Many have speculated that Alpha 2 is just around the corner, but Intrepid has put that speculation to rest, stating that the game is set to enter its Alpha 2 phase in 2024.

Of note, if this "switch" happened, it will mean that the Alpha 1 test roughly matched the stated timeline for full launch of the game.

7 years from Kickstarter... Alpha 2. Maybe.

I'm so glad than they can now narrow down the Alpha 2 phase to an entire year. That will certainly stop all speculation.

Also of note that while the article says " It’s also important to note that Intrepid just ended their Preorders for the game." I do not think it has ended yet as I was just able to all a pack to my cart and start to checkout. Maybe it cancels the sale at some point but I doubt it. Im not interested enough to click the last button and find out

I also, am hughely skeptical that there will never be another pre-order (though he may call it early orders instead of pre-orders or some silly wordsmithing). Game is years from launch. I would bet my house that orders open again. This is simply the MLM/Xangojuice guru pushing his FOMO.

They've already said it's not the last chance to get into Alpha 2, it's just the last cosmetics pack way of getting there.

Well it's supposed to be the end of sales of all pre-order packages and ending the sale of testing access.  At least according to the CS post on their forum:

"The pre-order packages are what we are ending. Those pre-order packages include testing access. So effectively sales of both are ending."

Like I said, I'm quite sure they will change the wording and sell access again.

It's likely they just haven't pulled the shop off the site yet seeing how it's the first. It's highly unlikely they have someone working on a Sunday.

Here we go again, @StevenWeber since you link kickstarter, why didnt you mention "estimated release date" on their kickstarter? Also, what about account inventory on official website when you login. We all see we have chat emoji, mount etc, where is game?

Since this is mmorpg website and you write about hardware also, why dont you start writing all things interpid or should i say Steven (ceo) lied about? Thanks.

Actually what I read was the September package has no end date.  Could be tonight, next week, January, or any other date.

So basically they stated they're going to pull the packages but not really pull them until the "last chance" sales dry up?

I don't care how long it takes. I just want them to get it right. Funny how gamers get upset when games launch to soon and when they take to long. :'D

It's unfortunate that so many of these Kickstarter titles have to blatantly lie about development time to secure funding from their fans. Either lie or be incompetent. I'm not sure which is better.

With Alpha 2 in 2024 I think a release of 2026-2027 is the earliest scenario. How many investors in the Kickstarter in 2017 would have donated $$$ if they were told it's a decade+ away?

Every industry lies. Here is the only thing that's not a lie. They all lie because they want your money. If your looking for an honest businesses. You won't find one that's making decent profits.

I get the sentiment you're conveying. However most businesses release a product and we have reviews to determine if their promises line up with facts.

For example, Apple isn't asking me for $1,000 so they can develop the Iphone 16.

Funny how some people dislike being blatantly lied to by people who take their money and some do not.

Some almost take it and wear it as a badge of honor that they were lied to.

Unfortunately - what Kickstarters has shown us is -> You cannot make a tripple A MMO from Kickstarter funds, simply not possible.

There are also questions about a AA being viable, is Albion Online AA? I could not call that.

I agree and disagree, as gamers only complain when a quick launch is a poor one. These days a too soon launch is almost the default position studios release games in. I am in the 'let them take their time camp', but as long as they are taking money before launch I have to put a question mark over what is going on. Partly the negative attitude players have occurs because they are damned if they do media releases and damned if they don't. I think just like Pantheon we have had our fill of such "articles" about AoC.

So if they want to continue to generate interest by doing these releases they have to be prepared for the kick back from players who are weary of the never ending saga of development, which after so long seems to have taken the place of actually launching a good game.

Here's the thing.  All things are developed on a budget. There can be time and cost overruns for sure as uncertainty in any effort can happen.

It definitely is a matter of degree. A few years of overrun is not unreasonable, probably even expected by most, but, 5, 10 or even 15 years?

Totally unreasonable, no matter how hard some try to dismiss concerns about it.

The ends do not justify the means, never did, never will.

I agree. I mean...come on!  6+ years and the game is still in Alpha 1?

Then it's no longer a game in development, but an outright scam, where one has to wonder what they did with all that money in all those years.

I helped develop rift years ago and there’s nothing strange about this development pipeline. Most MMO’s spend 5-7 years before they sell a single box. Intrepid neeed tons of mechanics that didn’t exist in game, but honestly UE5 was life saver for them because it had Tons of those systems built into it. UE5 was like someone decided to build the best Mmorpg engine that could ever be built. By the time UE5.5 or 5.6 hits there will probably be other tools begging to be used. Your first 2 years of development hell are figuring out what systems you need and writing them. UE5 saved ashes tons of cash and allowed it to basically just 1.5-2 years of production, outside of proof of concept. There’s a reason big name are coming over now and it’s because they honestly didn’t think it was possible before. They thought it over promised and would surely under deliver. A reasonable thing when you knew the state of technology then Vs now.

Alpha 2 is next year. Usually alpha 2 buts you 7-10 months from release. I fully expect to play AOC no later than the end of 2024 of within 3 months of 2025. Depending on huge and class design and how many linking a couple classes changes your character. I hoped for a lot but Steven dampened that idea. Honestly I had hoped for an Archage class system or what I designed in Rift a soul class design.

Sorry but I felt then like now. Rifts Roots and Trees system was the most original and well planned and unique systems ever used for class design. Our support classes worked exceptionally, out CC and tanking worked hand in hand and healing was actually fun. Cloromancer being my favorite healing class I built.

This is like deja-vu. Gave money to a kickstarter, taking longer than expected, visit all the forums complaining. I wish there would be a warning, even if in small print, that when folks donate to a kickstarter they are taking a chance.......

I hope this game releases and its great. If they need to take 2, 3, 5 years to make that happen, so bit it. Tired of games releasing early and being complete garbage. Also tire of folks crying about being "lied" to, like its the first time. Drama Queens.

Scam. This game, even if it does release, will be outdated, full of bugs, and will lose most the interest in it by forced pvp mode.
