Trying Final Fantasy

My kid finally talked me into it - and I've some time off work, so why not?

#1: The graphics are well done.  I'm in a weird place when it comes to outfits in that I simultaneously hate anime and want to dress that way in real life.  It may be TMI, but my male character started with leather thigh boots and a leather bustier, not that there is anything wrong with that.  You cannot dress like they dress in this game and not totally own any room you enter.  I hate high fantasy outfits and love them at the same time.

#2: There isn't much of sense of exploration in a game like this - being story driven I think you're kind of on rails throughout, which is fine if you want to participate in a story.  However, I don't feel like there is any reason to explore, I don't feel like I'd discover anything.  Quest lines feel like a 'to do' list to me.  They're helpful, if that is what you want, but I don't feel like I'm kicking open the door on a newly opened crypt.

#3: Multiple loading screens in the same town?

#4: Too many games these days ignore basic physics.  I've already fought a 3 ton clay golem - all a creature that size would need to do is step on me and I'd be dead.  Judging the strength of a monster is all about the level; size or fire breathing or whatever doesn't matter.  Because of this I rarely look at the critter I'm fighting since there is no information about the fight there to see.   So I don't see a MOB and think "Gosh, that looks dangerous..best to avoid"

#5: I'm not sure how I feel about the 'equip best' button.  It literally searches your inventory and equips you with the best gear you own.  I've not read or considered gear scores up to this point.  Sure, it is easy, but how automated is this going to become?

#6: I have to give it to New World, the intro/tutorial to the game was much better than Final Fantasy.

I think FFVIX is well done - it is a polished experience - but I doubt I'll play it past the trial period.

It's a good looking game, but I haven't played it since release. I'm guessing it's gotten a lot better, but for some reason the series has never hooked me.

Do you mean the "original" release or the "redo?" Because it's very different from the original release.

The rerelease. I didn't try the original disaster. The rerelease was good but I couldn't stick with it.

Why did it fail to hook you?

I think the story is truly great but it takes a lot of time to get there. In between you will be doing some really tedious things but there are many , many good things about this game. I definitely enjoyed it a lot but I will not deny its less than stellar and downright boring fetch and conversation loop.
