Over on Massively OP they don't have open forums, rather posters can only discuss the news stories or topics the site's staff members make available, which rapidly age from view.

I don't care for their format or the heavy handed and often snarky moderation which rarely permits discussions between posters, it's more of a post your own thoughts and move on situation.

Looking at the Pub today I noticed a thread I created almost a month ago was still on the first page.  There was a time when the Pub was a happening place, with people creating new topics of discussion on a regular basis.

I used to often check not only the "hot topics" but Pub and even game forums I was particularly interested in, but not so much anymore.

This is partly due to the shit searching tools, at least on my Samsung phone, the only way to get to a specific game forum I've found is to scroll page by page one at a time starting from the "A's" downward.

Makes posting in a game forum very painful unless I can find one in recent posts which I can quickly link to, so I often don't bother.

There's other reasons as well, but I'll leave off for now.

Finally, I noticed today the forum front page had nothing but site created News Stories, so apparently it's become just like MOP after all.

It's not just the MMORPG genre which is reeling these days.

The Mobile template of mmorpg.com it's .. how should I say. It's like that Hi5 page you were randomly visiting back in the days and you were like "wtf is this shit?!".

Random ads everywhere and with every load of a page. Things are very bad positioned. The search, forum, comment, etc sections are .. pathetic.

Not to be that guy, but since the "old" guys have left, this site is run by pretty amateur people. Most of the News and Articles are written with SEO in mind and most of the time in a .."rush" manner.

In short, there is no soul left in this site. It's on "auto-mode".

im old skool and i dont like discord and really dont like reddit. Reddit is is a popularity contest only and its hard to get good information since various memes are always the most popular.

Discord is better than reddit but on a busy discord the posts fly off into the darkness too quickly and youll only ever get "right now" for the most part.

neither can beat good old forums but the kids these days have no attention span and cant focus on anything for more than a couple of seconds which reddit and discord both reinforce by design.

I have also trouble to adapt to discord.

However, reddit is my way to go. And yes you are right, it is full of memes and other stupid stuff,  but you have to look for the proper reddit to get meaningful info.

    For example:
The Genshin Impact official reddit is full of cosplayers:

    and creepy waifus artists:

    But

GenshinImpactTips features useful guides and theorycrafting battles such as:

Meh, reddit mods ban scores more people than this site ever did, heck several of those frequent posters took themselves out of the game.

Besides, no one can get someone else banned, that's entirely on the poster to keep control of their mouths.

Difference is reddit keeps replenishing their losses, unlike this site who can't seem to attract interest from younger gamers.

Probably because the younger gamers don't have much interest in something that peaked 18 years ago......IF it were just a general gaming forum, then they would probably come if it was hip and interesting enough for them.

I just do a random one liner, or offer my opinion and move on.  Anyone feel free to agree, disagree, say I'm awesome or wonder what I'm on about. It's a forum. Might even reply too sometimes. If bans occur there is reddit or MoP where I can do the same.

This is why for example Deletes threads never bothered me, we need new threads and the onus is on us to post them. When I think of how much I post in comparison to how many threads I start there is a paucity of threads on my part.

I still don't know what the fuck happened to Gdemami he was one of the guys to react to to one of my first posts, so I have him fresh in my brain
I think I do know, have seen much worse permitted here since then, pointed out to mods they should consider unbanning him and Wizardry but no luck.

Just look at the logic of your response.  You say the difference between Reddit and this place is that Reddit replaces its members and we do not.   So.. if we take that as face value.. every time we BAN someone we eliminate a non-replenishing resource.  That means we take ourselves 1 step closer to The Nothing.

As I said previously, people get themselves banned by not following the rules, (and I do believe in following rules, lawful neutral is my alignment) and it's the mods who do the banning, no one else.

But that wasn't really the point, I'm trying to understand what it is about this site that fails to draw new posters or ones willing to discuss games vs say a Discord or reddit sub.

There are more new posts / responses on r/CatsAreAssholes than here most days. (A personal favorite of mine) ;)

One reason I think is reddit often offers visitors suggestions to visit other subs, so someone dropping in to check on a specific game might be offered a look at the MMORPG or other gaming channels.

No, I think it is just the breadth of topics covered or functionality like being able to talk. But your ideas on redirecting links being more common in this site would be a good step.

If conversation is your only goal, and quality of conversation doesn't matter, then this response makes sense.

Creating content here for the sake of creating content won't get you where you think it will, unless you love talking about things no one wants to talk about on a video game forum (i.e. religion, politics, etc.).

Quantity is important, but you cant just ignore quality completely.

Disclaimer: this is a general response to your post's message, not a specific response about those you mentioned.

Is there something about that which prevents you from creating a topic about how great you think new game XYZ is?  And explaining why?  And being able to withstand some folks who might feel differently?  And perish the thought, maybe actually persuade someone to your viewpoint?

The whole point of a discussion forum is to have different points of view.

Well the first question is "why they got banned" (if they got banned) ? There might be good reasons?
Are there good reasons to ban people? In my book yes.

There IS a difference between disagreements and some offensive behaviors.

A forum needs disagreements but not fostering hatred for example.

PS: I am not implying that the aforementioned posters have been guilty of anything. I simply don't know what happened to them.

Reddit, the downvote system is quite cruel. It really buries threads because people don't like what is discussed rather than on any merit.
