It's not just the games industry and it's not just today - this is one of the points where I disagree with OP. In the 1960's a music composer made this:
that could provoke discussions whether they are "game" enough. But lots of people like them.
Now I do not consider the banana timer a game nor 4:33 music, but I won't be the one to draw the line for everyone. Because then someone else might want to draw the line over something *I* like. I'd rather skip that "game" for myself and go play Manor Lords or Helldivers or Baldurs Gate 3 (intentionally picked 3 recent games everyone would recognise at random, and are widely considered good), and let others decide for themselves.
At my Conservatory we actually spoke in depth about 4'33".
It's important to put that into context. Obviously, John Cage didn't "write" that per se. But he did create "the work" as a way for the audience to take in the sounds of what was going on around them. A moment of silence where the audience could just concentrate, or let themselves relax, and note the world around them.
I went to a John Cage music festival in my (if memory serves) Sophomore year of college. There was more traditional music using instruments but also some experimental pieces.
To his credit, there was a performance of one of his works where one of the audience members got locked in the bathroom which was located in the part of the hall where people entered. There was a wall that separated that section from the seats. She started banging on the door for someone to let her out and it was caught on the recording of the work.
When this was noticed the sound engineers and players offered to record/play the piece again so that there wouldn't be banging and yelling but he said "no" as that was what happened in the performance and therefore was a part of the experience.
When I saw Tzervo dissing a piece of music, I got my "Has Sovrath seen this yet?" post ready. Alas you had already replied, but as a consolation you did start with "At my Conservatory we actually spoke in depth about 4'33"."
I do hate breaking this to you but I put that woman up to it as a sort of demonstration against the banality. To my deep annoyance he kept her banging in.
Why not simply play AA or older games? AAA(or AAAA as they call themselves lately) are indeed quite low quality as of late. Beyond all sheen, there's often nothing there.
The thing is, there are a lot of bad older games as well. And great newer games.
Fair enough. I was just offering alternatives.
It’s an excellent suggestion and one I follow quite a bit.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I'm enjoying Helldivers 2, Dragon's Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin and Last Epoch. Idk i tend to find good games to play whenever i look. I plan to download V Rising and Stellar Blade next.
Games has become so shitty from 3 x A game studies that fails to simple "games" on steam that is called Banana where you see a banana on ur screen with a timer or something...
Where are we today..2024 and games are littery dying faster than they can get released and some "devs" even try to scam people on god knows what "support me" kicks starter sites. While people can sit and program a simple Banana game that realy isent a game.
Also i tryed many of the old games that where good when they got released when gaming wasent a every day thing.
But these games tryed to be a 2024 every day game and endet up being shit and trash !
Well if you are born today and dont know how good they where on release, then you dont know how shitty they are today.
Ergo Games are shit !
I think what I hate the most with gaming these days is all the big titles have 4-10 different versions. No I don't want the "Super-duper ultimate x1000" bundle for 500 bucks that gives me a digital artbook and a season pass for an incomplete game.
Did i mention my Orange game will cost 10 $ cuz you got to pay tax also
How long is it going to be in early access?
I expect in 10 years since it has to be good
You know gamers will eat you alive if there is bugs or anything thats harrasment against others
Gamers will eat you alive no matter what you do.....Release it, early access it, beta, whatever term the company chooses gamers will find a reason to hate it.
