This topic is a bit of a joke.
At one time I'd ask the question: Any good replacement for Ultima Online?
The only difference is when asking for a replacement of Ultima Online, well I was doing that for a game that is 25 years old; whereas, with Fractured Online I'm asking for a game that hopes to release in the next six weeks.
That is the miracle of early access in a nutshell.

How about a nice game of Star Citizen?

If you aren't open to that I have no idea what may suit you as there is a dearth of similar choices otherwise.
I hope you can find something in line with your preference. I imagine the announced change for FO was especially disappointing for you.
Soulmask isn't perfect but it's early days yet. I'd advise checking out the many Youtube videos about the game before laying down money. We've all been burnt bt disappointing games many times recently!

One thing I've preached on this forum and many others is: "Ask yourself if you're having fun and if the developer is going in an appealing direction, if not, bail out."
I've given that advice to dozens of people who find themselves slipping into a negative attitude about a game and usually get a response laced with profanity for being insensitive.
In the end, I have to take my own advice.
Here are my credentials:
- When I find a game I like I don't mind throwing $1,000.00 at it.
- When I find a bug, I report it instead of destroying your economy.
- I help build community.
- I'm not a tourist, I'll stick with your game for YEARS.
I'm the kind of gamer a studio would want - so if you force me to root through the garbage with toxic members of your community trying to find information about major game changes while deleting hundreds of hours of my work - well I'm out and it's YOUR freakin' loss not mine.Just two weeks ago they'd talked about releasing VIP rewards, at which point I wanted to spend another $600 on the game, what I got was "We're wiping you". While technically not a wipe, leaving me on a dead server is a semantics game worse than a wipe.
There are plenty of struggling studios out there that would want me as a customer.
I'll find some who won't trade me for people who spent $24, left 3 months ago, and promise to return if a wipe occurs.
Sorry to rant, not mad - typing this stuff helps me think through it.
At some point WE are the customers and OUR time is valuable.
Developers who don't get that deserve to be working at WalMart.
I knew a ton of folks who did just this when SOE ruined SWG with the Combat upgrade (CU) and the new game enhancements (NGE). One person literally destroyed their physical disks lol, a few have admitted to throwing them out. Everyone copes in different ways xD.
I also recall gamers asking Blizzard to restore their deleted WOW characters or accounts after doing similar.
To Blizzards credit they often would grant their requests, though if I were running the show there I would have said for them to go kick rocks and buy new copies if they wanted to play again.
I'm sure the lure of getting back monthly subscription was their major motivation to be so accommodating.
Clearly they well understood addicts can really never let go.

I deleted because I've set aside warning flag after warning flag - and now that I've an entire basket of these flags there is no reason to trust these developers ever again. No point in complaining in discord or wrestling with the developer for 6 months.
Just leave.
As an example, if they had an idea that they were wrestling with and the implementation was bad, but they were making adjustments in line with their kick-starter vision, that is a good point to hang on and cheer for the developer.
However, if you pull a New World-esque turn around where you're still trying to figure out if you're a MMORPG or something else then it is a clown show and it's time to dip.
FO isn't just wiping my character, they've making substantive changes to the ruleset of the sort that I wouldn't have purchased the game in the first place. I really view it as they kicked me to the curb in favor of a different player base. The hazards of indie studios in early access.
I'm not angry.
It's the start of summer.
I may go outside.
But I explained to one guy that I like having the danger out there (in limited quantities) but I define a win as overcoming the danger of PKs - and if I get back to town by avoiding them, I win. In FO I won 100s of times for every time I lost. The red is a problem to solve and when I find new ways to mitigate risk I consider that winning.
He was like, "oh, so you're like the other side of the PvP conflict".
Yes, that.
So, they added permanent safety for good players - totally killing this aspect of the game for me. It's a niche market, I'll grant that, but damn.
One of the new guys told me essentially "I'd love to murder you, but leadership says hands off"
I love that sort of thing.
You cannot get those interactions in a game where everything is on rails
Even games that have already released can change a lot. DAOC came out with ToA and I ended up quitting. ESO came out with One Tamriel that completely changed what you could do in the game.
City of Heroes came out with ED (Enhancement Diversification) that changed how you built your characters. I did delete my first character that was totally slotted up as a response.

It's tough being a gamer.
When a game is in alpha or early access, it means they ARE going to change it, so be prepared.
