1st time in many years where I'll be playing a game that isn't an mmorpg. In fact, I'm looking forward to it because today's players are simply not as fun to play along side as they used to be. Times have changed, and people have socially regressed. I'll likely explore single and small coop games again.
You're absolutely correct, and that's a friendly way of putting it for sure.

The cry babies... I mean gamers have changed.
I do wonder how long it will take before the gaming industry has it's arm bent to insure every MO is a safe space, likewise for RL team sports. No contact, no PvP, etc.

In my opinion it has nothing to do with safe spaces or anything like that. It has more to do with keyboard warriors who rather stand there and watch you die than lend a helping hand. Its people who dominate chat and attack anyone who asks a question. its people who enjoy brining religion and politics into a zone chat just to piss people off. Its people who grow bored with the game so their enjoyment is harassing other players through cheats and exploits.
You know what? I have to deal with that kind of BS daily. Gaming is my escape and my enjoyment. And yes the gamers have changed. Back in the days of DAOC and EQ, gaming was a community. We formed relationships and spent time together. We had get togethers. My WOW guild had a community gathering back in 2008. We mourned deaths at a gathering in game. Now your lucky if people even chat anymore much less form friendships or relationships. But we reap what we sow. People are now a means to an end in a MMO and its sad.
Early Ryzom (2005-6) had the best community I've ever seen. People would frequently announce themselves when they entered a zone, and you could ask for a rez almost anywhere and complete strangers would come to help you.
Treks were orgranized to let the new players travel and aquire the portal locations. Senior players would orgranize them and guide them. Just for fun and for socializing.
Any kind of profanity would quickly bring complaints from all corners.
Once the MMO's were dumbed down enough, the Mortal Kombat Kiddies (tm) started playing and ruined the social aspect forever.
My only disappointment was Larian chose not to include rolling for attributes. I don't care about all the other distracting features, but I absolutely never have liked the point buy method. I'm still playing the game, but was disappointed about this one aspect.
(My son speaking to his Japanese Grandmother) " Sorry Obaba, I don't speak Japanese, I only speak human."
Hard pass for me. Don't have time for every random encounter taking 10 minutes. Y'all have fun fucking the bear. Maybe next expansion they'll add sheep fucking for your beastiality fetish.
I am impressed so far. Even if I never liked DnD and its stupid D20 system which is way too unreliable (give me 3d6 instead for more predictable results).
I love the RPG side of the game where you are actually playing a role. That has been a while.
I am unimpressed by the character creator, and did not find the key to go back to the class choice screen from the customization one. That was fairly annoying.
I still have other interface concerns but maybe it is just me and the fact I didn't check yet the controls expecting the expectable. But all of those are really minor critics.
The whole game is indeed the promise of a great multi-layered adventure. At least I love the start.
Tried to play. Character creation is beyond stupid. So much so I quit before getting to the game. EA, I could actually create a character. Now, it's like random vs random, X random TRY to make your Dude, random VxVxV/We put money into this??
I sure didn't care for it, in EA, even, but now........ my God....
Thought it was fairly straight forward. However I did make the mistake of just "progressing" and totally missed messing with stats and heritage so had to start again right after the game began.
I have this game since early access and sorely disappointed in this rushed release!
There are so many game breaking bugs still in this game, since Early Access that still haven't been fixed!
All this, because they are scared for Starfield? It boggles my mind!
I wouldn't be surprised in how bugged Act 2 and 3 will be, if all those game breaking bugs in Act 1 are still unfixed! You can bet Act 2 and 3 will be horrendous.

What are you dealing with atm? (if it's the client crash bug, limit the fps cap to 60, they know about a good handful of major bugs and this is one of them, so until they fix the fps bug, limit the fps to 60.)
Also try switching between DirectX api or Vulkan api mode, unless you just want to wait until the hotfixes come in. Sadly this is a completely different game client versus the EA client, so old bugs are going to pop up here and there, and it'll probably be a hot minute before they are ironed out.

