Games that have zero microtransactions or addons now could probably be counted on one hand, outside of tiny indie games.
Does it make people feel better if those are bundled in a set and called "deluxe" edition? Baldur's Gate 3 has microtransactions, but no one said a peep about that. That includes a "collector's edition" that was ≈$200 more than the digital deluxe edition and contained about $40 worth of physical swag.
Does it make them feel better if the game is "online", as if that's some magic justification for $25 sparkle ponies, character server transfers, or inventory space?
Ok
That's why I see it as a bunch of virtue signalling hypocrisy. We like to justify all those things in games we like and then act outraged in games we don't. It's dumb.
What I read the outrage is mostly because Capcom "hid them" from people's site, even from the reviewer copies, until after the game actually launched.
My guess is BG3 premium issues were totally upfront from fairly early on.
Now personally I feel selling fast travel in the store is a predatory cash grab move which the game would be better off without.

It's my understanding that each of the items in their cash shop can only be purchased once. So you can only buy one Port Crystal. If they work the same as the first game (I've only just started) then it allows you an additional place in the map where you can port to. I don't see any Ferry Stones for sale so I'm not clear if they were removed or if they were never there to begin with.
There are more options to buy wake stones which will revive your character.
A waste of money in my opinion even if it's a small amount.
Of course, this does not stop them from adding additional items or selling multiple ferry stones or "whatever."
I think you might be right in that it caught people off guard and in some cases created a knee jerk reaction in some.
I saw it and though "oh, of course" and then just moved on even though I think selling convenience items in a video game is a bit ridiculous. "make the game you want" is my thinking and if there is some inconvenience then it should be there for a reason. Other wise it's like selling water to a dehydrated person.

First these ad-bots seem to be getting better by the month, yanking terms from the news article, modifying slightly but still making complete sense. Call me old fashioned but I miss the old Ab-Bots with broken sentences and misused words. These new ones have me scared for anyone in a creative writing field.
Although i have not as of yet purchased the game as far as Dragons Dogma 2 micro-transactions go if the game-play is modified to drive these sales that's pretty crappy although having these transactions is standard at this point (Ubisoft comes immediately to mind, AC Valhalla had micro-transactions to increase the silver and experience rates, in a single player game). However friends who have been playing tell me it plays like the first DD so the game play still stands and has not been altered to something unrecognizable to drive sales. These did not go live until the game was launched but from what i understand a list of all micros-transactions was included with every free review game copy sent to reviewers and is a valid items to be included in reviews in my opinion.
They are working on the save issue as you should not need to jump through hoops to completely restart your game, this was quite honestly mind boggling.
For Optimization that's the issue with many day 1 purchases / early adopters but usually something they can get resolved in a few weeks. By the time i can finish my current game a good portion of these issues should be ironed out.

What I really do not like about selling convenience in a single-player game:
- it obfuscates the actual price of the game (which is most times not just the box price) - (most importantly) it is not obvious if, to experience the game as the designers intended, I am supposed to use the item or not
Funny you should say that. I was thinking the same thing last night. "So, it's a $70 dollar game (I don't have a problem with that) but if I want a bit more here and there then it really is more."
Still having a blast but still ...

They weren't hidden to me, and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has played a video game in the last 10 years or more.
What I get from the replies is that bundling that in the deluxe edition would have been okay? Guess what? It's in the deluxe edition, so why the outrage? The deluxe edition was listed well before the actual release. Did no one look at it?
Did Baldur's Gate 3 mention their microtransactions during the years they sold their game for $60 in early access? Did they mention the collector's edition costing nearly $300?
Kyle, you know what looks predatory to me? Needing 6 accounts to play an online game, compared to a $3 cash shop item.
Like I said, it's a matter of perspective. We forgive those things we like and want, and damn those we don't. I think my point still stands that most games do this now, with exception of a few small indies (and even some of them do it). So, why is this game a problem but not those everyone else here is playing including the beloved BG3?

I think, to clarify, people are saying there is a difference between having a "deluxe" edition up front that indicates what extras you get and a day one "you can get extras for extra money!"
There is a certain type of person who doesn't like what they would consider a "nasty surprise" and it's that "here are items in a cash shop" presentation that rubs them the wrong way.
I bet dollars to donuts that if there was another "edition" like "ultimate" or some such thing that had these additional items then nothing would have happened.
Heck, they have an deluxe edition that does offer extra items and no one said anything. I think it's the sudden surprise that catches a certain type of person and that's really the issue and then it just sets them off.

