We are just days away from Starfield's release and Bethesda has set the stage for players with a massive lore drop. If you want to head into the game with a little bit of context about what is happening all around you, Bethesda has laid out a timeline revealing the arrival of humans on Mars and the events that lead up to Starfield's timeline.

Early access for a single player game seems... odd. I get it for an MMO or even MMO-lite like D4 because you can get out ahead of the pack and not be jammed up in laggy newbie areas with the herd. However, none of that is a concern with a single player game, so why bother? I mean other than the obvious "people will pay for it", but as a consumer I don't really see the benefit other than people are impatient. Yay you can finish and uninstall the game before anyone else? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ikr, but being hyped creates boredom until the game is released because you feel like all other games aren't interesting anymore. So you just have to pay for early access cuz a few more days will kill you. j/k

I pre-oredered and the reason why I did was because I did not want any social media getting to know stuff before me and spoiling my fun for when I get to play. Yes there are ways to prevent spoilers but it comes with a free dlc when it drops so I guess the purchase of a dlc in the future and early access combined make up for the decision.

I'll read this stuff after I'm in and a bit. I like to go in knowing only what's necessary.

My fake Bing bucks bought the Premium upgrade for me, plus a few other games, so I'll be playing in a couple days.  The early access is a perk, but I bought the upgrade for the content and cosmetics.

I regret waiting to buy No Man's Sky until just before the first big update. I'm not making that mistake again if I can help it.

Speaking of, No Man's Sky is launching an expedition on Thursday, which is rather inconvenient. Not to mention there are a few other very good games I've picked up recently or released to GamePass.

It's not really the kind of game you "finish and uninstall." I still have Skyrim on my SSD and play it occasionally.

But yeah, early access as an incentive to upgrade seems to be a thing now for most games whether multi or single-player.

BG3 also has it although it's 3 days for them on console. It was also a thing for the Digital Deluxe (which applied to anyone who bought during the Steam EA, 3 years, period as they got an automatic upgrade to deluxe) on Steam but they canceled that since they moved up the PC launch by a month for everyone.

It's a routine deluxe edition perk these days in gaming.

That's new for Steam but it has been preloaded on the Game Pass PC app for about 2 weeks now.

We also got a 16GB update yesterday which I'm hoping is the "day one" patch so we can play when it unlocks at 5 PM (for me) on Thursday without extra downloads then.

Lore that is really lore, a rarity these days and a joy to see. It looks quite hard SF, but my presumption based on it being Bethesda is it won't be too much so. I think you can take that too far, like Frontier Elite, I doubt they have done this here.

At least the game is coming out, which is way more than you can say about Star citizen.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

Just for example, I have 2071 hours in original Skryim and 561 in Special edition.

This is an age on problem when you talk via text. I put in an excess of smile emojis so people realise I am joking. But particularly for dry humour, a simile seems out of place. What I do know is you can put as many similes as you want and you can still be taken seriously!

Joking aside this is why games like Skyrim are rarely made anymore, studios see you as getting far too much play for the price.

To be fair, right up there with GTA: They've managed to sell and resell the same game for a number of years now. So they seem to have solved the "too much play for price" issue ;)

I would offer that it keeps the franchise alive until the next installment. Provided the company wants to make additional games in the world.

It's sort of like built in advertising. B)

I think that is a genuine selling point to developing a game like that, but it means you really have to put the time and money in, how many studios are prepared to take that risk?