I agree but it takes two to tango, how much was this players changing (DAOC was my third MMO) and how much was it the games changing? MMORPGs have become more shallow games, catering to casuals and giving players few reasons to stay online long, form a guild, or interact with other players in any way.
Now I know what the studios would say, they would say these changes came from player demand but that's only a half truth. Some did like grouping to solo, but they did not get players telling them to do away player housing, nuanced crafting and so on. So it took two to tango, it was and is a complex interplay.
When I mentioned safe spaces I am of course thinking of recent developments, the term did not exist when WoW or for that matter ESO came out. If you read my phrasing you will see this is something I think will be coming to MMORPG's. It is not yet a big factor in the changes that have brought us to where we are today.
Eh they lost me when they were more interested in letting people know the character creator was made by someone who likes drag queen story time more than Elder Scrolls Oblivion from 2006.

My only disappointment was Larian chose not to include rolling for attributes. I don't care about all the other distracting features, but I absolutely never have liked the point buy method. I'm still playing the game, but was disappointed about this one aspect.
I was just mentioning this to a coworker yesterday.
Maybe it's easier for balancing at the start to know what each character starts out with? Don't know but I would have preferred it. maybe they'll add it later?

It's a good game, it would be a shame if you didn't experience it.

Point buy is the absolute worst system. With a 4 person party and point buy, every group is going to feel and play the same.
These two factors are a huge reason why I would wait to buy, even if I didn't already have a stacked list of stuff I want to play through.
Here is a list of changes from 5e to fit Baldur's Gate 3. FYI for those that don't know, every single D&D crpg changes the rule set it was based so this isn't new. Some of their rule choice changes are peculiar to BG3 and some are questionably odd, like the point buy system coupled with generic racial bonuses, among a long list of bizarre stuff just to fit their campgain. Bad news for replay or custom dungeon mods (if they will even offer that).

As I've been saying lately, I've learned two big things in my life:
I have this game since early access and sorely disappointed in this rushed release!
There are so many game breaking bugs still in this game, since Early Access that still haven't been fixed!
All this, because they are scared for Starfield? It boggles my mind!
I wouldn't be surprised in how bugged Act 2 and 3 will be, if all those game breaking bugs in Act 1 are still unfixed! You can bet Act 2 and 3 will be horrendous.

