Hi everyone,
This is a little exercise to let us all know what type of player you are.
I would like to use Ashes of Creation platform in a perfect setting that is built in a fully flushed out game, where it has PvE, PvP and the nod system where the players fight for control of land mass where the players build an empire. Their will be leaders, people taking charge of development, Guild masters, workers, builders, gathers, defensive PvP protectors and Offensive PvPers, out taking new lands. Some would simply be happy playing a few hours at night and going with the flow, where others are making a life within the game to be the ultimate ruler of their faction.
I'm asking everyone to be creative using their Imagination to show us what type of player you are.
For your reference here are the classes:
Mage, Summoner, Cleric, Bard, Fighter, Tank, Ranger, and Rogue
Me:
I will be a Rogue explorer where I would stay in somewhat safe areas, but pushing the boundaries of some PvP. I'm not the type that likes to be in charge but more of a follower that likes taking orders...... Through out the years, I've found myself less tolerant of playing games for long sessions at a time, along with being susceptible to seizures. So would be happy with randomly logging in and going with the flow of the present situation.
So what type are you ?

OK, in the spirit of the thread I harken back to DAOC's Minstrel, (Bard) possiblity my all time favorite class / character.
I prefer a jack of all trades role which can use it's skills to well support a group, which the Minny had in spades.
It increased group (and personal) travel speeds by a tremendous factor (50% plus), had a mana restoration song to play while the group rested (remember when that was a thing?)
It was very rogue like, being able to stealth and climb Keep walls creating a mini game with enemy stealthers (who could see me before I saw them) to try and get in a quick gank and hit the gas trying to get away before being knifed to death.
Could do an area mez, 3 second stun, twist (another ancient concept) multiple combat buffs by switching instruments in flight and best of all, I got to stand at the head of the line when running anywhere with everyone /stuck to me.
Which meant when I fell asleep in my recliner (at least that's what I always told everyone) I would sometimes run the group off a cliff or into deep aggro where great hilarity would often ensue. (best if done with friends, pugs not so appreciative)
I really was an A**hole.

I have led guilds but prefer to be an officer in them, if you have enough good officers it is really not that onerous. Never a crafter, though I do gather resources especially if they are needed to make the likes of a guild HQ.
Like you say, I need to know more about the classes, but A rogue is my style, if I'm out questing or gathering, so I can pop out of site quickly..... Maybe stab them in the back a few times:)
I like it. Not sure about the rest of the game though, as I haven't checked it out thoroughly.
Me, I would probably be a Ranger and/or a Mage. I love both "classes" generally.
I also would like a Cleric that's based on the D&D version, with fighting skills that can be enhanced with magical items, and healing and a few offensive abilities.
(I'm not a big fan of classes built around Buffs.)
I'd want to participate in the community aspects, but not in a leadership role.
By nature, I'm more of a solo player. But I do enjoy some community activity too.
I really enjoy getting to know a lot of other Players, who they are, what things they excel at, who makes what and does what, all of that.
I'd like to do some of the things you've mentioned. Gatherer, in particular.
But my main vision of my Characters in an MMORPGs is digging into things in search of discoveries. Learning things about the game world, and hopefully it's mysteries.
Games don't offer much of that, to my disappointment.
Mainly, I don't like to be tied down to a role. I want freedom in my game play to do what I want, not what the game has in mind, by design, for me to do.
Once upon a time....
I like PvE and PvP. Solo play is preferable, which may be why I like pet classes. The company without free will lol.
If a games profession system is in-depth, you'll find me at its deepest depths. Spreadsheets, databases, Discord Bots, and even an API for my guild to use once upon a time. nothing brings me greater satisfaction than gathering/crafting and calculating where I can maximise profit vs time spent. I'm just salivating at the idea right now.
I like being able to play a balanced role. I solo a lot of the time so I like to be able to face tank if I need to, but I like the ability to heal myself and others if the need arises. It brings me a lot of joy to take on aspects of carrying teams, even if I'm not always the best at everything, I like to know that whatever I'm doing at the moment, I'm at least being helpful and useful.
The warrior priest let me do that. I could take aggro and tank if I really had to, or I could heal others. There was a lot of balance to the class. Even thought the whole "cleric/priest/religious" route doesn't really resonate with me, I'm closer to a jack of all trades player. When it comes to how I treat MMOs though, I usually play hard until I burn out, and these days burn out happens faster and faster since most games can't be bothered to think about lasting content prior to launch.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
But .. I'm a PvPvE player at heart. My first MMO was Runescape, where you could go into Wilderness and kill other Players for Full Loot ( or almost ). My hands were shaking when I was in Wilderness, especially when there were lots of other players around. I though every other MMO out there had the same mechanics.
I was disappointed when my second MMO, MU Online, didn't had the same mechanics and when I saw that they didn't drop anything if you killed other Player.
I had a blast in Aion, with their PvPvE settings. I ..felt at home.
As for Roles, with time, I started to..PlayThemAll. Last one was healer ( never ever played one ), until in Shadowlands when I made this lovely Shaman, so now I ..kinda like all 3!

OW PVP doesn't really seem my style anymore.
Heh, I suppose, except that many seem to want to group at endgame so I become more divergent at that point.
Make that three of us.
If I do group stuff, I only play with real life and online friends, very rarely with strangers.
Oh... and I'm an explorer. That's my main type.
