pan on you, if they just did something simple with it like an mmo camera would be better.

    Controller feels good though.
To change how the prompts are displayed:

Under System Options find "Sound and Display" (3rd tab from the left).

On the 8th line down you should see: "Device for On-Screen Prompts" where you can cycle between "Game Pad" and "Keyboard and Mouse".

Annoying that it doesn't auto-select. It was very noticeable for me because I just finished the campaign for Cyberpunk 2077 and the game seamlessly changes prompts depending on which control method you use. Very helpful because I played KB&M but drive vehicles with a controller.

had PC version stuttering mid-sprint while outrunning a trap that insta kills you if it touches you,

can't imagine why this game got so many 10/10s and glossed over performance issues like some day 1 patch will fix the problem.

I think it's because initially the stuttering wasn't as bad but the "day one patch" introduced the issue.

Which so happens to coincide with the sudden inclusion of useless....*cough* Easy Anti Cheat.
