One of the few ARPG's to take the Diablo 2 model and improve on it. I do hope it has many different mythologies and stories in it. I would love a ton of Norse myth!
Yeah. I think it's always been an under explored setting in gaming. I had high hopes for a game called Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising many years ago, but they really screwed it up during development and I don't even know if it officially launched. So much wasted potential.
PS: Yes I know Greek and Roman mythology are not the same but are obviously very similar settings.

I tested the heck out of Gods and heroes. I do not remember it launching either. I finally gave up on it.
Day one purchase. I love ARPGs . Am currently almost 200 hours into my new craze Last Epoch.
@cheyane I keep hitting a wall with Last Epoch. Its a solid game but I just cannot get into it. I wonder if I am doing something wrong or maybe its the class I pick but I hit a wall with it. Any advice?

I beta tested both versions (Perpetual & Heatwave) and was there for the launch. It only ran for a bit over a year. Their last official statement was, 'we're shutting the game down, but the servers are paid through X so have fun'. Some reported they were still able to get into the game for a couple months past that.
While it had a lot of problems it had some great idea's; the whole multiple companions that you could give orders / put in formations was great, building your estate via quests and while not Greek, Roman mythos is just a knock off of it so it was still cool.

There were two teams for gods and heroes.
The first one never launched. Then another studio acquired the rights and eventually launched it though it really wasn’t finished. It ended up “ending.”
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I bought the disks shortly after the game came out, couldn't get into it and sold them, then bought and sold them again and finally bought it on Steam and forced myself to play it. Sure it was a grind, but I started to enjoy it more and more.
My only problem is after I played through all the TQ & TQ:IT parts I didn't want to play through it on the next level (I've done a bit, but just don't find repeating content fun).
I'm going to watch for more game play video, but TQII is on my buy list. TQ with new content heck ya!
*** never felt like picking up either of the new DLC's, not into Norse myth as much as Greek and never heard a lot good said about Atlantis.

I played one character in Diablo 4 and stopped when story ended, no interest in trying anything else, no idea why. I have 7 in Last Epoch and I want to make more. The skills fascinate me so I want to keep trying builds. I am always broke from buying so many stash tabs with gold.
I don't know what to tell you. I look up builds and I am so interested in trying them out. I watch endless videos of people trying out stuff and I get excited about doing that. When I get a new item I think of another build. Yeah I am quite hopeless.
so I would not call it niche. The genre is well and very much populated by many games. Lots of them are single player like Grim Dawn and Inquisitor Martyr which I adore BTW.
If you go to their respective Reddits it is hopping like Path of Exile or Last Epoch. Many posts and lots of discussion
It's not a dead genre at all. In comparison MMORPGs genre might be a mummy.

I forgot about Gods and Heroes. Thanks for the reminder. I really looked forward to that game. Love the mythology. It had so much potential!!!

Ah a fellow Inquisitor Martyr player in the wild ! - I love it too !, so underrated and overlooked though each season is layering the game and mechanics up nicely. I have over 1k hours but took a break and haven't played Soriritas dlc yet (I own every prior dlc), I need to get a move on as I see there's another dlc dropping soon.

I remember that game and was even in the alpha tests. I SO wanted that to happen because of the setting. Sadly it went through multiple revamps and companies if I remember right. Yet it ended up a total directionless mess. I however am looking forward to this. This isn't from the same company that made the original, that company is now Crate and makes Grim Dawn which itself is absolutely amazing. But the lure of the setting of Rome and their gods will guarantee I buy this as arpg's are my favorite genre.
The original game came out in 2006 and the company that made it shut down in 2008, but the game had such a following it remained very popular.
Enough so that in 2016 Nordic bought up the rights and rereleased it and again remained so popular that they've made a Titan Quest II.
ARPGs a niche genre ?
Facepalm!
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
I don't play or know of a lot of them, but are there a lot of new games coming out that use the old game play style of 'play the same content 3 times in a row, but at a higher level each time'?
It was my understanding that companies had gotten away from that 'old school' style of game play, hence my use of the term 'niche'.
I still love Aarpgs. I actually play TitanQuest on my iPad when traveling. It is by far the best mobile port i’ve played of any game. Smooth 60 fps on my iPad 9 from 2021, optimized controls, offline play, simply the full game with no Microtransactions

Not as big as some genres, but ARPG is pretty big. You are right it is old school, I will always ask "how come this is not 1st or 3rd person? But I still play them and some have been truly great games.

The ironic thing being your rationale for using the term niche (which still isn't valid, I recommend looking up the definition of the term) isn't employed by ARPGs theses days. D4 doesn't do that. Neither does Last Epoch nor Path of Exile. Not even Warhammer 40k Inquisitor: Martyr. D3 had that but you're talking about a game released in 2012.

Thats just steam charts. I played PoE for a decade and never on steam. I imagine there is an absolute ton of people playing PoE on GGGs client.

Was sorry to see it shut down.
