That's quite the drop.
Shouldn't mmorpg.com have a weekly news post about its decline?
Shouldn't the usual buzzards be circling the soon to be corpse with clever posts like "tick... tick... tick..." or some such?
Interested observers would like to know why no one is talking about this

After all, it's just been held up as proof that the MMORPG genre is sound.
Once upon a time....
Just having some cheeky fun on the heels of all the negative furor around here when a similar (almost exactly the same kind of drop in the same amount of time actually) thing happened with New World.

Successful games have drop offs too, but not like this.
But I understood your fun intentions. I feel kind of bad about jumping in with my replies. But it is what it is.
Once upon a time....
If you're drawing parallel's to New World's rapid decline, and the amount of attention that got, then I'd think there a few distinctions worth making;
In many cases, people paid $40 to stop playing a game that relies on having a healthy population of other players for the things that were supposed to be more fun. For the players that are there, it feels like some tools are missing that would make it easier to tackle group content. While I enjoyed the game, it has been plagued with issues (the dupe issue has been duped!) and generally seems to have been poorly managed.
Beyond that, this was AGS' flagship game, that they developed, and which lost some people when it changed direction midway. Those people likely feel some vindication in the lack of success. Whether you think that's justified or not, the "I told you so's" were bound to happen.
Conversely, Lost Ark carries no box price. The leveling experience, in my opinion, has been pretty painless and grouping up for various content is just a click of a button. It's also existed for a while before the EU/NA releases so, while issues exist, those issues haven't seemed as damaging as what New World has been going through (at least, so far).
Maybe when we hear about round 2, 3, [n] of server merges, the pitchforks will come out. For right now, it's a bit apples and oranges though...

And the Lore... the flow was terrible. Started out with Demons.. okay I can get on board with kicking some demon ass.. but wait, we are now a pirate game.. wtf? No wait, we are now a glorified Smurfs game.. would have been a lot more fun if they painted them all blue and you had to chance around 1 single hot Smurf. And then when it can't get any worse, it's a steam punk game of some kind with machines and future stuff. WTF am I playing with this game?
To keep it short, the game is trash. No idea why it's so big overseas.. just desperate people with desperate lives over there with nothing to spend their money on I guess.
I wanted to keep going with the original demon theme, That was the best part.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

I remember all the white knights saying the New World train wreck was perfectly normal for the start of a game and that New World would have even more players in 6 months wait and see. Guess that prediction didn't pan out.
So many NW defenders trying to say how amazing the game was. Anyone with a clue saw the End game was a turd, and its was about to be flushed, yet the White Knights were out in force defending.
I remember the comments like the population is leveling off at 500,000 and in a couple of months everything would be fine posts. Dupe bugs, perfectly normal. Hacks perfectly normal. No End game, perfectly normal. For months there were people here saying everything was fine, nothing to see here.
So the continual decline posts were in reaction to that, to poke fun at the people with their head in the sand.
The game has some severe issues regarding gear progression systems. Gatekeeping progress to RNG based honing just isn't fun. Add in the ability to buy extra mats for cash and you end up with like 0.01 % of players able to access Argos and whales spending thousands to join that group.
Smilegate takes more blame than AGS as they know the problems it would create and released it that way in the west.
I'm sticking with it but there have been days where I had difficulty logging in. I did hit T3 yesterday and because of the mess that is hitting 1370 I no longer have specific goals on my main.

I did think initially I won't be affected but as I read what others here posted about the bot problem I became a little disgruntled over the fact that Amazon is only paying lip service to this problem. They need to seriously find a way to stop this problem or it will simply be one of the myriad of reasons people leave.
It did not help that a few games came out, Elden Ring included that took people's interest away. Sometimes when you stop playing you find less and less reasons to log back in. It is unfortunate but the initial queues and other problems sapped people's enthusiasm to stay invested. Being invested in an MMORPG is the number one thing a developer has to ensure to keep a population.
I have never made any talk of Lost Ark shuttering, pkeae point to that .. ohhh wait , you can't cause it does not exist ..
I never made any prediction to LA retention in any way .
I have no horse in this , nor do I White Knight .
Now , unless you actually think that LA will be shuttering you really have nothing to say here ..so if you are predicting LA shuttering please do so.. we love to hear it.. Otherwise you really have no point at all..
Let me help you
IT WONT BE
Can you say the same of NW which is struggling to keep 20k concurrent
I stand by my forecast for NW Tick....Tick....Tick....Tick.... Tick..
LA will be fine and have a much better future than NW , I will say that, there is no countdown on LA ...
NW days are numbered ..
Very weak attempt on your part , but the community has become accustomed to such weak posturing . 3/10 .. Good try ..
Have a nice day
I do like some complexity in gaming systems but I have limits and LA exceeded those.
