You have to be a special kind of stupid to 1-shot noobs 24/7 for 4 weeks and then openly wonder why more people aren't in your sandbox.
I remember when some tribes in Ark were grumbling that nobody came to the server they were on. Turns out that they too had been killing new arrivals 24/7 but somehow thought that would never backfire. Some PvP players are dumb as rocks.
I'm okay with the option to grow my character by going to PvP land but I need to be able to go there and not be murdered like 4 outta 5 times. If I get whacked 50% or more of the time I'll just not go there - unless, of course, my losses are so limited as to be very minimal.
I did grab some resources the other day and got away with it, which feels like robbing a bank or committing some kind of crime.

So are some developers who cater to these "hard core" PVPer's demands to provide more content (aka victims) by trying to "encourage" PVEers to step up to the sacrifical alter.
CCP lost my 6 paid annual subs along with the 10 or so paid accounts my friends had back in 2016 when they decided mining in null sec was too "safe" for crabs and not rewarding enough for the roaming gank squads.
They totally changed the risk vs reward ratio in favor of the gankers so we just took our wallets elsewhere.

I'm really enjoying the crafting, more so than any other game I've played.
Okay, I'm an ice mage - and I can get 'orbs' (rare drop) to up my skill in ice magery. It takes quite a few orbs to max out the proficiency and since they're rare I was a bit concerned about gaining power. In fact, after all this play I found my first orb last night.
However, using common reagents I can enchant my gear to up my ice magery skills (in place of orbs). The same reagents are also useful because you can extract properties from them and they're then useful for crafting higher level gear. Everything you can gather/find is useful.
So I can get my ice magery up in one of two ways, with the enchantments being a stand in until I get the orbs. Once I have the orbs, I can replace my armor with other qualities.

Shame though, I had 10 good years there.
I saw some of this in New World and left, in large part, because the developer at the time seemed to care more about a bunch of whiney raiders and less about the rest of the population. When New World combined auction houses, I knew that, while that may work for what they're aiming for it was a different direction than I wanted.
Some times a one-dimensional theme park is what people want. Nothing wrong with that.
The PvP crowd can be really vocal - and to be fair, they know the game better than anyone. They also play 24/7 so they appear to be disproportionately important to server populations, I think.
In Fractured Online we already have the PvP community complaining about lack of victims. It will be interesting to see how the developers handle that problem.

As you said, what matters is not just whether other players can attack you, but how likely they are to do so.
Uncharted Waters Online made it so that yes, other players can attack you in much of the map, but there are severe penalties for piracy, and it's nearly impossible to catch someone who is actively paying attention and trying to escape. Pirates mostly attacked botters, as they were easy prey with valuable goods. That's very different from a game where low level players who enter PVP areas will inevitably get die a lot as a result.
In Fractured Online we already have the PvP community complaining about lack of victims. It will be interesting to see how the developers handle that problem.
Maybe they should go attack each other.
One highly active PVPer can make the game miserable for a lot of lower level players who spend a lot less time in the game. Unless you have to be a whale to be effective in PVP, even against much lower level players, that's poisonous to a game. Speaking of which, Uncharted Waters Online largely did make it so that you had to be a whale in order to be an effective pirate. (Requiring being a whale to be effective at attacking others in PVP doesn't just mean revenue for the company; it also means that there aren't very many other players trying to kill you.)
Quizzical said: Maybe they should go attack each other.
They can not only attack each other, but in Aerhen (PvP land) they can wipe out each other's cities. In fact, one notorious group attempted to do exactly that and the nasty little reds got farmed hard for quite a bit.
They are griefing each other.
I'm not saying it is a perfect system but in a world where reds are crying about getting ganked - well, it is does give me a warm fuzzy.
I'm continuing to be impressed with some of the design decisions.
An important part of city management is crafting meat. Additionally, imbuing components are very important at nearly every stage of crafting. Since items cannot be repaired, there is a constant need for items at every level, and some valuable components include rabbit foot, and fox tail - which means noobs can contribute to city building and earn gold.
So I'm finding all areas (regions) of the game to continue to be valuable and worth visiting. In fact, I make most of my money hunting for hides in total noob zones.

Much to the dismay and anguish of the gank squads I'm sure.

I pulled the trigger on a second lifetime account yesterday. This allows me to have two houses, one large one with all the indoor crafting stations, and one "yard" with all the outdoor crafting stations.
I wasn't a fanboi before, but I think I'm becoming one.

Glad to see you found something enjoyable to play.
Haven't convinced me yet....are there any zombies?

I'm not trying to talk anyone into playing because I don't want to catch heat for when they find it disappointing. It is a niche product and it is going to appeal to a very specific crowd. The game is missing many QoL features (my stars, can we get an /ignore in chat please?)
That aside, there are zombies and they drop zombie brains which is not only ironic, but an important component. I want your brain.... They're in PvP land though, so there is definitely a brain deficit over there.

Does your "lifetime account" mean the $300 option on the web site?
Also, how many character slots does an account get, and is there an option to buy more?
I'm not sure why anyone would use more than one character. You can get all skills and respect attributes at least once per week.
I think that pack (Eternal) gives you 3 characters - the other rewards aren't available yet.
In all honesty, if you think you'd want more than one character and the other rewards aren't meaningful to you the other low end packs may be better - to buy two and get the character slots and a house on each account - and save $200.00.
Will it be worth the money?
I dunno at this point; however, I love what the team is doing so I'm throwing a bit of cash their way.

Oh for sure, with EVE I drank the Kool-Aid, would have bought lifetime accounts but CCP were too smart to offer such since they sabotage future earnings w/o a strong cash shop model.

I wouldn't play EVE Online because they never finished developing the in-game stock market. Then they made ISK a real crypto and I figured it out too late. I got mad and uninstalled because I felt left out.

I've been on the PvP side of the world for a couple of hours and I've had no problems with PKs as of yet. Granted, even if they do whack me they won't get much as the most valuable things in the game (recipes, orbs) can be applied to your character when you find them. In fact I found an ice mage orb (sell for 30K), but I want that on my character. The PKs could kill me now and take everything on me and I'd still be 30K ahead.
I play very conservative though, stick to back roads and do everything I can to not be visible. As long as trips to PvP land are on average profitable I'll continue to visit.
So I was farming goblins today and some dumb arse anounces is world chat he's forming a group to go there, which means every PK will then head there, so I'm logging out for an hour or so that can play itself out.

Very smart - mind you, he could be playing dumb to lure the PKs there so he and maybe his friends can ambush them.
In fractured you gain ranks and skills by killing new and different creatures, so as long as my time isn't totally wasted I'm okay with the occasional murder. In my time there I gained a poop ton of skills, in large part because I was in a large pick up group. Got alot done.
Now I didn't have to go over there since both worlds have stuffs each side needs, so if you need a material in PvP land you could probably trade for it, or buy it in the market.
I have to say, the way things are now the PK threat is so light as to be less of a bother than UO was back in the day. I lost maybe 1K in gold but managed to get truly valuable things to safety first by either consuming them or banking them before the PK hit.
Didn't like dying, but the risk seems to be acceptable.
I'm a bit sad I just don't find the game appealing because I do like the way they handle PvP and the justice system. There's many a game could learn from it.

I've not been in a game like this where the reds expressed terror of the bounty hunters. It is refreshing.
