I love these EVE wars. Man this game and some of the best politics, backstabbing and spy stories I have heard comming from a mmorpg.

EVE Online is still the best game I no longer play.

Been over 7 years since I left....

Did you stop because of the time and cost requirement or was it just “been there done that?”

I left because I was playing a few months and then I entered my first wormhole and got blasted about 30 seconds later. Entered another one and blasted again. I went thru all my 4 ships when all I had left was that cheap scout ship you get and left the game. I was going to different areas too all in very high sec.

Then I thought, this game is literally focused on players amassing each other and just sitting and defending some idle farm somewhere. That's when it kinda hit me.

So I don't plan on going back lol. I just wanted to build a tiny little something out in my own little wormhole like this game spent 6 months advertising about (back then.)

It's whatever now. It's fun 5 minute read when a war happens but that is all EVE will be to me.

    A combination of several things.

CCP made design changes which significantly nerfed the efficiency of my 6 account mining operation while greatly increasing my risk if I adapted to their new vision.

I had invested heavily in several years of training (about a $200 investment in sub time) in skills specific to the Mining Capital ship, the Rorqual) for two of my accounts which were no longer of any value to me after the changes.

I asked CCP to refund the skill points, not for cash but return the points so I could reapply them in other areas. (After all, there's over 28 years of real time skill training available)

They declined saying they "couldn't" do that but fact is CCP had refunded skill points to me on several previous occasions, even once or twice at my personal request.

So I cancelled my 6 annual subs which were due to be renewed the following month as apparently they didn't need my money.

So you literally threaten them. Skill refunds or /quit.

Well , no offense but I would of do the same if I were CCP.

I mean you just said they did that before, aka refunding your skill points, but I assume the changes "this time", have been pretty big in order for them to refund your skill points.

Imagine everyone asking for a refund of skills , items, etc for every nerf out there, be it in Eve Online or .. WoW or whatever!

Yea played for 14 years it was mostly fun but....after selling out the game has been a mess ever since. Most players that are left stay because they have so much time and money invested. For myself I left in pure disgust and disappointment.

So much for Hilmars letter stating how sorry he was that he let his ego and greed make the decisions. All for naught he sold out to PA which was already known for milking its players.
Before I left most people in the WH conglomerate I was in had theories that maybe the devs are trying to burn it down on the way out. By the looks of it for he past few years its holding up to be true.

Every MMO I've played has offered skill, gear or spec refunds on any update that affects builds, balance, or gear.

Why wouldn't CCP offer the skill reset? To show the customer who's in control? To put the customer in their place? It costs CCP nothing to please the customer but they sent that customer packing to spite themselves.

If it were my business, I'd give them the respec and some sort of fluff as an apology for the trouble. Now I get to keep them paying me money, which is a key strategy for my success.

An example. A couple weeks ago, Chewy forgot an item in my shipment of pet supplies. I got on chat to ask them to ship it. They got the order and item number from me, apologized, and had it Fedex'd overnight. Of course I'm still going to spend money with them. They go out of their way to show me they like me spending money with them. Seems like a no brainer to me.

BTW the current 1 year average player count has dropped to 28K, from 33K around the time Kyle left, and a lifetime average high of 36k.

You are correct, it was their choice to not to refund the SP, but not outside of their ability to do so despite what was said which was the point of my comment.

Developers of many games often choose to disrespect the time, effort or money spent by their customers and so lose future sales as a result.

I have no idea if this particular change was a net positive or negative to their bottom line.

I do however know 3 other friends of mine, all multi-account, cash paying miners left the game within 6 months of my departure.

EVE's still going strong, I'm still playing other games, life moves on.
