Hey all, just a heads up the Embers Adrift is having a free to play Month (almost today-Nov 5th) that starts today at 11:30am EST. The free month comes with a free game download (have to register on the website and then download the game) and also gives the free users all of the subscriber perks for that one month.

As all MMO players know, first thing to do is go into Options and Rebind your keys. One of the binds to note is "Combat Stance" assign this to an easily and quickly pressed key or mouse button. For some odd reason EA keeps you in combat for 15 seconds after you kill a mob (IDK why), so to get around this, I assign "Combat Stance" to mouse button 4 and click that immediately after I kill a mob, so I'm not stuck walking around in combat stance like some noob. Plus walking around in combat stance slows you down a lot.
Assign Weapon swap to another easily pressed key or mouse button. Bow attack, then swap to melee when the mob reaches you.
EXP is slow, on purpose. Avoid grouping until level 3. Fight equal con mobs or lower until you are level 3, then group up and fight the harder mobs. Or wait even longer, as even at level 3 you'll be hard pressed to find mobs that require grouping, but you and a buddy should be able to find plenty of mobs for good exp if it's just the two of you.
At the first campsite (after load in) talk to the trainer and get a harvesting skill. Do that while fighting. Once that skill is level 6, you can get another. Then you have to get both of those to level 12 to pick up a third. But while you're out adventuring early, it's nice to be able to skin kills or harvest mats as your running around.
Defenders are tanks, Support are healers and Strikers are DPS, this is for character creation screen. Once in the game press J and then you can see what you can eventually become. Hovering over the options shows you all of your future abilities of the class that you can choose.
/z is for zone chat, /w is for world wide chat, I don't know why people have a hard time figuring this out.
There is no mini map, and the map that you do eventually have is just a static map, and the only time you'll know where you are is when you're close to an Ember Fire, as then that spot on your map will light up. However, the giant Blue Planet in the sky is always directly North.
This is the extremally pared down noobie notes and there are a lot more nuanced discussions to be had but these are a few (I hope) helpful tips if you've never played before.
