There have been obvious signs that Fntastic has mismanaged one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. It's time for Steven to switch on the WTF machine, and get into how The Day Before completely eradicated their fanbase.

I'm trying to figure out how so many people got their hopes up given the track record of this development team. It was obvious that even if something was released (which will probably be the case), that it would be garbage just like their other stuff......People are too desperate right now....

The whole not paying is a sore spot. They shouldn't need volunteers for anything because they are being backed by a publisher that's making bucket loads of money. I mean the two main dev's sure due hype up there company and how great and amazing it is to work there but yet they need to get volunteers to do work? Sounds shady to me.

it probably will be deliver as nvidia is on it, but it gonna be a trash game nothing like they have shown, so don't expect anything.

How the hell did Nvidia get involved with this? There has to be a game or they wouldn't partner with Fntastic, right? Someone had to see enough gameplay to ensure at least a decent quality or you'd think Nvidia would walk away. Maybe just being the most wishlisted on Steam was enough?

    Thanks for the article Steven!

It's been a long time since MMORPG.com has GOOD articles like this, taking a real stand. It feels like advertising or how game companies will view things has been a motivator. I dont see Fntastic being a big player from here on out, which may be why y'all took the stand, but best piece I've read here in a an awful long time. Cheers man!

I am 100% sure, after this 3rd delay for completely BS reasons (copyright does not spring up 6 weeks before launch and if it does its almost worse because you were surprised), this game will never launch. The next announcement will be that they could not resolve the copyright claims so they have to completely rethink and rebrand the game and its postponed indefinitely. By that point nobody will care and it will only be discussed in context of "You remember that one game....what's was its name?".

It's trademark not copyright that's the issue. I only bring this up to say it would be a much bigger deal if it were copyright as that would mean they had lifted someone else's code or assets. That's a harder thing to fix. Trademark is simply coming up with a new name, making sure you new name is available, and registering said new name. You can do this on LegalZoom.com in an few hours. The challenge, then, is rebranding everything, but still that all could be done in 2-3 weeks I would think. No reason to delay to November 2023 over trademark disputes unless you're going to go to court and sue someone over the name which I rather doubt they have the financial stomach to take on that battle with attorney fees costing $500 per hour.

I honestly can't understand how reputable "journalistic" sites as well as the knuckleheaded gamers get fooled time and again on these so called "next-gen" games that spout unrealistic promises, that their game is going to be the next new shiny game.

We as paying gaming hobbyists as well as gaming sites need to temper our expectations and have the "I'll believe it when I see it" mentality.

It's been about 10+ years since I bought a game on the day it was released. I usually wait 6 months to a year before purchase.

Has MMOWTF been copyrighted yet, because it should be? Its funny because we usually have many posters who will come on to say why MMO"whatever" is not a good anacronym or not appropriate for this or that MMO.

Somehow I don't think that is going to happen here. :)

Im one of those who did not follow this game, but i did wishlist it on steam.

Red flags everywhere, thank you for this article. I must be a fool, i also bought warhammer darktide, when it launched, it still doesnt even have the promised core features, like crafting.

    Red flags everywhere nowadays. wow.

I try to never follow games because I have heard stories like this from before they invented the internet. It is crushingly disappointing and would make me more of a cynic about the gaming industry than I am.

Creating a gameplay slice in Unreal 5 that looks amazing is pretty easy as it has a massive amount of premade textures and models you can license and use in your games. It’s when you need to actually start programming gameplay systems that the real work starts.
So what they have is most likely a host of generic Unreal 5 environments, 2-3 character models with guns that makes noise when you shoot, and a couple of zombie models that dies if you shoot at them.
You can make a good trailer from that - but not much else

As with many others I mistakenly put this game on my wishlist in a quick pass through my Discovery Queue during a seasonal card quest once, so I feel partially responsible for the artificial hype of this game on Steam. :D

This game is one solid piece of vaporware...The Delay Before. Well, maybe Delay should be plural. I followed this game for while in the early days of it's announcement and then began to question it not too long after. It was clear for awhile that there was no way it was going to release in March. And the Fntastic is not doing a fantastic job at smokescreening it. They are trying to bullsh*t everyone while everyone is well aware they are bullsh*tting. I'll be surprised if this game ever comes out.

Are we still talking about Chronicles of Elyria? Oh wait... my mistake.

After the latest delay, I genuinely got CoE vibes from the announcement.
