Simple economics: if Gamepass was hurting developers, developers wouldn't be using it.

corollary: if publishers and studios could make better money ignoring it, they would.

We've heard a few salty comments from Bethesda and a few others who have said it hurt their sales. Maybe the really hurtful truth is those games weren't going to sell well regardless.

The market is over-saturated and that's a factor in an economy squeezing middle and lower class consumers. There is a cultural and technical evolution to how we consume entertainment.

Yes, with books and e-publishers it does not quite hold as analogy, which is why I see it as muddied. Game passes could accelerate the monetarization though, that said when crypto comes in we are going to see cash shops with rosy nostalgia.
I was thinking game pass might actually curb micro transactions and season passes and merge them into a single service.

Like having different levels of game pass that get you bonuses in different games, instead of multiple season passes for individual games.

With Ubisoft Pass Gold you get a bonuses across all Ubisoft games, or something like that.

I am not sure whether that would be better or worse than what we have now.
My guess would be both good and bad; good economically for players, but bad as it would straightjacket games, stopping them tailoring MT's to their game. As MT's effect gameplay that means games would become more similar in gameplay.

I doubt you can put that all down to their games being sub par, a shift like this must have fall out (apologies :) ). My concern is partially the monopoly being created, but more about the effect on AAA.

I should point out I am not against the idea of a Pass, like I was F2P from the beginning. It is just that it may bite gaming in arse down the line.

Thinking about how some players use it to check out games may actually be of use to me, but the issues I have had so far with games that did not live up to my expectations have all been indie. So for now I will shelve the idea, I have a Xbox GP card in fact (came with a purchase), just never used it yet.
