Is that more than the amount of views of Paris Hilton's sex tapes back in the day?Because It will probably be just as instantly forgettable in the near future xD
Seems like me this "cosy" MMO is due for a review.
They beat the pokelike creatures to death. Wouldn't call it cosy. Am loving the game. I love building and crafting and having a slave army in a game sounds like fun. I love the controversy, that PC gamer writer is a moron.
According to a few articles I've seen, the studio claims it cost them around ~$6.7M USD (converted) to make so far. They've nearly sold 1 copy for every dollar spent. Palworld currently sells between $27 - $30. That is a gross of $135M USD. Everything else aside, those are good numbers.
I see no reason why this will drop off really quickly. It's basically Poke Ark, or Casual Ark, but with additional automation and base building. I find it quite cozy personally.
This game is absolutely killing it on steam. 2mil concurrent. My goodness.
Cartoon graphics are apparently fine. All the talk that realistic graphics are necessary to succeed, debate is out the window.
Just like WoW, nice, bright, colorful graphics wins the day.
Palworld had like no advertising - so the excuse that indie games cant get big without advertising - WRONG.
I havent played the game, but people I know are saying they are enjoying it. It has a casual friendly option, so that is probably a big seller. Inventory doesnt seem to be a problem. Has a map. Death mechanics depend on the mode you play at, but overall seems casual friendly.
Basic QOL wins again.
Embers adrift/Pantheon has 25 concurrent, with a punish the player for having fun playing. Palworld has 2mil concurrent with basic QOL and focus on fun for players.
Hmmm if I was a dev, which would I choose.
Palworld has broken so many of the stupid myths out there. In the end, the answer to be successful is to build a game that people enjoy and can have fun in. Then people will hear about it and buy it. ABC's of development. I wonder if any MMO devs will figure this formula out.
Palworld will make a bankroll without a cashshop or sub.
I am enjoying it . I do love crafting this from a person who had two carpenters in Everquest 2 for each faction, had to have one for each side so I could make all the furniture for the houses. Vanguard same thing like 9 crafters that eventually led to carpal and me leaving for that sole reason. I also loved it in Archeage. All that plus delivering all the produce to far off places. Black Desert too I was heavily into managing my beer drinking workers.
This game just ticks the right boxes. I am not big on graphics. I can play games with lower graphics as long as the style is good. What is important is the number of things the game has for me to do. This is important. If I am busy and looking for the next pal to catch because I need a skill it has or looking to build new bases or capturing some hard to get pals, it keeps the interest going. When it stops being fun I find another game.
This game does remind me of Runefactory 5 for sure. I spent hours there trying to get some difficult to get monsters and planting and growing my crops. The monsters also helped water and harvest my crops.
I think people make the mistake of thinking some set formula works for every game. It doesn't there is a variety of things that interest each person and if they scratch those interest in the correct degree you're in and trapped in a game playing for hours. You cannot predict how well a game does but if after playing hours have passed, then the game succeeded.
Another important thing is it must allow me to use a controller and the mouse and kb for different things. I need the controller for fighting and moving through the world. I use the mouse and kb for the rest like managing my inventory and setting things up. Games these days must not cater to only one device. It has to be seamless the change from both these types of methods to interact with the game. I loved this feature in Undecember and truly appreciated how well they integrated the two into the game so that I was actuallly able to advance to the top levels with no problems or pain nagging my hands.
I am on a solo single player server as I am not interested in real players destroying anything I worked for with these aging hands to build. You are not going to destroy my hard work and I won't let you. I am so happy these games give me the option to keep out these degenerates from my game.

What myths did it break, that silly building games with poor graphics sell very well?
See Minecraft.
Most of the world enjoys activities I deem to be silly, but I'm not surprised that goods and services are provided to cater to their tastes, just the way of things.
Heck, mobile games are stomping other platforms in terms of popularity or convenience, doesn't change the fact I'd sooner play Embers Adrift than any mobile game.
But be honest, you don't really like any games do you?
You remind me so much of another former poster here, Wizardry. The sun never shines in his multiverse either.

There is a strange addiction to looking for the right pal with the right skill and building the base. There are dungeons to explore and over 117 or so pals to collect. I was making those balls to capture them like a loon. Then I realised my pals can craft woot. No more holding down a key.
The place I have my base at is too small. So trying to unlock more bases. The the pals get upset and sick and so on. Heavens! I love the pet animation. Not enough hours in the day to play.
But be honest, you don't really like any games do you?

This is a strange comment considering in my post I am essentially saying that Palworld made all the right moves. So I am not sure how you interpreted what I said to be negative towards the game.
Whats even more strange is that you are comparing me to Wizardry LOL.
Here are some games I thought were good FYI. UO DAOC WoW Vanilla ESO (1st few years - before they went EZ mode) New World up to level 50 - Its endgame and not having PVE servers killed the games chances to do well long term.
More recently in the Survival Genre I thought ARK was amazing especially modded Valheim modded was pretty good for an Indie team VRising I thought was great
There are many other games that I am not going to bother to list.
So yeah I think your brain blew a gasket.
You want me to praise Embers LOL, seriously? Obviously my opinion is more in line with average gamers since there is around 25 people playing Embers, all the others have quit. So if you want to recommend that trash, go ahead, clearly your opinion wont matter to me.

This game is going to be even bigger than it already is. Its going to at least double sales this year, if not triple. Thats 12-18mil sales.
I guess this puts to rest that indie games have to have huge marketing campaigns in order to be noticed.
