I have this knee jerk reaction, like many on here that when players start talking about problems running a game I start think "did they check the files" etc. But it can be so many things including how smoothly you expect the game to run, one persons stutter is not noticeable by others.

I was playing a MMO with a gaming friend watching and told her how the only thing that concerned me was the the slight lag as I moved around sometimes, she said "what lag"? She could not see it, but is was as plain as day to me!

I would love to play but I found out my 10 year old PC with its GFX 1080ti just wont do it, complete slide show for me, I guess I will have it though if I ever decide to get a new comp, which considering the back log of good games that work quite well on my ancient comp Its prolly not gonna happen anytime soon, so I guess I may attempt a refund

For the record it runs fine on my ancient 1060 :)

Medium settings, and got rid of that film effect. I have had zero issues playing it. Looks pretty good although Im sure it looks better in 4k.

You must have sub 30 fps in New Atlantis cause my 1080ti only hits like avg 46 fps there.

I was also having lots of crashing issues and after two days of testing turns out FSR was making me crash at times.

Just played 15 hrs straight and not one crash now that FSR is turned off, it was on by default and I had left it like that. Using medium settings but blur off 1080p.

I will have to check see if turning film grain off changes anything for me fps wise.  I will say however the game is a huge, huge cpu AND gpu hog.

My gpu in New Atlantis is like almost always at 99% usage and it uses all 8 cores rather well too.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

I just used the Gamepass app for FPS and it looks like when I go to the area by MAST that has the water it does dip as low as 25-26.  But it's pretty smooth with no stuttering or anything and I honestly never noticed.  Other areas were all above 30.

By the way.  Windows + G brings up the XBOX App.   CTRL + G throws grenades.

Very funny in the middle of the city.   Good thing for saves!

Yeah, a lot of things that I see gamers complaining about my friends (the ones who actually play video games, so less than a handful) and I don't care about or notice.

Modss for a triple AAA title, is sacriledge to me. you can try and diss me all you like, but the fact that someone at Bethesda couldn't see their effects was crap, kind of tells me they didnt give a lot of effort on making a AAA game experience.

Skyrim was a AAA experience at launch. Mods help the game age better, not redo the effects suite Bethesda threw at the game.

Modders have my full respect, they really do  specially with helping game age. But a month in and the game needs reshaded, that is just piss poor effort by bethesda imho.

And the funniest part, there's not a thing they can do about quality of products anymore because of the union... THis is what Unionization gets you a lack lust product, bethesda will shutter in a few years. 20% of the entire budget was most likely pushed out for Union dues...

Or maybe it's just a design choice and some players don't like it. That seems to be the usual beef when a game launches.

That vocal group who, if THEY were making the game, would make it different.

An inferior product made with inferior tools, by an inferior dev studio; surprise, surprise. "Any thing over hyped usually does not turn out great." I was right. Is it a bad game? I am not saying that. It seems it's technically an inferior product by today's standards. If you remember playing the original Mass Effect, you had a land vehicle, though you didn't start out driving on it right away. The map was limited and it'd teleport you if you pushed passed it. In StarField, the devs could have made it so you had to craft a vehicle at some point, starting with ground then hover; instead they make lame excuses.

Oh Todd it ain't that and you know it.

I think they must learn a thing with Rockstar and such, they all have custom in-house engines but they do a core thing: OVERHAUL AND UPGRADE THEM.

Starfield feels to be Todd doing the same game again, but with a different theme, not having pushing much beyond their standard game, which leads to the game feeling visually and mechanically dated, outputting a lower quality experience.

With maps with borders it gets more easy to figure out on the design if fast ground vehicles were added you'd be hitting map borders much more frequently, alltough still possible, the one that's outright a big nope is atmospheric ship flight.

And these do not hit as "it's better this way", they hit as working around engine limitations.

In a nutshell: Bethesda has been lazying around with their game engine for way too long, now they can't output quality of the likes of RDR2 or even Cyberpunk (all old in-house engines).

The most annoying thing though, and its a common thing with many dialogue based games, I cannot remember the number of times PC's have talked over each other (its a LOT) and it drives me batty.
I've recently started playing with no companions for that very reason. It still happens occasionally in busy places but not as frequently.

Bethesda has always had modders to fix up their messes.  Leads to a particular attitude, I guess.  In their defense, they started the game a long time ago, and with this particular forked over Embryo software.  But they should definitely have considered a new or totally reworked game engine.  Years ago.   If Bethesda's next big game drops with Embryo, then they are even more pedestrian than they usually appear.

Oh you can bet their next game will still use their modded Gamebryo engine. They will milk this engine for as long as they can, unless Todd Howard finally gets the boot by Microsoft and a more visionary CEO comes onboard.

Now for the funniest part yet. Bugthesda specifically partnered with AMD for Starfield.

The cause of the majority of crashes? AMD processors.

AMD works better for my alternate use cases (audio).  And I don't like Nvidia's business behavior, so screw them too.  All AMD.