That's what I'm saying. There is a deluxe edition with the following:
The Deluxe Edition includes the base game and the add-on "A Boon for Adventurers - New Journey Pack".
A Boon for Adventurers - New Journey Pack: - Explorer's Camping Kit - Camping Gear - Dragon's Dogma Music & Sound Collection - Custom Sounds - Harpysnare Smoke Beacons - Harpy Lure Item - Heartfelt Pendant - A Thoughtful Gift - Ambivalent Rift Incense - Change Pawn Inclinations - Makeshift Gaol Key - Escape from gaol! - Art of Metamorphosis - Character Editor - Wakestone - Restore the dead to life! (A) - 1500 Rift Crystals - Points to Spend Beyond the Rift (A)
This information was available since the store entries were available. On Xbox, it is very clear what editions are offered and what they contain. The UI is messier on Steam, but it's still fairly clear. No one should have been surprised, least of all "reviewers", if they put a little effort into finding out. How hard is it to look at the store page? Preorders have been up for months now, at least on Xbox.

Yes, but that's what "I'm" saying. I think players were fine with that. Or at the very least, resigned themselves to this edition. It's the additional stuff that seems to have set them off. So, had there been even "another" edition that included the items that are currently in the cash shop, there would have been mumbling and murmuring but that would have been it.
It's the "surprise" of those extra items that just set some players off.

They need to put you in charge of PR in Microsoft or Sony, you are making a great case but you have to see how fans are not going to feel they were sold what was on the tin.
The mtx in the game is the issue, it doesn't matter if its avoidable or not. Devs keep normalizing it and I think its a problem that people should get irritated about. If you want to play mtx, price it lower like hellriders 2.
I've been really looking forward to DD2 but decided to wait until after launch. Im glad I waited and wont be buying. Instead I'm running thru DDDA again and are on my first run thru of Bitterblack Isle. Forgot how amazing this dungeon is!
Anticheat and micro transactions on a single player rpg... no thanks.
Crazy to see people still buying singleplayer games when they can be downloaded for free.
Well, you see, single player games are the best and most important games in the industry, and I would rather not see my favorite developers and franchises die. Stealing them is only ripping myself off.

