I think it is because when the first kick starter MMOs were announced many of us saw that as leading to a renaissance of MMORPG's in the gaming landscape. It has not worked out that way and that bad feeling spills over. If AoC is a success, all will be forgiven, the detractors will happily eat their words and many will jump in. Until then this sort of reaction is to be expected.

I think that logic has more holes than swiss cheese. Are you going to tell people they can't complain about lies, fraud, pyramid schemes, mismanagement, ineptitude, and scams unless they put money in? 

People don't need to put money into something to point out obvious problems.

I think that logic has more holes than swiss cheese. Are you going to tell people they can't complain about lies, fraud, pyramid schemes, mismanagement, ineptitude, and scams unless they put money in?

I was just pointing out that the person you responded to with the original logic of "not invested, can't complain" was completely flawed.

Oh right, I can see why they are more passionate though, both in defending and accusing a CF game. I will put weight on the comments of someone who has played the alpha, but putting money in is irrelevant.

300 million is a bit exaggerated in my opinion ... but yes, to reach a similar scale as an established theme park MMORPG like WoW or FF14, I think you have to spend almost 100 million. But only if you want to make a theme park MMORPG. Pure PvP MMORPGs aren't as expensive and aren't as dependent on regular content updates.

Do you have an actual source for that? Do you know how much was spent? How much was raised from the backers? If you do have that info please share. Because when I asked Stephen for that information on these forums he never answered.  Heck, I don’t think he ever came back.

If you don’t have that info then please stop spreading the statement.

Just noting that you did not respond to this.  We had a similar discussion last year where you dropped in, made that claim, and when questioned, never responded.

So if you do have some source for this can you please link it?  Otherwise people stop spreading it.
