Last week's brutal layoff announcement from Microsoft has led the Communication Workers of America to highlight what it claims were zero unionized workers it represents affected. Though one has come forward to deny this.

    this is capitolism at its finest, more for less as in more money for share holders via less money going into games...thats how it works when you have no other way to raise share holder dividends, letting go these employees was just buisness, not personal

    Capitalism is why we have personal computers and video games in the first place.

    A union normally protects people from layoffs like the recent ones here, so actually, they can....to some extent. (The whole article is an example of this happening) Companies can still fire people who are part of unions with cause, but mass layoffs are not cause.

    Union workers can be laid off if the required notice under the contact is given.

    I expect there will be future layoffs announced for the union workers.

    Aren't there only like 300 people in this union at Blizzard/Microsoft but somewhere around 240,000 at Microsoft/Blizzard?

    Seems like a stretch to make ANY determination about the union in the context of those numbers. Lets check back in 3 - 5 years because thats the game Microsoft is playing.
