No… it can be extraordinarily difficult.  I can rattle off a dozen from the daily news but that would end up getting very political.
A dozen what, exactly?  Random facts skimmed from the daily news?

We're talking about proving or disproving individual factual statements.  I'm not talking about trying to suss out whether a media outlet has a political lean or bias- they all almost assuredly do.
What we are told are “facts” today turn out not to be reality later. I don’t trust anyones “facts”.  Heck with deepfakes we soon won’t even be able to believe our own eyes and ears.

    Edit to add gaming example:

Example… someone says Chronicles of Elyria is a scam.  Points to list of statements by developer that proved to be untruthful and lack of any tangible product.  Someone else objects and reports that person for libel… Says that the developer didn’t lie because they believed what they said was true..the developer was trying their best…

Which is the truth?  Who gets to determine that?
Libel is a very specific legal term.  Unless the person making those statements was proven negligent in a court, it isn't libel.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm okay with mods taking action on my account if they so choose.

This isn't a value judgement on them, you, or anyone here when I say if I were banned I would just...  Kind of move on living my life.  First world problems, right?

There's a reason ole George had the government in 1984 issue the command to the citizens to ignore their eyes and ears.  Just a thought.

I come to a gaming forum to talk about games, and things related to games.

There is some breath on what could be good discussions in this regard.

Now, I am real happy for you if you don't mind getting banned or whatever, because, fuck yah, you need to vomit political bullshit everywhere you go, but don't you have enough outlets for that you don't need to do that here.

It's like those assholes that spend hours in the common lobbies in MMO's like The Marketplace in DDO, or Lions Arch in GW2, talking about politics, like look MF'er, I am here to play a game, a few hours of escapism, can't you go to Facebook, Twitter, TicTok, Reddit, or somewhere else for that shit?

So why you need to dump political shit on a gaming forums?

I think that is the real question.

If a game has lore, then politics (or rather the political views of the developers) also plays a role.

and I would embrace a deep, thought provoking discussion about game lore and politics.

and in that Vein, in what is your stance on Queen Jennah's tits, The word on the street in Kryta is that they might not be real, and just an illusion she keeps up for the masses to give them thirsty boys something to look at while her lips are moving.

In other News, the Stormreach Chronical Cryer has run an Opinion piece, and asked their readers, should Delera the 17th, make peace with Great ever so great grandmother Delera the First, now that a Necromancer has brought her back and using her soul to power near unkillable wraths that are haunting the Graveyard she built.

I don't generally bring the topic up.  But if I see it mentioned, I won't shy away from adding my opinion.  Again: the mods can end that easily, if they so choose.

Also: you do have the option of placing anyone who posts about politics on ignore, if simply skipping their replies when you see the topic is about something you dislike isn't working.  I don't know you, you don't know me; I won't take it personally.

Sure I have the option to Ignore people that do that. You also have the option to simply not talk about it. See how that works. You could just you know, not talk about it here.

Not sure how you roll, but, I am on a few online communities that focus on politics, so when I am feeling that urge to slog it in the sewers of people spewing political facial matter out their mouth anus, I have no shortage of ventures open to me, to get that kink on.

Which is why, I have no need to bring that everywhere I go. I have proper outlets for that, when the urge hits.

So, maybe you might want to do the same, that way you can get a nice Social Media Enema to get that Impacted Political shit out of your system, before coming here to talk about games.

Well spoken, but I don't see any ideas for a solution. If you're asking everyone to stop being so dumb, well, I just can't oblige. (get it? I'm dumb. ha!)
I think a lot of the disinterest could come from the lack of freedom of speech, we simply aren't allowed to speak on anything that we want, and when it comes to disagreements people are probably in fear of the banhammer. That leads to a lot of stifled opinions and lurking. It should be a similar setup to reddit where if someone says something offensive they just get downvoted to hell and no one cares. Who the heck wants to go to a forum, which is designed around speaking your mind, and then get consequences when they do?
Another thing to consider is that forums are simply getting to be a dated platform, why go to the MMORPG forums when theres a plethora of gaming subreddits and the like that can more specifically cater to your tastes? I wouldn't read too much into the lack of engagement on this site, a number of factors could play into that. The only reason I know this place exists is because of a 'free to play MMORPG list' thread that someone made in The Pub 20 years ago that I regularly referred to as a kid.

No, it's not lack of "freedom of speech" as you can talk on most topics. You're not going to be able to speak about incendiary topics such as politics or race or "whatever" but that's not what these forums are about.

Add to it that a good many posters just can't "keep it in their pants" and talk civilly and you get a good amount of your bans.

"Politics" are getting into everything these days, gaming and MMOs included. It makes it hard to NOT talk about, or even mention politics when it invades the gaming and entertainment space.

It invades our movies, comics, and TV shows. Where do those of us who HATE politics supposed to go? Especially when "wrong think" is the one getting "banned." Talk about shutting down discussions :(

Well, I suppose if you want to go that far then politics or any type of social commentary has always been in media, whether it's books, poetry, movies, theater, art "whatever."

Not every instance mind you, but it goes way back.

The problem with video games is that they started as "games." No social commentary in pong, no politics that I'm aware of in Space Invaders or Defender. Or Doom.

But as soon as stories started being added and expanded then you get the creators adding in all sorts of stances or commentary.

For me I try to just take it as their opinion and move on. I don't want to be that person who is constantly besides themselves because of some sort of message the creator wants to give. It doesn't take anything away from me to have it exist.

If for some reason it gets so heavy handed that it takes away from the experience then sure, I'd just stop and move on to something else.

Part of living among people with different opinions is not letting those opinions fester bad feelings inside.

there are a few extreme opinions that "get my goat" but I can just as easily turn that off and move on to something else.

Well that was ... not gonna lie, an unexpected twist at the end.

We had someone come in, act all tough, wanted to start hot button heated discussions, and treated everyone here like NPC's by stating they didn't care if they got banned or not.

I said they were acting like a troll, they throw a tantrum, and ignore me.

Somehow, I don't think they really had what it took to engage in hot button inflammatory political discussions, nor do I think they could have handled being banned for it.

And that folks, is why we should not have them.

I hope this has been enlightening to everyone.
