SOG = "Settlers of Ganarath" was the Pre-release of the game many played it longer than the released Game.
want to remember all the cool things about this game so maybe it inspires someone to make one like it.

everyone from all around the world joined in to the same server.
but it was a MMORPG and well placed.
it had used "Big world server tech" that is now owned by world of tanks from what i had read.
One of the things i really like was the PVP was over Land,
protecting land and the Kingdom you are in.
If the Light side moved in to the Dark kingdom.
they would take out a few small forts and take them over. for them to have a starting area to take out the Next level up Fort called the Barony.
all Forts had a timer that was set went built they picked a Time that it could be attackable every day. for 4 hours i think.
("The Front" game is like this)
so they would have to scout out the small Forts find the time it was attackable and attack them take them over.
and then be ready to take out the Barony fort.
you needed 3 Forts of your side in the Barony to attack the Barony.
(i think it had a max of 5 Forts in a barony 6 if you count the Barony Fort)
you will need 3 Barony Forts to attack the County.
and you will need 3 County Forts to attack the Duchy
(same conditions when making the Forts, Barony, County, Duchy for the 1st time. they had to be build none to attack.)
(i am trying to remember how it went. so my not be 100% on it)
after you have the control of all the areas you could go for the kingdom.
yes you could over throw the king and end his rule. he was a player and the King could set the Tax rate of the lands. so wars always had been going on. it was one of the coolest things going on in that game. ( kind of like the Board game "RISK")
but it was so cool seeing this in game. but of all my looking for games like this only a few are close to it.
In SOG we only had really the Dark and light kingdoms to work with.
they opened up the map more with more kingdoms to take over as the Game progressed. with a few others being controlled by NPC/Mobs we had to fight to get the land from.
in the last video you can see how the game would cut the polygon count the more people that would show up this was done to keep the FPS up as the battle had more people joining in. it was done on the fly. and would go back to high detail as the mobs and players thinned or spread out.

From Wikipedia
"Dark and Light received largely negative reviews. Common complaints were the prevalence of gameplay bugs, low quality graphics, and poor overall implementation. Many reviewers liked the expansiveness and detail of the game world. MMORPG.com gave the game a 4 out of 10, saying that it "offers a degree of freedom that is rare in online games" but "the game in its current state is broken, full of bugs and does not have half of what was promised".[4] GameZone gave the game 5.3 out of 10, saying that "innovative gameplay elements are not enough to save a game that is fraught with concept flaws, lag and bugs and unfinished elements."[5] OnRPG stated that "this game had potential (yes... HAD). The whole idea of a 15,000 square-mile world would be marvelous to behold and the possibilities are quite profound" but was still disappointed by prevalence of gameplay and graphics bugs, as well as losing gold when the character died["

Kyleran, what side did you play on?
Yes it had a lot of problems it was a big Bug fun fest. one Bug was some spells if cast would stick it never would run out.
and it would be random what spell did it maybe it was as you cross from one server to the next call it a zone line.
and some was just needing more time to clean it up and fix the code.
one had a dismal point in the wrong place. the ranger would try and snare you and it increased your speed. did not slow you down.
yes i have a Video i had this Bug stuck on me
and not only did i out run the ranger all over the map jumped over hills and forts like the Hulk. i had it until i logged off. but i stayed online as long as i could. ran all over the Map out ran my in game Camera. (they did Fix this but it took a long time)
youtube make me change the songs. so its the only one i could find.
and the player animations and models had been listed as getting an update and a new combat system. with better animations. that never happened. really.

seeing the Dev's had been tied up in court.
the lead Dev's was in a fight with the world terrain VWorld that the game used and had the rights to use as long as they gave credit to VWorld.
but the Dev wanted not just sell DNL wanted to sell the game engine for other to make MMORPG on. and that was against the agreement with "PIX" or was it "PICs" the owner of VWorld. so this going on and no one knew this fight was going on. all in the back ground. and so many players trying to play at the start.
at lest Pix came out and told us what was going on. or we never would have known.
was a hell ball of a mess. but still fun to play.

Well i have some nice memories of that game. Sure it was full of bugs and barely finished at any point, yet it was a whole lot of fun. I actually played it till the server went bye bye.
It was refreshing back then with that open world concept (no loading zones or waiting times).
The dragon ports were even more fun (quickest way to fly all over the map if you didn't want to fly with your own dragon for like 30 minutes to get there or even longer if you only had a griffon )
Also some of the events weren't all that bad like that dodo football game. Also the main quest line wasn't all that bad and made you lvl up rather quickly which then ended as soon as you were "ready" and all turned into a painful grind to reach the next lvl. Showed once more that this game got released way too early.
I have actually so many memories of that game that i can't recall them all
