I wanted to play HC but I knew this would be a problem. Can't even explain how many times I've died due to lag or server instability, which is pretty common. It's not just the launch day servers either, I hate the idea that my local network could have a hiccup or my ISP could be in charge of all the hours of hard work I put into my character.
HC also doesn't let me go for broke with challenges just to see if I could pass them. Capstone dungeon at 40? Why not? If I was a HC character I would probably never take on any real challenges.
This is why I hate Hardcore + Online Only. Hardcore is supposed to be a challenge to your playing, building etc skills. Well ... how in the hell is it a challenge of any sorts if you can lose it to a lag spike?
FUCK ALWAYS ONLINE!
It's an mmo-alike, or online multiplayer game. You don't say that about other always online multiplayer games do you? Or maybe you do, but just pointing out that always being online is a core component of the GaaS games this site specializes in. It just seems like an odd sentiment on this site.
Now, if you said the same thing about The Witcher 3 or Hogwarts Legacy or Skyrim, then I would agree because those are single player deals. But for an online game, that just doesn't make sense.
To be fair, most other always online game's aren't utilizing a hardcore mode. The most you usually lose is time.
There's a reason elements like losing your gear to death has become such a niche feature to MMO's even (which is reflected in D4, as your gear doesn't drop on death).
You never experienced the near death HC feeling? Teaches you how to properly react under fire. And is overall quite addicting.
Of course, Hardcore + Always Online can FUCK OFF. That's just such a bad combination. Bad romance some would say.
This is why I like roguelike games, but not in the context of games where you're expected to spend hundreds of hours building a character and you get nothing for losing it.
I'm no Blizzard apologist or defender but are you seriously taking a company to task for marketing and promoting their product to increase sales? Whether you hate social media or not it's an effective way to advertise in most cases. There are a million reasons to hate on the current Blizzard or Activision. Just advertising a product shouldn't be one of them.
Sorry?
I'm a bit surprised by that statement really, but... sorry?
I don't think you really need to know where i am coming from and about how i feel, just... i mean, ignore my posts?
You posted it for the world to see and I have every right to respond to it the way I want to within the rules of the forums. You have a right to your opinion, no matter how baseless I find it, and I have a right to mine. I'm not going to ignore something I find laughable posted by someone else here just because they might not like a negative response to their opinion. The funny thing you ranting against Blizzard for advertising is basically the same thing you're doing, getting your word and opinion out in this case in opposition, however they just have the money to do it on a much larger scale.
I've played and lost many hardcore characters. I've just learned over the years never to play a hardcore character online. Only play them on offline games like Grim Dawn or whatever. I believe in my hardware, I will never believe enough in the infrastructure of everything the company does and doesn't have control over to waste 100's of hours on a character that can go poof on a server/internet hiccup.

Fully agreed. It's just difficult to make the transition. What can I say? I'm a creature of habits.
In other news, 100s more died today to Blizzard's latest server problem that has been going on for about 2 hours now with no end in sight. Login queues are currently in the thousands of minutes

Yeeeep, i came into this expecting server issues once early access was over; (which went surprisingly smooth) - i was half-expecting early access to have these types of issues, but for the large part it was mostly random DC's from my experience.
I'm sure they have people working on this, but i'm still annoyed at the audacity upper-management had thinking a Race-to-100 competition with Hardcore characters on the line would be a great idea right at launch - the period in which the most issues tend to occur.
I don't know, maybe management assumed the race would be all but called by the time early access was over; or maybe their hubris made them believe they could handle any situation; heck.. they may have even thought that not that many would play.

Or maybe they just don't care and do this to drum up excitement or interest?

So no HC for me anytime soon.
