They actually do tests and increase the amount. I get in servers with over 50 people all the time. They were testing with 80 and plan to implement even higher capacities as they optimize the game enough to support it. I personally think if you understand server meshing, realize they are using amazons cloud network(which is SUPERB), you would understand that as you leave areas it connects to new servers. They are optimizing it to try to put players into full servers, so 50+ players in your world at most times will be more than enough imo.

Yeah, I'm in pretty deep on this game. I have a whole stable of ships, but I've given up on it basically. If it ever actually releases as a complete, playable game with minimal bugs it will be a pleasant surprise, but my guess is Chris Roberts is going to milk this endless scope creep until he either dies or get bought out for a billion dollars or something crazy like that.
Pretty wrong statement. If CR goal was to make more money, the best option is to release a finished game asap. Only a fraction of gamer do buy either alpha game or crowdfunded model. SC/SQ42 are both But gathered more than 1.500.000 individual backers in alpha under heavy development.
In 2020, revenues of the PC gaming industry (excluding console and mobile) gathered more than 35 Billions $... just to put in perspective what is the potential of a finished ambitious game(in fact two)
Why are people still defending this? There's absolutely no excuse for not having a product years ago. Aren't you guys too old by now? Don't you have jobs, families, other hobbies, games? Are you getting paid?
That's easy, the defenders have no other games on which to pin their hopes and dreams on, so they double down on this or others perpetually in development.
Playing an incomplete game isn't my idea of fun, but people do all sorts of things I personally don't enjoy, like eating sushi (yuck) so there we are.
LOL..... most SC backers do own NMS, ED, EVE.. adn will get Starfield as well when released. You said it yourself, alpha is not for you. Good nobody force you to pledge for any crowdfunded project.

Of course they own all of those, forever hopping from game to game, never really satisfied with what they are playing, pretty much true of most gamers, not just Star Citizens.
I'm still from the old school, buy one game, play it until I'm "done" with it, be it one month or 5 years, move on to the next, and rarely going back to something from before unless I left some unfinished business behind.
Like I said, other people are strange and different, but I've come to expect and accept them despite their flaws.

I encourage as many interested people as possible to download the client and give it a spin. Form an honest opinion, you can love it, you can hate it, you can just like it, its all good. From the videos I think people will have a good spin, just not sure there will eventually be a good game.
It's because of ignorant misconceptions like these that companies have to develop in secrecy.
A 20 minute demo video of a game still in alpha after 10 years and $400M+ in funding is not proof of anything other than some of you are gullible as hell. You do know how much money that is right? This game is about to surpass the most expensive movie ever made in the history of Hollywood.....in funding.....not expenses. Think about that. It has even raised $50M more than Avengers Endgame cost to make lol. For it to still be in alpha is absurd on all levels. It makes Camelot Unchained look good.
From Forbes 2019:
"Up to a point, Roberts has been transparent about where the money has been going. He released years’ worth of financial statements last December. But he won’t say how much he or other top Cloud Imperium execs have made from the project. His wife and his brother both work in senior positions at the company."
"Last year Cloud Imperium released financials that showed its biggest expense was annual salaries of $30 million. But the documents did not detail how much Roberts and Gardiner have been paid over the years. In September 2018, the Roberts Family Trust, with Gardiner as its trustee, purchased a house for $4.7 million in L.A.’s Pacific Palisades neighborhood. Prior to that, Roberts had been renting. Roberts says he sold his Hollywood house in 2007 because he wanted to experience living near the ocean. He then rented for ten years because he wasn’t sure if he would like it or stay in L.A. long-term."

I think that logic is largely wrong. If you look at the history of most Crowdfunded games... the MAJORITY of players have bought the game before it launches. This is why many of these games struggle at launch.

So, let me see if I have this right, gamers, MMO players in particular, are somehow upset about a video game, that might entertain you for years, perhaps even decades, costing more than a movie that will entertain you for a few hours at best.
Reading this made me realize why we have the problems we have with our current gaming stagnation, where we think a game needs to be made in a year and on a penny budget yet have the audacity to expect some ground breaking genre changing amazing epic shit going on with that.
No, you want your 2 million in 2 years MMO, you will take your Cash Shop P2W laden Anime Art WoW Clone, and like it!

Well I enjoy some non-revolutionary hamster-wheel games with anime art(which I am not fond of). I feel no shame in this.
Should I?
And I actually don't have to wait to be 70+ to be able to play them without server wipes because they are not in alpha anymore and indeed did not take 11 years to reach "alpha 3.17".
I guess we should all just accept that with Star Citizen, words like "alpha", "beta", "release", "schedule", and "cost" have no real meanings. And we should just stop expecting them to.
There is no release schedule, no estimate of final costs. You can pay to play whatever they have at the moment. That's it. SC will just keep taking in money, and keep working on it until the money runs out. It will never be "done".
Instanced world, 50 people per zone Maximum. That's less than the original multiplayer in Freelancer from 2003.
Look forward to flying the starter ship, while someone else is flying a $10k pre-order bonus ship LUL.
Absolutely abysmal performance. On a 3090 ti you can barely reach 70fps.
This game would be better in every single way if they just used unity or unreal engine. Why bother developing your own engine when it's complete trash and can't handle more than 50 players per instance at 70fps with a 3090 ti...

Which games?
I can only think of about 4 outside of SC, all of which havent launched or reached a launchable state (closed beta) that have been called scams at some point: Pantheon, Ashes of Creation, Chronicles of Eliria (or whatever remains of it), and Camelot Unchained.
It is becoming a little hard for me to believe that they used $400M and still haven't had something in a releasable state yet. If anything, it just shows the lack of priorities and makes me quite concerned for post-launch content.
After playing the game and pvping extensively, I really like the financial model for sc. I have never liked subscriptions. I was more of a "Lifetime Subscription" kind of person. People who call the game pay 2 win, are clueless. Some of the cheapest ships are the best pvp ships. The larger expensive ships are usually used for PvE and making currency faster. The larger ships can be very hard for a small ship to kill but the large ship will also have a very hard time hitting the smaller less expensive ships.
SC's financial model is great because you can get in cheap, if you don't have excess funds, and still be competitive. Companies have to make money somehow, if a large ship that someone has fantasized about flying with the friends is the way, I am happy that option exists to fund a game with such large scope. I am much more likely to buy more ships rather than pay 15 USD a month for a subscription. Buy my ship and get expansions forever.

I see how you have conveniently failed to mention Crowfall.
Which is pretty much is my point in a nutshell, how the doom boi's seem to magically forget all the games that launch they were sure was going to fail.
