The game is doing decently for now, but many players are disappointed though after getting to the "end game".

It's confirmed by the Steam achievements...

Look at those for instance :

Those are very easy Tier 2 achievements, yet only 5% players have them !

    Even worse...

This is a T1 achievement, quite early in the game, which is mandatory to continue... yet only 6.7% have it.

Conclude from it what you want.

By the way, I'm still playing and having decent fun.
You linked a picture of Yorn, that's T2?

And 100% adventure tome completion of a continent takes a decent chunk of time to accomplish. 6% is where I'd estimate that number would be sitting, maybe 10% if I had to guess.

Completing the main story gets you between 30 - 40% for the continent.

Aye my bad, Yorn is T2, sorry. For some reason I confused it with Vern.

    Well, look at this then.

    httpsiimgurcomLwR3nWwpng

    Only 15% players are T2 ?
    Very low.

Or maybe just many people stop playing when they hit the first high failure rate when upgrading gear ?
Now that is a much more telling picture and very shocking.

That's the BASE GEAR for level 50, in Vern Castle. That's the BEGINNING of T1! How can that number be so low?

Because it was done over a month ago?  People are casual I would think.

15% though? I did my dailies per day at about 80% rate, skiping days (Thank god for rest bonus) and I'm 1347.

Then again my current hourage is 314 hours. At 7 weeks, that's an average of... 6 hours a day? So maybe I'm not as casual as I thought lol.

I'm "only" at 198 hours and I have all those achievements...
And those 15% are updated real time, they aren't numbers from a month ago.
Aye, I'm aware. It's still a surprisingly low number. With that I'd have guessed, at this point, 50% of players would have done the main story questline to Vern Castle and got their 302 gear. Even now I think I'm lowballing that number lol
One of my friends hates playing alone so he's been struggling and just hit level 40 last night.

I keep encouraging him to get to 50 /302 so he can hang with the rest of us.
    Ah, I see.

It's easy to forget not everyone plays the game the same way or, indeed, at the same pace. Everyone I know is past 1340 at this point and I thought I was being slow, being the lowest among them. Sometimes you just need a different perspective.

I'm the same way, can't imagine other people play as much (or fast) as they say they do, and a bit envious they can find the time to do so.

The nice thing about LA though is I really don't feel like I'm missing out on anything much by not being up there with the faster players, though my friend who isn't to 50 clearly would disagree.

(It's his own fault, he's retired and could have easily blown past me, someone who works a day job. )

Shouldn't mmorpg.com have a weekly news post about its decline?

Shouldn't the usual buzzards be circling the soon to be corpse with clever posts like "tick... tick... tick..." or some such?

Interested observers would like to know why no one is talking about this :)
Lost Ark been out as a typical Korean Diablo cloney game with heavy PTW elements.
Also its not even a real MMO from what I understand. No idea how people fell for any bait into this product

It's free to play isn't it? With no initial investment, people are willing to at least look at it most likely...OF that 1.3M, I would guess 90% spent $10 or less....

You make it sound like they duped people into playing their game. This may come as a surprise to you but a lot of players just play what their friends play or what is popular. They don't make a list and check if the game checks the boxes before they decide to play. People are not so regimented about their hobbies.

I play a lot of games that are not necessarily an MMORPG in the strictest of sense if it is fun. I think that making up your mind based on definitions can lead to missing out good games that can be entertaining.

I got the basic pack and that is way, way less than a subscription can run and I haven't spent anything further and it was definitely worth it.

Lost Ark drop isn't because it's "bad".

It's very good if you're into ARPG's and enjoy repeated, structured content.

Enjoying MMO's does not mean that I'm going to go the long haul with an ARPG.

"Dailies" carries a negative connotation, and LA is literally dailies inside of dailies.

Most of us were only ever going to play through the solo quest, and then tap out halfway or so through the Teir grind.

LA being treated like an MMORPG helped drive it's numbers up, and people finding out it's for the Path of Exile community are the reason it was never going to keep most us.

I want a good, new MMORPG to play long-term; not a MMARPG.

I would argue the P2W factor varies depending on how badly a player wants to rush to the end, or that reaching the absolutely highest level actually matters.

As neither applies to me I don't see it as P2W very much at all.

Agreed. You can play this without even paying a cent and have fun.

But paying to "reaching the absolutely highest level" is the definition of pay to win.

Sure, assuming there is something to "win" by reaching top level.

In the case of LA what is won by reaching the top level?  Besides the fact someone made it to top?

Same way I feel about mountain climbing, silly achievement, certainly not worth risking one's life for.

Well, the same arrogant asshat attitude of those who "paid to win" is present in this game, though. Today, a few minutes ago, I ran into a world boss while questing and some self entitled dipshit said that "if you're under " <insert item level here> " you must go away or you're griefing". I still stayed for the event, since it's a world event, meaning it's open to everyone... the same guy suggested to abuse the report system by mass reporting me to get me banned by the auto-ban system.

    I just answered this though:

Apparently, his request didn't work, I'm still playing, finished the event just fine and went my own way. I still reported him for suggesting to abuse the report system to get someone banned, let's see how this ends ;)

This kind of attitude is what disgusts me of the current MMORPG crowd and encourages me to play only with my close relatives, real life friends and friends I made years ago in older games. Those new self entitled little dipshits are just disgusting me.

