Players are literally getting most of the things they have been asking for, minus opr maps, and it is still the doom and gloom end of the world karen drama. Granted, AGS has a horrible track record on getting rid of bugs. If they pull it off, kudos to them. If not, it is a buy to pay game and i will go play something else? They dont OWE me any content. Bottom line, AGS, just like any other studio, is in it to make money. This move makes sense. They just need to communicate better, like 99.99% better.
The player base that is left is the most toxic cesspool of entitlement i have seen in any of the games i play.
This is terrible for PC honestly. I have no idea how they can pull this shit with a straight face. No content in the current version until october 15, that will make it a year without anything.
Fucking kickstarter scam level rugpull toward pc players.
I paid $60 and got almost 400 hours out of it. I can play more without paying more. I'm pretty happy with that. It's one of the best "MMO" like games available to play right now.
Banking your financial success on PvP players is like banking your success on jazz music fans. Yeah they're super loyal and passionate about it, there's just not enough of them to make any kind of living with it. They'll for sure write you a whole dissertation on your forums followed up with 50 rebuttals to any who disagree. Just don't expect all those words to translate into album sales.
Amazons PR/Communication makes no sense at all. All they are doing is confusing and pissing everyone off in the process. The offical discord is a total dumpster fire right now.
Such a shame really. Game had such great potential.

We still had a guy on the forums in FO claiming game failed because a bunch of "Karens low on testosterone" weren't man enough to handle PvP. (1)
In their view every time a game fails it is because they didn't cater to open world full loot PvP - because of all the crying 'carebears'.
These are literally the dumbest people in gaming, bar none.
NOTES ----------------------------------------------------- 1: In FO, the most feared Pks on the server were women, so there's that. The testosterone thing rings a bit hollow.

I didn't play long, but I felt like the game had a high level of polish and the world was beautiful with many really great ideas. We need that quality to merge with producers who know how to run a game.
If this is true and its carry on 'MMO' as normal but we just call it ARPG then someone should get fired for the appalling miscommunication.
But I have concerns as what was said in explanation is hard to believe:
"you have to remember, a lot of people have never heard of New World."
- These would be the console players who never leave their basement I take it? You guys know a lot more console only players than me, is there any at all that have not heard of the game?
"the changes we've done to the storytelling, the way we tell the story, because of the way our camera and combat navigation work through the wor(l)d, we feel like we're across so many genres, but this pushes us solidly into the ARPG, which is a little more well known on console."
- (world btw not word) So the way you tell a story in an ARPG is different to the way you tell it in a MMO and you can see that in NW? The camera and combat navigation are more like an ARPG than a MMO? I have seen the videos it says MMORPG, very loudly to me. Finally for you guys who know console only players, are we to believe that the term MMO is any well less known to them than ARPG?
I applaud them. The PC players are delusional if they think **they** are the big future of New World. Game's headed to maintenance mode, and shutdown sooner than later, unless they can generate a lot more revenue; Amazon is many things, but not stupid, and no good business throws good money after bad. But the 97 fans (of which I am actually one) will come at me, because they don't "fEeL sEeN."
You better hope their big semi-rebrand/console launch is successful. Otherwise, enjoy maintenance mode with no updates besides flash sales sometime soon!

You have a point, but the game will only succeed on console if its a good game and after an amazing launch it did appallingly when it came to keeping players interested. I hope for your sake and MMOs generally it pans out.

While there may be plenty of delusion to go around, I'm not sure the PC players are the ones who own most of it. I would place that package in the lap of the developers who've changed directions on this thing several times already.
Many of us working professionals probably have found ourselves that when our CEO's, Presidents (I work at a college), or government officials send out talking points or new ways to frame information, sometimes the translation and execution of those messages is messy. I think we are seeing that play out in real time with NW. Clearly AGS is unhappy with the state of the game and things are not good. Their only hope is a console launch but console players tend to be wary and concerned about MMOs so they want to reframe it as an action RPG. And they totally dropped the ball.
Now admittedly misinterpreted news stories by some media outlets added fuel to the fire, but AGS only has themselves to blame. They are in crisis mode and this is the equivalent of throwing a lot at a problem to see what sticks. AGS is in trouble. Period. NW, last I checked, had fewer than 10k concurrent players. Lost Ark dropped off a cliff and the rumors about Throne and Liberty are really really bad. Amazon does not accept failure and we are seeing behind the scenes issues play out publicly. I loved the game and still do. I have well over 500 hours in it and enjoyed it but the end game is boring and unless you are in some uber group or company, PVP and hardcore dungeons simply suck. And the entire game is built around population. I said when the game launched that once the population plummeted, it would be like a snowball and get infinitely worse quickly. There was little activity to keep players that was not group based or a horrific grind. AGS was not prepared for how fast players exhaust content.

This is what makes me sad about New World.
If anyone has the money to fully explore a concept and tweak it until it works, it would be these guys. How many indie games have we seen come and go, wishing they'd have the cash to get the title over the finish line and realize the initial concept?
Amazon studios has the money to really "pay their dues" to learn what they're doing and commit to an idea until it works. To launch a block buster on the first try - to expect that - is to insult the entire nature of how hard work, persistence, and experience works.

They could have done a FF and closed the doors reopening a couple of years later if need be, that's what I suggested at the time. They had a ton of cash from the launch to do that, but my guess is that's been squandered as the tried to make big changes to a game on the fly. You do not have to work in this industry to realise how much more problematic that is.
I think the problem many PC New World players is having with AGS is that AGS is being dishonest. A clear message from AGS would be "We are launching New World on consoles and want to rebrand New World as an ARPG, because we think it'd appeal to a larger audience. Nothing meaningful is changing with the game for current or returning players."
I believe AGS led current and returning players to believe that a meaningful change was coming to New World that'd change the way the game is being played currently and I bet players thought they were getting new content.

I've seen developers change direction before, but these guys really take the cake. At this point, why not just morph into a Pokemon clone - that seems to work well.

My guess is they don’t have a full understanding of what would work if they were to do this.
I think the developers for Final Fantasy were very clear on the changes that were needed.
also think that it was very “personal “ for the company as they were embarrassed that they failed to deliver.
Not sure Amazon cares that much.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

They are being less than forthcoming. Some information about that upcoming that had been on their site is now somehow gone.
It mentioned that new characters would choose one of several character types, each being given a name that would typically be used to identify a class. These each had a specific weapon pair they were to play through the story with.
Either that was an unintended slip of information not yet meant to be revealed, or they inadvertently posted something that was once meant to but was abandoned.
Either way, something isn't quite as their videos would have us believe.

Did a lot of players ask for another 10 man raid?
If you're into raids why wouldn't you be in FFIVX?

Fucking kickstarter scam level rugpull toward pc players.
The problem I have is this: Why are players asking for things (the game to change) instead of finding a game that already has those features?
Who are these people who buy a game and then immediately request that it become a different game?
Who are the developers that listen to this nonsense?
I bet me and 20 loud people on the forums could talk them into it.
