Twitch shutting down everything in S. Korea. I know some people's livelihoods are on there. Imagine being told you are fired in 3 months, and have 3 months to relocate, and start over with 0 monetization options.

Twitch tv was basically an only fans website for pro-gamers who used their girlfriends to get free sponsorship money so they could travel to gaming competitions. Blizzard even moved to northern California just so Koreans could compete in gaming tournaments for millions of dollars. I would expect this kind of behavior from North Korea, but not South Korea. This is really surprising. Hopefully it will inspire new ways to find sponsorships.

Blizzard has been in Irvine California since before they were called Blizzard.

On topic, Twitch said their operating costs in South Korea were 10 times higher than every other region because of a 2016 law that charges companies for high Internet traffic.

YouTube has also said that their costs in South Korea are getting too high.

What I've read indicates these exorbitant fees are for foreign companies only.

I guess those affected will actually have to learn how to use a broom or a mop; oh the horror.

Sorry, but as someone who spent 12 years in the service/maintenance industry working 15 hour days sometimes, i have little sympathy for this happening.

Chaos Studios was originally a Florida based company. Blizzard acquired it back in 1994. Some Floridians see it as blizzard left Florida to go to California. Blizzcon was moved to northern California at one post so Koreans could compete.

So what?  They can always get a real job, maybe even one that benefits society.

lol, when your source tells a completely different story. I seriously laughed when I read the article. I knew you didn't mention it without good reason and my faith in you was not misplaced.

Even if that were remotely true, it's still a huge reach to try and create some sort of outrage over a perceived but nonexistent sociopolitical sleight.