And yeah, I got killed twice by the boss... that's for the "LOL" part... along with the fantastic character name of the mass report fanatic ;)

    - if you're under ilvl 1000 you must go away or you're griefing
    * what ilvl are you?
    - 1100
    * if you're under ilvl 1101 you must go away or you're griefing

Yeah, it can kinda be translated to "This event is reserved for my guild and friends, fuck off peasant". Which doesn't really work for me since it's a world event.

Didn't realize this sort of stuff occurred, wondering how or why players with a lower level (how do they even know you are?) would be considered griefing?

Do the open world bosses lower the level of drops based on who participates?

Do players get less drops each as the number of players increases?

Do people actually read Global chat?  I rarely do as it's loaded with not spam so much, at least in the early parts of the game.

What level or region were you in where this occurred.

I commend you for reporting that douche and having the fortitude to give him a politely condescending reply instead of firing back with something which really could have gotten you banned.

All of this just reinforces my opinion that "all gamers suck" these days, though with that character name it was pretty obvious he was going to be a supreme jerk.

I hit 1350 with main 1000 on another alt.  I have a third alt just for dailies.  I have other chars that are still low lvl.  Right now working on getting my pirate ship.  Did the dailies need a few more pirate coins and to woo black fang.  Still have a ton of islands to do and adv tomes just a long grind.   Still enjoying it though

World events bosses have ilvls and people below them won't do any damage.  So it's possible they are referring to that but in an asshat way.  I don't think you get any rewards in that case though.  It is also possible to reset the boss to full health and they may have had a lowbie do that trying to escape death.

I quit two resets ago at 1346 ilvl.  I didn't quit because of the honing or P2W nature of the Argos release.  Although they were both big negatives.  I quit because it got really, really boring.

Chaos dungeons, guardian raids, unas and weekly stuff just got really old especially when you are encouraged to play many alts to feed your main.  I didn't have much fun at all the last week or two of playing, it was just daily chores.  I was so bored doing the daily stuff that I wanted to log off immediately after rather than search out more islands and other horizontal progression.

My opinion is that the game has some serious flaws with its core design that will never work long term in the west for a sizable population.  Although their biggest issue is the lack of bot detection.  They kill the market completely for anyone that wants to farm.  The only players that benefitted the most economically are those that hit the highest content soonest, making whaling even more P2W.

While playing other classes could be fun.  They mostly fall under a similar rotation of cooldown based skills for AOE, stagger, counter and maybe single target.  They didn't feel nearly as diverse as say Marvel Heroes playable heroes.  I assume artillerist and bard were more diverse than most LA classes though.

I'm playing an Artillerist and it's not all that different from my Guardian.  It has two big, booming AOEs, plus a third pulsing AOE as it's primarily killing skills.

Of course it's a matter of what triads get slotted and according to what I've read the Bombard build isn't really viable as anything too stationary will only get someone killed.

I think I posted before in this thread about quitting until a couple of other sub-classes I was interested in were released (summoner and the card one). I think some people feel the same, especially since this is really a game where the endgame encourages you to level alts and right now sorceress is the only one I really like playing on a regular basis.

I will say that it is nice to see that the game knows what its core audience is (for now) similar to how FFXIV wants to be know as a more casual mmorpg with some hardcore elements. So its perfectly find to just not like the game's endgame (even though I think most people who have played through everything once did have a more positive experience verses negative).

As for p2w and this game, I think one thing is really important to remember which is power is only as good as the person who can wield it in this game. If you somehow blitz to 1300+ and dont know boss mechanics, you're kinda worthless. Of course, if you're high GS and know what you're doing that's great too, but this game is a bit less forgiving in terms of fights and honestly seeing people rush past stuff only hurts themselves and others in the end, again, if they dont know how to play.

The problem is that access to content is closed based on ilvl and the most valuable stuff to sell is in that locked content.

It's far from dead but who knows how much of the population is bots.  It could be up to 50% for all we know.

I will probably stop sometimes soon for the same reasons. It's getting very boring and repetitive. I have over 500 hours of fun in New World, and I'll probably go back soon to check out the new stuff and finish the Isabella story line. I'm not even at 250 hours yet in Lost Ark and I'm starting to get really bored. And just the million different currencies in LA could drive one mad.

New World is, despite its flaws, a real MMORPG.
Lost Ark is a Korean pay to win grinder, even if well done and with quite fun combat.
I'll probably get more hours out of Diablo IV than out of LA, just as I had out of Diablo III.

I'm right at 100 hours played, and am fading fast.  I've hit the grind to 460 (and barely made that), now am working on the quests to release the next levels of the game.  I'm getting bored, and will have to start with another alt soon.  But even that experience is boring, as many of the game mechanics are shared between the various characters -- Mokoko seeds, Cards, and the various 1-time / account loot boxes.

The biggest problem that I have with LA is actually the quest system.  You will take a quest, and entirely too often, all you have to do is run back and forth between NPCs.  Some times the travel distance is close; sometimes you need to run to another island (or two).  Movement from place to place isn't exactly a thrill, despite the rather good landscape graphics.  Move, click, and watch a cut scene is the basic game play loop.  That's just not going to keep me interested much longer.

Then add in the countless currencies, and indirect currencies that you can only exchange at specific merchants for specific items.  It's a bit overwhelming for LA to be considered for a 'casual' player, like myself.  Even knowing when to open one of the myriad loot box chest requires significant understanding.  Gaming is my hobby, not a profession.

LA has some good points.  The stories are actually pretty good; other games could do themselves a favor with some of landscape graphics; there is a wide variety of cosmetic costumes and mounts which add some visual flair to the game.  But the run here and watch that play loop is very limited and will soon claim another victim.