Bitter black island is probably, in my opinion, the best dungeon ever made.
The last time I did a serious run of it I saw 6 black knights, not sure what they were called, but I hadn’t seen them before. They were huge. They proceeded to wipe the floor with me.
Adding randomized enemies really added to it.
hoping they add something similar to Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Interestingly, the majority of Sony's first party PC ports are mostly rolled up and MTX free. A few have had deluxe bundles or a cash shop/mtx offering. Most that I've looked at or licensed to play on Steam, do not. Things are somewhat different on the console when they first release.
No, I don't have to lap up that narrative at all. This isn't an endorsement of microtransactions. I think these things should be part of game play, despite PvP fans promoting the practice. This is comparing like to like and calling out the practice of a blatant double standard. We can't move forward or even have a real discussion if we're going to split hairs and carve out exceptions, especially if it's because of feelings.
BTW, the tin was clearly labeled. Not that I plan on buying the deluxe version or the extras, but I thought it interesting that the package includes some core items and credits so the player can what else they want.
"It turns out that there are things that you can do in the game, but can be made available more easily by paid microtransactions, using real money. The biggest ones? Fast travel, escapes from jail, and character customization."
You can reset your own PLAYER character for gold. You can reset your PAWN using RC, just like in the first game, even if they started with an initial arbitrary 2 reset limit, one wouldn't expect a person to constantly re-do their pawn.
Every single person that whines about "mtx" knows not what an ACTUAL microtransaction looks like. These are literally items READILY AVAILABLE in the game sold for $, not exclusively sold using some other micro-currency. Granted, technically $ turns into micro-currency to buy said DLC, but it's not going towards anything "exclusive". F2P mmos should've taught kids so much, instead they're busy being outraged over nothing.
Wakestones? Got enough to be able to give out and use. Portcrystals? A pain, yes, but placed them smart enough to travel around and even give one away to aid someone in their quest.
Ferrystones are hard to get, at 10k a pop with a single stock per specific vendor per in-game day. What good is a $2.99 warp point if you can't even travel to it?
And you know who allows DLC?
Microsoft, Nintendo, Playstation, Steam.
They are the ones responsible for allowing arbitrary DLCs to be sold. They have no regulations on what's sold so long as they take a cut of that sale.
Digital storefronts would ideally have regulations to prevent developers and publishers from creating these dumb DLC packs, but they don't.
Yet, in the end, who cares? Gamers are so f'ing stupid these days they don't even know the difference between PUBLISHER and DEVELOPER. They don't even care about the staff involved or who has what power. They're so entitled, living in their bubble, that anything that touches their bubble is an immediate threat.
Capcom has long since had games with DLC packs the same way. The problem? Dragon's Dogma 2 somehow has to be used as a scapegoat because these incel-minded brats need to brigade on a new, shiny thing.
DD2 is far from perfect thanks to Dark Arisen having much unique about it, and 2 lacks some nice story beats between the original story and the dlc, but there's also that fact of it being DLC and comparing base to DLC is stupid, for no game has been complete since the PS4's release, and that's being kind given specific game/company history.
PSP? God Eater, both 1 and 2, had a full price "expansion", eventually made moot by the time the PSV was in middle of it's life, because they came out with the "final" versions of God Eater 1 & 2.
Square Enix always had a thing with international versions of Final Fantasy X/X-2, and XII. Kingdom Hearts had final mix versions. Even 3's remind DLC comes with bonuses for Japan, such as dual audio. Dual Audio exclusively for Japan.
Scummy practices have long existed before Dragon's Dogma 2, and cost far more than $70. Even the idiots thinking games should remain at a base price aren't considering overall inflation, and would rather want to pay less so that developers remain under time crunches and paid poorly.
Some games can be sold at lower prices, but some games do make more sense to be sold at "MSRP".
Go bitch about Etrian Odyssey's lackluster "HD" versions, because they're charging full price for a shiny version of the DS games. Original, uncompressed full artwork isn't worth the price of admission, and Yuzo Koshiro's amazing Untold arranges aren't even sold as DLC.
They tried selling what is blatantly an HD port for $79.99. Sure it's "3 games", but on the DS, it made sense as they made improvements. Even enemy sprites changed in size with each game.
All that led to was more DS game ports, even if some are deserved, they're still ports, and they're not 3DS games, which one would likely want ports of over DS games, and would also show that Nintendo has something to allow developers and publishers to free trapped games that won't rely on piracy.
Also, if you're going to pirate, just f'ing do it instead of trying to brag online about it. That gets so goddamn old. Stop trying to justify it. You care so much to put yourself online for WHAT?
Do it and feel bad, do it and don't feel bad, that's your prerogative and not anyone else's business.
Worst yet when they try to do it because it somehow hurts a company, such as Nintendo. So what? Yeah, I have rompacks, but what then? Oh, that's sooo going to hurt Ninty! They're not the only companies doing stupid crap.
DD2 is great, but coming from DD creates problems of comparison, but that's just being a snowflake and wanting more. It's a game, after all. It functions well enough and should be enjoyed, because that's what games are. To be played and to be enjoyed.
I did say in another thread about Dragon's Dogma 2 that I was going to play the first one again. Unfortunately I have another issue now. I cannot move around and continuously change my perspective while trying to kill something. Nothing to do with it being difficult or any such concern, I just got a headache from all that moving. The constant change in my perspective, the panning around to face the monsters is giving me a headache and I don't know how to fix it.
I've reached a point sadly that my eyes are simply not adjusting and inducing headaches. So I had to sadly put it in the won't play category in my Steam library.
The odd thing is I can play Enshrouded and not have this issue despite moving about a lot. I found Monster Hunter World and Dragon's Dogma give me mild headaches that could turn nasty if I kept going.
My gaming abilities are slowly deteriorating and I am sad . I will stick to turn based and games like Mass Effect. I am actually replaying Mass Effect Legendary now. I absolutely love that game. How awesome was it huh? I will try a class I never played before. Deciding whether to romance Garrus in 2 again. Am still at 1 though and I just reached the Citadel. I had forgotten that tightness in the chest you get when you are playing something fantastic. It's like all that anticipation is being distilled into a potent drink that sears you.
Hubba hubba
I am glad to see you all enjoying Dragon's Dogma 2. Kill some great monsters and have fun you guys. Good on you.

You can't calm down the perspective with camera control changes? Maybe turn off "following" something like that? Or how about slowing down the mouse response time in the settings menu? I have had to do the later myself and changing the dpi via the mouse is a possibility.
Crazy to see people still buying singleplayer games when they can be downloaded for free.
Most people aren't thieves or layabouts and even pay their taxes when due.
I have friends that still do this, I tell them not talk to me about it. These cats make more money than me too. However, as soon as I talk about the macros I make for these games, they condone my actions as if it were a sin. Then I remind them the difference between the two.
Whatever makes you feel better about cheating.
What ever makes you feel better about stealing.
Obviously, you're triggered, so I DEEPLY apologize about how my comment affected you personally.
Triggered? You're not seeing the big picture, refusing to or assuming the two are the same. How specific or detailed do you want me to make it for you? Do you need pie graphs and charts?

My guess is BG3 premium issues were totally upfront from fairly early on.
Now personally I feel selling fast travel in the store is a predatory cash grab move which the game would be better off without.

Anticheat and micro transactions on a single player rpg... no thanks.
The last time I did a serious run of it I saw 6 black knights, not sure what they were called, but I hadn’t seen them before. They were huge. They proceeded to wipe the floor with me.
Adding randomized enemies really added to it.
hoping they add something similar to Dragon’s Dogma 2.

==================================================
======================================================

I am glad to see you all enjoying Dragon's Dogma 2. Kill some great monsters and have fun you guys. Good on you.
