Does anyone see anything wrong with today's 'popular games' ranking?

10 points to your house of choice for the first one who spots what the problem (website bug?) is.

Like seriously, how is that even possible?  The game's been shut down for years.

Was there a bunch of chinese adbots flooding the MXM game section this morning or something?

If a game that hasnt been online for a while is still top ranking, that might be more related to how crap our choices are currently xD

I think you are looking at a list on a website that hasn't been updated for about 5 or so 6 years.

Why would anyone care about that list or even look at it?

TIL people read the popular game rankings. I just look for the latest few news articles to see if anything catches my eye.

edit: Nice shopping the anime girl in pointing to mxm though. Hehe, nice job.

No.  No one sees anything wrong with the "popular games" list because no one notices the list at all.

I know some people on here are saying "no one pays attention to that any way," but it just makes the site look poor as a whole by not addressing it. Also keep in mind that mxm has been in that top list for just a month-ish (according to the tabs), so it could be as OP is saying with a serious bot issue. For people who've been here for years, that might not sway, but to get new traffic, its definitely a turn off. Less traffic means more ads (again not an issue for some with work arounds), but just feeds into the 'poor' aspect of the site, which will seep in other things like article coverage and quality, more 'non-sponsored' (but obviously sponsored) articles, etc.

This is a screencap of mmorpg's front page i took just now, i guess what i am wondering, is why is it even trending?  Why is the number even going up?  It was at 200-300 this morning, now it's at 1.1k?  Am i just misunderstanding how mmorpg tracks game trends or ....

The reason i am even making a fuss over this because seeing it pop up in today's popular game list made me think Master X Master was coming back or something.  xD

It's just really odd to see a game that hasn't had any activity in it's game hub on this website all of a sudden showup in the list; considering the game is shutdown.

Does mmorpg track how much web traffic visits certain game hubs?  If so maybe someone was looking up master x master on this website a lot?  I'm just trying to make sense of this system i guess.   :)

What comes to mind for me is that there have been a lot of articles about "magic to master" lately. But that game isn't on the game list afaik.

    So maybe it's just misidentification?

It seems more likely to be what you eluded to earlier and what I touched on earlier, which is bots. I've noticed in the past that a lot of advertising posts and bot spam usually goes into thread that are years old. Back in the day this site would also go a few days of having 10s of bot posts back to back in a single thread. Chances are that this site uses some kind of algorithm or something to come back posts like that when they happen in succession from a single account but it might still affect other counters (like trending tab) even if they are deleted. Again, just my opinion.

If a game that hasn't been online for a while still maintains a top ranking, it might be an indication of the current poor options rather than a testament to its own quality. It's a humorous reflection on our choices in the gaming world.
