I’ve played most-every MMO since UO & EQ. Project Gorgon is at the top of the heap, imho. It’s the closest thing to early MMOs and MUDs available and definitely my favorite gaming pastime.
They really need a Whale to come in and invest… and eventually make a ton of money doing so.
Crappy graphics aside, this game should not be overlooked. There is a free trial on Steam. Take a look-see.

This game is a gem. Its the closest thing to that original MMO feel. And despite having only 300 players online it feels more populated and alive than many other MMOs where nobody speaks or groups together.

It would be real shame for them to close it.

The price is fine for the amount of play you can get out of P:G and it is occasionally on sale for those especially cheap.

Those that can't at least manage the sale price are an addition to the player base they can likely do without.

I bought this a long time ago but hardly played it but I did it to support them. I felt it had very good bones. Really sad about this.

It is sad, especially with the greater challenges they now face not resulting from any fault of their own but instead personal circumstances entirely beyond their control.

Love the mechanics, but couldn't get past the feeling I was playing a 20+ year old MMO on dial-up again. Horrible, janky graphics and rubber-banding all over the place with a wired gig FIOS connection felt bad. Not surprised.

The game is pretty unique, but it didn't stick for me. I've heard a lot of rumors about weird nepotism and things happening between the mods and players that gave me old 1999 indie MMO corrupt GM vibes(Odyssey online anyone?).

Never take joy in any online game going under, hope they can keep it going.

Might want to do your math again, this reads in the article "aiming for a $20,000 back in 2015, raising only $74,781."

    My math off?

"Project Gorgon started a Kickstarter campaign, aiming for a $20,000 back in 2015, raising only $74,781". That is more than three times what they wanted, according to this article

So you'd freeload the game in a heartbeat, huh? How generous of you. That would help them out financially how? They need cash flow, not a pile of tire kickers chewing up CPU cycle on the server.

Not without a corresponding cash shop.

I think these folks try to make money the old fashioned way, box prices and vip subs

The inventory / bank system made me not play. I don't want to micromanage inventory/bank, just give us infinite inventory space and I would play the game.

Seems like extra inventory slots are one of the big incentives for the VIP so doubtful they'd give that up.

Inventory management is a huge problem.  Even for subs, have big inventory problems.  This game requires tons of items you find, but you have no space to put them.  So you have to leave them behind. Not a good feeling.

Next main problem is that groups cannot stay together if someone dies, unless you are in late game with special rez codes/healers.  Very dumb to do it that way.  When you group with friends you actually want to play together not have someone lose all there stuff then be stuck in another area that cant get back to you.

Finally the way bosses give curses Forever until you can beat them.  So if you and your friends die on a boss, you are now cursed, if you couldnt beat it without curse, how can you beat it with a curse?  You are stuck running around for weeks with some stupid curse until you find some OP group to kill the boss for you.  Another dumb system.

These 3 systems are very player unfriendly and they pretty much stopped this game from being popular.  How a dev can make so many good systems, then kill their game with a few bad systems is something I can never understand.  How can these people not see the ridiculously flawed systems and change them during testing, or in this games case 8 years of patches.

Not going to lie, you've shared more than enough to give me a reason to refrain from playing.

There was also a failed funding campaign for P:G on Kickstarter back in 2014 where the goal was more ambitious.

Interestingly enough the 2015 "successful" Kser was the 3rd attempt, the first one failed in 2012, the 2nd in 2014.

They later tried Indigogo which also tanked.

They don't see them so is why I expect, at least to the extent they feel these systems need be removed from the game.

If they did it would have been done over that time period.

And now the game is dead and they are out of cash.

It's one thing to stay true to your vision for a game, it's another to stay completely blind to the problems and refuse to admit mistakes you made.

Inventory is an issue, but not like...... standard mmos.  You build bank spaces in a wierdly obtuse way (by questing for npcs, and thus their pockets/chests).  Out of the gate its, very hindering.  But once you start befriending npcs, it becomes managable (by that I mean it's better than the likes of  Everquest 2 and similar games.  I hated inventory at start but once I got into EVERY npc is a questgiver, more often than not, giving space and real rewards, it became a non issue.
My main issue, is... itemization?.. gear.  Outside of the 1 in a million shot you'd get gear from normal mobs, (not counting tutorial island), the very aspect of obtaining gear was a conundrum.  Like I saw poor chances on anything but brains, in the beginning.  But materials could be traded for gear.  I've got a bunch of levels (mainly keeping them equal), but a.... piss poor dagger that had my main skill on it is a million times better than anything else I've found.  Sure, I like daggers, but I wanna play something else.  I, amazingly get the gear for it (higher than my main class) and I can't take on 1 mob vs the 3-4 at a time my dagger can.  Gear is a massive issue for me.
Edit/ As an edit, I will say it's the best game in this style since Lotro.  Lotro bugs me in a lot of ways too (especially account-wise) but this is easy, streamlined, and a nice blast from the past, albeit with a... moderately contemporary trapping.
