What would be an introductory game to JRPGs. I give you Dragon Quest XI.

I know people love Final Fantasy and I love it to bits too but there are other wonderful JRPGs out there. JRPG means quite simply Japanese Role-playing games hyphenated or not.

I usually gush over my Atelier games which I wrote a thread about an age ago which I realise isn't that easy to get into considering the convoluted crafting and the very linear quest areas although the combat went more action-oriented in Ryza which I was not pleased about but in the end grew used to. I actually prefer turn based Atelier games as it gives far more strategic options imo and also makes you use more crafted items and variety of them. However I recently went back and looked at a game I still have not finished, Dragon Quest XI. That is the other thing about JRPGs you can be 100 hours in and still not quite at the end yet.

The reason I am writing this is to introduce you to this gem called Dragon Quest XI. I just love the beauty of the cities in this game and the characters are wonderful. I saw this youtube review which was done by a fan. He wrote such a wonderful review I simply cannot top it. He was not reviewing it he was writing a love letter as someone in the comments said.

If you have never played a JRPG consider picking this up. It's on Steam.

In my mind, there isn't a better example of classic JRPG game play with a modern coat of paint.

Yes this is an amazing game, in a pretty great series of games. If they get the definitive edition the can flip between in 2D mode if they like (the old look of JRPG's) or the 3D standard mode.

You reading this Nintendo??!! Now bring DQ10 over here you bastards!

The DQ series is amazing btw, we go way back me and her, waaaaaay back. She might not have any new tricks, but her old tricks are the best there are.

'the only way he could nail it any better is if he used a cross.'

    Kyleran on yours sincerely

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'

Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

You can't beat Valkyria Chronicles, if you don't need an introduction play the best.

OMG, yes it is criminal that DQ10  hasn't been brought here . I mean even PSO2 is here why not DQ10.

Unlike PSO2 which had a fan translation so you could play on the Japanese servers you cannot with DQ10. Even if you got an account and everything it is all in Japanese. :'(

DQ10 is like seriously old school MMORPG.

I know its not the same but they are working on a  / offline version of DragonQuest 10 which *should* be out in Japan maybe by this fall 2022. If they don't figure its worth it to bring it west themselves maybe some fan will translate as has happened in the past so you can experience the story.

That's been the only way to experience some of the DragonQuest titles in the past.

JRPGs aren't one genre. So I have recommendations for each:

Vanilla Turn-based JRPG: Dragon Quest 11

    Social Sim: Persona 5 Royal

Action JRPG: Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana

Strategy RPG: Fire Emblem: Awakening, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (cost prohibitive, but ideal), Triangle Strategy

Definitely Dragon quest 11. DQ10 was an MMOish and I think it would do well here in the West.
