No, they aren't brand new shiny 2024 graphics but there is quite a difference. It does re-invigorate FFXIV. This game runs and plays together on 4 different platforms. Not sure what you are expecting. A single player game perhaps?
Yeah, the awesome changes must be why I have cleared out and removed nine retainers leaving only the free two and must also be why I have abandoned , not sold to another player but straight relinquished to the aether, my FC house and plot I've had forever so I could cancel my sub without regret.
Between Weak Lamont, the ridiculously bad story arranged around Weak Lamont solely, and the half-assed "graphics update", Yoshi made it easy. And you can see thread after thread on all these things on both the NA and Japanese forums, so I'm not the only one.

Long time player here, too. Also relinquished my personal house, and our FC gave up on our large one after they all quit.
I feel like I'm being gaslit into thinking the game is doing fantastic, when my personal experience (and everyone in my circles) has been nothing but the opposite.
Ah well. Onward to other games, as Yoshi-P always intended. Hope they get a new loyal audience with the fresh Xbox players and the Shadowbringers babies. If you are a veteran from 1.0 or 2.0, either suck it up or move on. The message is loud and clear for us.

Oh I'm so happy to see you say that. I feel gaslit into believing the game is easy, easy on a controller, and furthermore easy on new players. I played 10yrs ago on PC and life stuff sidelined me till I decided to pick it up again on PS5 and boy none of those things are particularly correct.
1st I came back to find my old character gone. Fine, it's been 10yrs, doesn't matter.. but starting over is an overbloated mess of missing features because you end up leveling so fast you never see the quests that unlock them.
2nd, 2 months in, I'm still somewhat struggling with the controllers/cross bars because of the way the game handles making you need every button in your kit in almost every jobs rotations. It's a lot. And it's a lot to take on fast as, basically, a new player.
3rd, no one tells you you need to slog through the main story to get to the next expansion areas and content. So you get to 50 and hit a many hours long roadblock that becomes a mix of boring message delivery and forced interaction with other players after the game allows you to not having to deal with anyone at all. Jumping into an 8man team after exclusively NPC groups is so so soooo much.
4th, probably not the last, but the last thing I'll note is how those 8man fights are mass insanity. The game only *sorta* prepares you up to that point for the ridiculous amount of AOEs and junk you need to dodge in these fights, especially of the only dungeons you've done are tbe ones necessary for the story with NPCs. The only things that save those fights, which is barely saying anything, is that most phases get melted fast, but that only stands to confuse players who watched a video or read a guide who ate waiting on a mechanic that'll never come, or comes too soon.
So many other MMOs I've played handle all of this stuff soooo much better. I love this game, but I agree there's some sort of gaslighty screw loose about it.

The game has become a single player game, until it forces everything it lets you avoid on you suddenly have to do without a choice in the matter. It's a ridiculous and rude awakening too, because the first times you're shoved into it are fights with bonkers mechanics stacked on top of each other that the game doesn't prepare you for in the dungeons leading up to them.

Players come and go. Old Guilds die, new guilds thrive. Nothing new in MMO's.
My FC is still thriving and alive after all these years. The servers are packed and the ingame chat is overall very positive, same for the people I group up with in Dungeons, etc.
Yeah. Final Fantasy stories aren't oscar worthy material. Anyone that played the single player FF games, including the new FFVII remake+Rebirth games, know it's light hearted, over the top, cheezy, chringy and quirky. That is FF in a nutshell and always has been.
FF XVI was actually surprisingly dark and believe it or not, developed at the helm of Joshi P. and its' devs.
You either like it or hate it. The official forums are always a cesspool of complains, hate and whatnot, with overzealous mods banning left and right. I avoid them like the plague, like every other official game forums.
People that enjoy the game, are playing the game and not wasting their time on forums. Always has been that way.
Either way, between WoW and FFXIV story writing, I'll take FFXIV story writing any day!
I've said this since the beginning of the graphics update reveal, it's not that impressive. But it's an upgrade, nonetheless. My personal setup with G-Shade still looks better and can achieve more before this update.

My grievances with the game are not about the story. Not sure how you reached that conclusion from my post.
There's a clear shift in the design direction between ARR-HW-SB and ShB-EW-DT. If SquareEnix wants to alienate older players in favor of new blood, that's their decision. Hell, it might even be the correct one from a purely numbers perspective. But don't expect me to not voice my discontent when I feel some of the things that made the game good for me were taken away over time.
A shill, also called a plant or a stooge, is a person who publicly helps or gives credibility to a person or organization without disclosing that they have a close relationship with said person or organization, or have been paid to do so.

Nah, just apart of the loud, annoying minority - just like every MMO has.

Graphics is always one of those hard subjective topics that people are willing to die on their sword for. Can't really debate because it's one of those legitimate 'feel' topics. I don't play anymore, but I definitely took a look and I can tell the difference. For me, the problem is the anime style. Just not my thing, but I still think they do a good job.

COPIUM IT IS...
You don't really see such fervor, for lack of a better word, in other game communities.
On an unrelated note, is there a way to filter out certain tags or authors from your feed? If not, there really should be one.

I think it is the sign of sick mind.
That is my old man opinion.
I'll die on this hill.

Whatever floats your boat there, champ.
It's no Pax Dei EA review, but I can't be nice for this many words.
