She doesn't say anything about spells. Unless you are referring to the picture. Just looks like the character is highlighted.

There are many abilities in the game that couldn't function as other than magic.
I have some where my hands wave about and others are healed despite they are not close enough for me to touch. Further the ability require no supplies such as bandages. Some of them can be supplemented by components but none require them for the ability to be used.
It may not be strong magic but it is certainly not mundane healing.
Fixing now. Thanks for pointing it out!
This game is meant for people who enjoy meaningful groups, relationships with other players and a great community.
When I get a group for a dungeon, everyone is paying close attention, very coordinated, mindful of our surroundings and is very percise.
IMO I am so sick of the Korean games with 5 currencies, cash shops and fast paced crazy combat and no one cares about grouping or talking.
When I am out on my acitivites, people are quick to lend a helping hand, are very friendly and willing to group. Exactly what is missing form todays so called MMO.
The dungeons are very deep and involved and enjoyable.
If you want an old school DnD based game to enjoy grouping with a great community, this is it!
I wish the devs tremendous success, this is a great game!
What I really want to know in your final review is whether there's enough here for a monthly subscription. It doesn't need to do WoW numbers, but it would take several thousand subs at the minimum to keep the lights on and the devs fed, right?
I don't know if that has changed. I do think that Visionary Realms does have more people working on there game.
P.S. Reason I mentioned Pantheon is they are similiar. Both games are sub to play (if freaking Pantheon ever launches anyway) and both are going for the old school approach in needing a group
Unfortunately, asking for 50k concurrent might be asking for a lot in this day-in-age. Especially for something so niche.
Regarding Slow combat:
Yes in the beginning it seems slow. BUT Once you get a few levels, start grouping, the fights are just PERFECT. The combat is slow enough to be relaxing and still exciting at the same time. The fights are just the right speed to allow for coordinated and organized fighting, mob control and people can actually play their roles as they are intended.
If the combat were FAST paced, the grouping would be to chaotic, it is perfect how it is.
This is meant for organized grouping, organized and strategic pulling and fighting.
Explain pls. I'm interested but all I can find is criticism. Any good crafting? How about combat, does it make sense or is it senseless button mashing?
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
As Arkangel32 put it (Couldn't say it better myself):

Yikes! We were talking about too much hand holding the other day, but not having a quest journal would be going too far!
Embers seems to be a marmite game, you either love it or you hate it. What I am hoping is given sufficient time to develop the game after EA (or launch if you want to call it that) it may be something I want to hop into. My concern is that I keep saying that these days, the only MMO that came out polished and ready to play in the last three years has been LA because it was launched in the far east years earlier. With LA, I soon twigged that would be another BDO and not for me. Am I being too fussy, maybe I am?
Anyway, Embers seems to have the heart of a MMO I would love, so fingers crossed for the future.
Levels 5-15 are the best this game has to offer. By level 25 your enjoyment is going to tank. 99.9% of the people will never reach 35. Max level is 50.
The most hardcore players right now are around 22-25. It took them about 4-7 days depending on if they were Alpha or not. Most of those people are duo/solo because not enough people are high level like that to group with. If you group exclusively you probably can do it a little faster.
If you do a /who in the game the average person is around level 13. So its taking casuals to get 13 levels in 4-5 days of Real-time play (not in-game play).
So the real question is, how casual are you? Is it worth it to have some fun to around level 20ish to 25 paying the box price? If hardcore players take 7 days, how long will that same content last you? Are you cool with hitting level 25 then remaking a new character and doing it all again.
That's the content, newbies saying they love this game are just like what people said in beta including myself. Until you hit those break points then it turned.
If you plan to jump on this, I suggest you do it really fast. Because when the sub requirement starts for people, this game is going to lose a ton of people. Additionally when people hit 25-35 they will be leaving in droves. So right now is when its new, shiny and fun.
Is that all? Does the game offer anything else except slow strategic combat? Like exploration? Crafting? Trading? Harvesting`? Housing? Common more details pls:)
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
Crafting yes, there are some recipes and stuff. Not the best crafting system but not the worse either, a little below average I would say.
Harvesting - Yep has it, again not amazing like New World, but not the worse, little below average.
Housing - None
Economy - Not really existing, its a player to player economy, mostly trading recipes. No AH and no player vendors.
Exploration - A little, no real incentives to explore, but you can if you want to. Mainly the exploring comes down to groups exploring dungeons to find rare mobs and just to kill stuff, occasional chests, usually with just junk or recipes.
Strategic combat - This is a tough one to describe, its not like Wow/ESO where there are alot of mob mechanics. But there is some tactics in pulling without getting tons of mobs on you, also there is the use of crowd control, and people usually want to kill 1 mob first. Usually as a dps you are either behind or on the side and just sit there with occasional hits and auto-attacks. The skills/abilities of this game are not good compared to most games.
The main selling point of this game is group combat and social chatting. This is where the game shines. It pulls people together because mobs take awhile to solo and its next to impossible to solo dungeons or large groups of mobs.
Dungeons and Mob dense areas feel dangerous, so group combat feels dangerous to 1st time players and the combat is very slow so its not twitchy at all. So average casual players can feel useful in a group.
Later after people learn to kite, danger goes away, it starts to feel slow and tedious.
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
If you are looking for a typical 1000hr MMO, yeah this is not going to be that for sure.
Crafting is great! Everything you craft you can only sell to players, not npcs.
Gathering while hunting or questing is super relaxing and enjoyable.
Housing, no.
The map is great, it does not show your icon or others. It forces you to learn map markers and allows the player to actually 'think' on how to get where they want to go.
Quests: You actually have to read the quests WOW think of that! Yeah, you need to read the details, the quests do not tell you exactly where to go. You have to use your intellect, based on the clues they give, and the markers on the map to figure out where the quest might be. THIS FORCES EXPLORATION.
Hidden quests: There are quest givers in the zones, you will never know about them unless you choose to explore.
Most people who post are just negative people, so that is to be expected. When someone who has played the game and supports, and enjoys it posts positive feedback, they knock it with sarcasm and childish comments, no surprise.
Try Embers if you are tired of the wham bam fast paced, solo mmorpg games.
The slow combat: When were in the Central Veins dungeon, pulling very dangerous pulls, if the combat were faster it would be impossible to manage 5 high level mobs. With the combat a little slower, it is still very exciting, it allows for people to compensate for very difficult situations and scenarios. This combat gives you time to react and think and coordinate.
To each his own.
