Now thats a game to get hyped about....maybe

Keep it like 6 but add even more depth and another few months of my life will disappear without a trace.

I found 6 was too dumbed down and those silly cartoon leaders were awful. If they continue in that direction games not for me.

6 is the only one I played and I very much enjoyed it! :)

So I am pretty hyped about 7!

There is a reason its 95% off. The much better Civ 5 (possibly the best in the series) is available for € 23 on Steam, even without the discount I would still get Civ 5, but it makes sense to wait for number 5 to be discounted. That said, it has never been more than 70% off. Again there is a reason for that. :)

Actually Civ 5 has been on 75% discount, at least based on SteamDB's info.

Also Civ 5 complete bundle is at the moment on 92% discount.

For the solo game its still Civ 5 75% and Civ 6 95%, get the version Civ fans think is the best. Not only that the mods of Civ 5 are amazing, my favorite ever was a complete makeover with a Tales of the Arabian Nights theme.

I played 1 but it's been so long I cannot remember enough to compare reliably. I don't remember it being overly complex and I was just a kid back then. I loved both 1 and 6. I can get that liking the cartoonish leaders can be subjective, and contrary to the "serious" topic of the game, but I did not mind. I haven't played 5 which is considered the pinnacle so far by many older players.

I have not beaten the highest difficulty of 6 yet. I can't say it is overly simplistic. I have played more complex games, but not everything needs to be top complexity. If I understand correctly most people did not like that diplomacy loops were simplified in 6, but some claim that spreading the cities in multiple tiles was a good offset to that.

I personally liked it and wouldn't mind playing 7, even if it kept that direction. I do keep my eye on 5 as well to try it out. Too many good games, too little time :)
Well over time they did not get easier, we are talking about strategy as much as difficulty, but Civ 6 was a let down in both regards. You would have to take a graphics hit going back to Civ 5 that's the only minus I can think of.

Civ 5 is really popular, and based on Steamchart's info it's had average of about 15 000 people playing during the last two years. However, at the same time Civ 6 has had average of about 42 000 people playing.

Out of the two of them, Civ 5 is is rated higher than Civ 6. But Civ 6, as the newer game, has been a lot more popular lately.

I think Civ 6's really low base game price at the moment is likely because the devs estimate purchasing it has the highest chance of leading to same person buying more stuff in the future.

Have you beat 6 (or 5 for that matter) in its highest difficulty?

5 looks good enough graphically for me, I don't mind taking a hit graphically, it passes my requirements.
I have played at all the difficulties, but as I mentioned elsewhere no two players are going to agree exactly on what is making a game difficult. With so much flexibility in world design (not just via difficulty levels) is upping Barbarian issues as problematic as upping city unrest?

In fact not all of the Civ fans who agree with me that Civ 5 is the best, go on to agree with me for the same reasons! :)

Anyway, until we see the reviews for Civ 6 and I see what the players on the Civ forums are saying I would not say "don't get it". Its just likely that they will keep traveling down the road of ever easier.

Don't we already have like Civ 3, 4, 5 and 6? With countless expansions / DLCs? What's the selling point for yet another one? Sure is not story.

Same reason why Madden or any sports games come out with new version. It's called money !!

I am a big Civ fan, but usually the based game is borked, and takes a few expansions to fix everything. So I will be waiting to see if this new version will be good.

Civ 6 is from 2016, Civ 5 is from 2010, Civ 4 from 2005 and Civ 3 is from 2001.

They take enough time between releases that by the time they release Civ 7, even people who know it's close to the previous game are ready to play again.

I know, but ... what with DLCs, mods etc ... what's the incentive to play the new one except gfx and keeping up with joneses(both being rather weak motivations imo)?tzervo said:

One thing I liked from 6 was they made it so that cities are spread out to multiple tiles with different districts. This was new and I liked it. They may add something novel in 7 as well. The problem that I hear from older players is that sometimes they also remove or simplify older elements that rub veterans the wrong way.
Give and take. That's also a problematic thing.

I guess I have a case of "franchise fatigue", but how could I not? Not only is everything a part of a franchise nowadays, but also the quality has, imo, decreased. Just precisely due to the aforementioned franchises(devs / pubs think or perhaps know that they can get away with a lot of nonsense due to "franchise love").
