Ever meet a new person in game that was incredibly helpful, like to the point of giving you powerful rare items and expecting nothing in return?  The person is always cheerful and has a super good attitude...

...

... and then they get banned for cheating?

GAH.

Oh yes, in EVE I never accepted offers of free ISK because often those people would get their accounts suspended.

CCP has a policy of subtracting any ill gotten ISK traded from such an account from your account.  If you can't cover it because you spent it they put your account into arrears and suspend it.

Only way to reactivate was to purchase enough Plex on the store and sell it to other players until you raised enough ISK to cover it.

Yeah, but you're an anti-social loner, so you wouldn't know anyone.

I have always been inherently suspicious of overly-generous people in games.  If they give away powerful items like it's nothing you can guarantee they didn't earn them in the first place.

I have never had a bad experience with items I have been given, I must attract the good sorts. :D

Never had that happen to me either.

I didn't play Ultima Online with player killing etc, Everquest was my real first MMORPG and it was common for people to be helpful to even strangers, whether that meant crafting them some armor, tossing some plat, helping with quests or going to rez them. I cant say for certain no one cheated and got banned that i interacted with but not to my knowledge anyway.

Kyleran now has me second guessing my Eve online experience as well. I only played for a couple months, i liked the mining mainly, and within a few days of beginning and starting the weeks / months long offline skills you had to train to speed up training, i had been helped by several friendly folks with isk or whatever it was called. They were from a small family guild called Goonswarm, really pillars of the earth kind of folks, i wonder how they are now.

In Everquest we gave all our coppers to newbies until they were so moved by our generosity they literally could not move.   :p :p

That copper could be turned to gold if they could crawl to the bank.

Or perhaps I roleplay one on here as one of my multitude of online personas?

Or maybe you just assembled a crew to call out crowd grifting game studios.

You son of a bitch! I'm in!
