If you're inclined to upgrade your computer's memory or storage, then now is a good time to do so. Without looking very hard, you can find 64 GB of 3600 MHz DDR4 memory on New Egg for $110, or a 4 TB PCI Express 3.0 x4 SSD for $200. Smaller capacities are much cheaper, as you'd expect.
Hynix is bleeding money as a result. They just reported that they lost nearly $2 billion in the quarter completed on revenue of less than $4 billion. (They reported numbers in Korean Won, of course, but I've converted it for you.) For the most recently completed quarter, Micron's financial statements were even worse, losing more than $2.3 billion on revenue of less than $3.7 billion.
That sort of losses leads memory fabs to make dramatic changes to shore up the prices. If it lasts long enough, it can also lead to bankruptcy. The last extended period of cheap memory drove Elpida out of business, reducing the number of major DRAM manufacturers from four to three.
