Never played the original. Just acquired it for $5 on my PS5. It'll go fairly high priority up the backlog and hopefully I'll like it enough to have the sequel on my radar.

It's a great game. Sort of a weird world as the game was apparently rushed out the door so there isn't a lot in the world but exploration is fun.
I especially love the ability to climb on monsters. I was showing a friend the game and not fully paying attention and a Hydra swallowed my character and my pawns had to save me.
The first time a Harpy lifted me in the air to drop me from a height was the moment I fell in love with the game.
Can't wait for this sequel.

One change I hope they make is the vocation system. It is set up where you can swap vocations, but the attribute bonuses are cumulative and permanent which means you actually harm your character if you swap vocations too much or if you don't level certain vocations for the bonuses, which undermines the whole system I feel.
So maybe they will make the vocation system more flexible this time around.
This looks good and I'm excited for release. If 3 pawns can be out at once, that is going to be brilliant.
There is a huge hole in the market for party based third-person action RGPs. I'm glad this is getting made.
The first one had it so you had your "main" pawn, one you designed in both look and abilities and then you "rented" the pawns of other players. It was a great system and was very cool to see how other people designed their pawns in gear, look and abilities.
My only issue was they sometimes talked too much. Part of that is for the player's benefit as what they said could aid the player. But sometimes my attitude was "yes I get it!"

Agreed. The chat from Pawns could be hilarious and annoying.
The preview video in the article seemed to indicate we would have a primary Pawn and then possibly 2 more. Hiring different Pawns is a neat feature in the first game. It gives a little dynamic spark to the play.
Did it seem like we could have 3 Pawns in addition to The Arisen?
Some of the towns in the first game were really cool too. It felt kind of like an MMO almost.

It just seemed like it was the same amount as the previous game. You had "your" pawn and then two more for a party of four.

Was kind of hoping they would integrate the co-op play from Dragon's Dogma Online, but alas just single player. Does seem they yoinked the class that uses the double ended blades from it though.

If they did that then we would get an article about 5 things DD2 didn't need and everyone complaining about it being online.
I wouldn't have minded low concurrency shared-world multiplayer online version. DD:DA seems to be built with that in mind and after learning of DD Online I thought for sure this next version would be something like Secret World Legends or Fallout 76.
The Pawn system seems to be their take on community interaction.
Yeah all I would want is small scale co-op. Take the four player squads from Online and remove the "mmo" lobby-city element. Let players replace pawns when joining their friends world type deal.
Co-op ain't that hard of a concept, yet damned if most studios wanna deliver that.
Original DD required online already any ways to do the community interaction through pawns bit any ways. You could play it offline, but then you had just the roster of default pawns.
And really doesn't stop anyone from doing "5 things" articles, online or no.
Well, I saw some magic archer gameplay at the end of that video. Sold!

I hope they can improve a lot of the flaws that the first game had.

Wow, I see it there. Way off on the right. Who designed this interface?
