I cannot understand this mentality, the staff in those games may well be against the war; our governments have not ceased doing all trade with Russia yet what you suggest is that the public cease all trade as individuals.

Our governments have made a balanced decision, I am not saying they have it exactly right, but if the west impacts the Russian economy too much, then two things will happen. The people of Russia will suffer, not Putin and Russia can mitigate the effect by looking elsewhere for trade, indeed this will put the policy in their minds "why are we doing trade with the West when they can hold us to ransom"?

As this is a political thread this will be my last post in it.

Some. Escape from Tarkov should be one of the most visible ones still.

I don't like the ideas of boycotts but we don't really live in normal times with this insanity of a war on the European borders. I think, be it bans or not bans, the damage has been done when it comes to the distancing that the generally occident countries will keep from Russia and anything attached to them.

Pathfinder Owlcat games is a Russian company based in Moscow. I don't agree that punishing Russian citizens who have no control over Putin is right so I will not do that.

What about punishing Blizzard employees who have no control over what their management does?

What about boycotting Chinese made products since their government is one of the larger nation state cyber terrorist organizations in the world.

    Facebook/ Meta, Google, boycott?

When is it OK to boycott or not?

I think in every case it comes down each individual's conscience on what to support or not with their money.

As an old cold warrior I've never liked Soviets, no matter what they call themselves these days, so I've no problem boycotting their games and actually been doing so for many years, ie LA.

I don't think it's a bad idea if someone wants to boycott something because of their beliefs. I think in this situation people just want to help in some way, and they otherwise feel powerless, so they have to start somewhere.

I don't think anyone should attack the OP for trying to help. Maybe other suggestions would be a better option.

Personally, I don't think I've played a russian game since Allods. And that didn't last very long.

Even if you want to avoid sending money to Russia, it doesn't make any difference to decline to play a game that you've already paid for and can play without paying further.  If you want to avoid buying additional games, fine.  You can make your own purchasing decisions on whatever basis you want.

Personally, I'll sometimes boycott particular companies that have done something I don't like, though even that tends to be only a soft boycott of avoiding them when it's easy to do so.  Of course, the gaming industry is so competitive that avoiding any particular game developer or publisher is nearly trivial.

1C is a russian publisher. They had nothing to do with the development of any of the Fallout games, their involvement was publishing the game to Russia.

No outrage, just wondering if there were any products you (or others) would boycott and for what reasons.

Post was more rhetorical in nature than directed specifically at your response.

I did state it comes down to an individual choice, yes?

Happy Friday, time to spend the weekend re-reading Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising... Oh, and playing Fallout 76, because...you never know when extra power armor training might come in handy.

I don't understand the boycott Russia this and that.  The majority of the Russian people and probably alot of the Russian soldiers don't want this war.   Not sure why we would be punishing russian athletes / games / whatever when they have nothing to do with what Putin or the govt does.

I'm sure most of Russian soldiers don't want this war either, but those that kill them in Ukraine are still heroes.

It's nothing personal against individual Russians, and we need to remember to avoid personal attacks. But you can't fight a country without fighting their representatives: Whether it's killing soldiers, boycotting businesses, preventing payments, or banning athletes, you can't hurt a country without hurting the people in it.

And Russia attack another independent country, so frankly right now they need to be hurt in defense of Ukraine, as much as needed until they cease their attack.

The only way to punish a government  (outside of by force of arms) is through it's commerce which impacts it's people unfortunately.

It started with Kyleran saying he boycotts Russian games and then you incorrectly stating that Fallout is developed by a Russian company. When someone corrected your mistake and Kyleran expressed his relief at the fact that Fallout isn't actually developed by a Russian company, you replied with:
