All this time and he is still just announcing new shit, blaming other people, and failing to deliver.

Someone should legitimately catalog all the stuff he claimed he was going to do and compare it to reality. Would be worth a laugh.

But let me guess, THIS year is going to be different. He is the storm!

The CoE subreddit (https://new.reddit.com/r/ChroniclesOfElyria/) provides solid insight into the saga of Walsh's adventures in Elyria, albeit in a shitpost format.

a spinoff? how do you talk a spinoff when you havnt even done anything to spin something off from?

Used to give this guy the benefit of a doubt, but now I dont think he is doing anything other then grifting...

Other then occasionally informing us that the grift of elyria is still on going you guys really need to stop covering this guy...this is a site about games not grifts, if your gonna be a site that covers grifters, youll get more clicks if you move to politics

"Specifically citing media coverage from sites like ours and our friends at MassivelyOP, as well as influencer coverage, making the claim that it’s overtly negative in a way that is targeted to drive people from the game."

He doesn't have a game, that's the whole point!

"Apparently, in order to create an account, backers will need to provide their name, address and phone number so that Caspian can "actually track who people are.""

I can understand where this is coming from...paranoia; I think he is trying to make a game with what he has got, but that is a hopeless cause and the sooner he admits that too himself the better for everyone.

Someone should have asked him what would be a positive way to spin wasting millions of dollars, starting over again and again, taking COVID funding, firing your staff anyway, and after all this time still not have a single “product” anyone can play.

And I’m just gonna go flat out and say it: After all of this, anyone who is going to hand over personal information to this clown really needs to see a professional therapist.

His “plan” at this point seems to be to “hire” some unpaid college students to produce”something” he can then claim to have “delivered”.

    Yeah, good luck with that.

Politics discussions (grifts or otherwise) tend to be high intensity.

Gaming drama on the other hand is more wholesome. It's a good opportunity for a laugh.

In the video he listed off something like 4-5 games he was intending to put out and their order. A single spin-off would have been modest in comparison.

Besides there is a rule against politics here, so lets keep to the Gaming drama.

We might have a larger article on this game and the stories around it, we might leave it here, but I want to address why we still write about this when things kick up.

CoE crowdfunded 8 million dollars from backers. The developer still says he is working on the game with the hopes to release it. While we might be skeptical as to whether or not anything will come to fruition, we still feel like we owe it to those literally invested in the project to write about it when big statements and updates are shared - our job is to inform, our duty is to our readers who are interested in what is going on here.

I get why people would rather us not waste time or space on this game—I truly do. Trust me, I think about it when I spend 1200 words writing articles like this. But I do believe it's our job to cover it—especially when our site historically (though it was before my time) has been a driver of the hype around this and other crowdfunded projects.

If this was C-suite, Angel investor money tied up in the project, I might feel differently. But many of our readers invested their hard-earned money into it. Whether or not the game releases is irrelevant to our covering it, I feel. Our obligation is to our readers, especially those who are interested, because their checkbooks are tied up in the development of this game.

This particular update I felt it was necessary to write somewhat because of the media callout, specifically us and MOP by name. This is a growing trend among creatives who don't like how they are being covered - especially when it's honest coverage that isn't positive. While other sites might have directives to be as edgy or snarky as possible, we typically tend to try to be as neutral as possible and just report what's there. Sure, we might create a buzz-worthy headline - welcome to online Media 101 where SEO and headlines can mean the difference between 100 views and 10000 views. The idea that we and other MMO sites, and sites in general, have the power to sink companies is laughable at best and incredibly asinine if someone truly believes that.

I think if there wasn't the media call out, we still would have written about this, just maybe saved it for the weekend (and I probably wouldn't have been the one to write it).

    Just my two cents, personally.

Wouldn't even acknowledge the guy or games existence personally. Sounds like he might do a little bit every now and then on the project and get bored and then stop doing it for awhile. It'll never get done. That's me being positive.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

Yeah well they were warned by numerous parties that this jackass had zero credentials to create anywhere near the game he was promising in the frankly insane time frame he set. I feel absolutely zero pity for anyone who got bilked out of money from backing such an obvious nothing burger as CoE.

Sure - and you'll notice we don't really recommend people support Kickstarter projects around here, despite still reporting on them. (I think I paid for a single Kickstarter project since that site was incepted and it was purely because it was the only way to secure a code for a game I was covering at the time - I loathe crowdfunding, personally.)

While personally, I might agree; professionally, our duty is a bit different. At least that's how I see it.

I’m about to Crowdfund a tabletop game when it launches in a week or so.  I’ve backed tons of games.

Some people keep touching the hot stove even after getting burned… but I can acknowledge the issue is on my end.

LMAO.....so he is asking for volunteers? I mean, I guess there are likely 'diamonds in the rough' out there that have nothing to lose by associating with this "project" and "studio"..../shrug

There is no way that if any title launches from Souldbound or just Caspian, that it is something folks will want to play or be fun.