Nothing with the client. I run both DX11 and Vulcan without issues. Never had a single crash on my PC.
The AI pathing in this game is horrendous. This has been reported since Early Access and they are unable to fix it. You will start noticing this when you get off the beaten path and tackle the more challenging side stuff in this game, like Aunt Eithel (the Hag) quest that has a dungeon with lot of poison traps and I experienced it in other areas as well. Even though you pass the disarm trap check and in the process of disarming the traps, your AI team mates just walk right into traps and trigger them anyway. Note: The boss itself is also still bugged and not fixed, so a certain phase option is not working (also reported in Early Access).
I had my team wipe so many times because of horrendous stupid AI in this game. Why even have these typical DnD checks, when your AI team is too stupid and trigger them anyway.
This has been an issue since Early Access and reported plenty times. It's super annoying and it really forces you to constantly create new saves.
Then you encounter problems with NPC enemies manage to hide half/get stuck in the terrain, so you cannot attack them, while they are often able to shoot straight through terrain like walls, rocks, wooden barriers, etc.
In general enemies in this game feel overpowered in that they always seem to roll the perfect rolls. Especially in many boss fights, I encounter that they resist attacks way too often, while they in turn roll the perfect attacks on you and your team the vast majority of times. Larian promised to improve/balance this before release, but clearly have not done this (yet). It makes the gameplay and battles often very one sided and unfun, when enemies always seem to have a huge advantage over you. Though on side note: they have improved regular checks/rolls where you can now add modifiers to increase success. This at least is a significant improvement in non-combat content.
Then lets not talk about camera issues, where you often get stuck in tunnels, caves, small narrow spaces with low ceilings, where you suddenly get stuck and unable to adjust the camera to click yourself out of it. So then I have to switch to "Controller only" mode and use my controller to get out of it or reload my last save. As currently the Auto control input setting isn't working either. So you cannot seamlessly switch between keyboard/mouse and controller to get yourself out of these buggy situations. Just very annoying/poor camera controls when playing with keyboard/mouse.
There are still a ton of stupid and annoying glitches in Act.1 that still haven't been fixed. Even game breaking bugs with main questline in Act.1. Issues with skills/abilities, etc, etc.
A lot of the dialog in this game is really poorly done and disappointing overall. With lot of times none of the choices give any different outcome other than one specific answer option being overly obvious in the outcome. I often encountered that you can just opt of the quick general option, instead of choosing ability/class dialog option that goes through a d20 check sequence all give the same outcome. So it's just all artificial padding, just for the sake of adding DnD checks in dialogs. /shrug There are some obvious exceptions here and there in the main questline, but that's about it. Romance is also nothing but a stupid gimmick in this game and so hilariously bad implemented, often just a single scene moment after you done enough Approval checks for said character (resulting in a one-night stand/single kiss and that's it). No actual relationship building whatsoever. They could have just left it out.
So yeah.... if Act.1 is still in such poor state, god help us with state of Act.2 and 3.
I have stopped playing again, since I have seen zero improvements so far compared to the latest EA release of the game. Other than that the ship intro phase has been severely shortened/streamlined. I will keep an eye out for the patches in coming weeks and see what gets acknowledged and fixed.

I'll get to it one of these days. Work has been bananas lately and I am still slowly plugging along in D4 After that I have Aliens Dark Descent After that Remnant 2 After that I need to finish my early Elex 2 game (probably just restart)
I would guess Q2 2024 I can pick it up.
Remnant 2 is awesome. Taking a break from it now to play BG3. Timing was good, too, since the last patch busted damage reduction. I'll go back when I get tired of BG3 since I still love the game even after playing over 90 hours since it released. I have all the archetypes, even Archon, and I feel like I made real progression even just playing on Veteran difficulty.
I've spent about 10 hours the past few days playing BG3 (rookie numbers, I know) and it feels like half of that time was in character creation. I'm feeling the...urge...to roll another character again. Send help.

I've never understood the love affair with rolling all stats, especially in computer D&D. Doesn't everyone just keep rerolling endlessly until they get the rolls they want?
I like the way Larian did it. Rolls biased toward your class and a +2 and +1 to plug in wherever you want + some tweaking by taking some things down by 1 or 2 and adding those points wherever you want. Took me about 2 minutes to tweak my Sorcerer how I wanted it.
I might still be rerolling under that other system.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time with this game, i gotta say it sounds like this type of game isn't for you and you are getting impatient with how the game is designed; which is valid.
But tough game design isn't the same thing as bugs or defective AI; it's simply what it is, tough game design.
And i'm not trying to be insulting, but i read what you typed and you did not make mention to things like 'party chain breaks' so you can isolate player movement within your party(which prevents the AI on doing it's own thing), or using things like heavy objects like barrels to cover traps, or even whether or not you are really making actual use of the environment to easily take out enemy encounters without having to ever begin the encounter.
The example of the Teahouse location is a really good thing to point out in stressing some valid complaints, but it's also a pretty advanced area and it's not entirely well-tuned to newer Dungeons & Dragons players, or even the average crpg player, but it's also a popular area- and it kind of sucks but reading/watching guides on Teahouse/Hag can clear up a lot of frustration- trouble is... most players try to not spoil that place if they can help it.
Circling back; i guess what i'm trying to say, is that in later parts of the game, these obstacles are only going to get more challenging and will really force a player to think outside the box and be creative, it's not going to get easier.
