No chance that AoC goes from Alpha 1 to launch this year, but I'm sure we will get some more "limited time" sales!

Throne and Liberty I am interested in and believe it has a good chance to release this year, as they just said it's targeted for 1st half of 23. Need to see more actual gameplay later today.

Palia is an interesting concept but I haven't seen many details on it. I suspect that means it will not be a 23 launch, but we will see.

Ashes of Creation hahahahaha, they said Dec, 2018 and now just delaying it with other things. It became like star citizen just promise to do this and that while delaying release of game.

Better off hoping AoC comes out within 5 years.....Palia feels like a hard no that it'll come out this year as well since I think they're still just holding private testing.

I would play Mad World but I read that the cash shop is horrid.

I could see Alpha 2 in the first quarter of the year and as long as it goes well then I think we could get the betas in the second half of the year. That is a big if, though.

Palia has had multiple closed alphas with NDA this year. I could see it going into early access before the end of 2023. And let's face it, whether we like EA or not (looking around to see if Scot is listening in), EA is pretty much a launch these days.

I think we will see Palia go from closed alphas to open beta to early access release relatively quickly. And then I could see it sit in EA for a couple of years or more.

I always stick to the concept that if there is no wiping, it's launched.  For better or worse.  Call it whatever they want.

I'm wondering exactly how many of these 7 predictions will be true (especially the 'coming in 2023' part) this time next year.  Blue Protocol almost certainly, maybe Throne and Liberty.  Beyond that, I'm guessing the record will be 2-5.

I also feel the same way about cash shops. Once there is anything more than a founder's pack for sale, the game is launched. And the same thing goes for any paid expansion packs or dlc. How can you say your game isn't finished if you are adding paid content?

The only one on that list I have any interest in is Ark 2 but the game I am definitely going to be playing isn't even listed and that's Skull and Bones.

Yeah i think 2023 is going to be the year for big single player games instead of the mmorpg genre, like Starfield, Baldurs Gate 3, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Hogwarts. - Literally just naming a few that are just on my wishlist, there are so many other big releases this year for single player games.

Perhaps 2024 will be a better year for the mmo genre.

I hope that BG 3 flops because Larian does NOT deserve those accolades. But it is going to sell like hotcakes. ...oh well. My turbulent relations with DOS aside...

As for MMOs...Lineage:Eternal sounds interesting, it all depends on how they pull it off.

odd that Camelot Unchained and Star Citizen didn't make the list... maybe 2024.

The genre is doing fine. Though there is little in the way of new MMORPGs, at least in the western market, there are many stable existing ones. Some of them are quite popular with several others still attracting a fair number of players.

What hasn't been doing well is the effort to expand the MMORPGs on offer, though it seems New World may be turning around from it's earlier misfortunes.

The list here didn't inspire much confidence on the health of the genre, at least not in terms of having much on the horizon that I am interested in playing next year.

For now New World will be carrying me into the start of 2023, will be interesting to see what else transpires throughout the year.

Interested in Throne and Liberty which is also developed in an unreal engine 5.

I want to see more examples of what this engine can do, and hope the benefits of game development benefit from this engine which allows for devs to focus more on game development and world building, rather than building basics, and sorting out logistics.

Also CD project Red is going all in with Unreal engine as well, and might have online elements.

Good to see that years of development in the gaming industry is allowing for better efficiencies which are shared for the benefit of the consumer.

Now all you have to do is get the staff to agree to do reviews when the cash shop sign goes up. I do realise that would mean MMORPG.com stands out from the herd when it comes to reviews, but that was the standard the site used to try hold to. Having a follow up review a year or two down the line would be quite reasonable as well, say when it went to EA and possibly again when it is released as properly launched.

I could even see the reason for not giving it a score in that first review, but I think by early access they need to be scored, that score might change for actual launch of course. I have not mentioned all the extra time this would take you guys, I can't offer a solution to that, it could treble the work done on reviews.

    Wtf ?

Strange motive to hold a grudge in a genre thats so empty of really good titles.

I surely hope BG3 rocks though I would be really surprised if the writing would be actually on the level of BG2.
