Huh I actually think it’s a good idea. Heck it’s an idea “I” to make thought of a few years ago. In a pve sense it can spice up a journey and it can promote pvp.
The only issue is that someone would have to have a whole guild guarding the thing.
I know, which is why I must apologize for being so negative. It just sets off every MMROPG alarm in my head. Let's say as a merchant player I can buy a wagon of grain for 1K and risk transporting it to hither and yon and resell the grain for 5K. The problem with this is that when the PvP battle occurs the merchant player is risking 1K more than the bandits. Why not be a bandit?
Well, you get a great deal of noise about karma or something, but since the wagon will be transferred to a clean account it doesn't matter to the hobos. Any solution that has the bandits risking the same amount of loot or more will result in no bandits or zergs. They're not being bad people, they just play smart. I've yet to see a system that makes sense.
You need to think twice before attacking a Caravan. They will know your guild and node affiliation. Cutting off supply lines or just lowering another nodes ability to make money, means they will put a target on your back. There is many ways to get back at people doing this. One simple way is just harvesting around the node all the X resources. Once a resource is farmed overly. The systems in play will start to slow down or even stop that resource from spawning in the area it being overly farmed. Now you are forced to get Caravans from other nodes to get what your crafters need. Making your money back from the caravans they raided. If they goto another node, you can also just pick off their caravans and make the situation even harder for the node that started this.

Yes. It was to create a panic that people thought they might "miss out". That's literally what FOMO means.
Im not gonna be upset they know how to run their business and keep the doors open and the lights on. I personally with Pantheon had done some of this to do the same. Ashes has no box price, just a sub. All this stuff comes with free sub time. Your upset because you think its shady. Im happy people who want this game now get to on the masses can give feedback that IS needs to hear.
You make a post about FOMO and there is so much awesome into in their road map to discuss and the time they have it planed to get tested. I could talk all week about that because as a gamer. There is a game to discuss.

That's a very separate issue from the developer IMHO manufacturing a fake FOMO to make people panic buy.
Like I said, I am very interested in the game, and VERY skeptical about the developer due to his consistently shady behavior. Both can be true.

Steven has put in many millions by his own account. Its rumored to be about 25-35 million, is that true? No clue. With numbers Ashes team has given so again not solid facts. With Stevens money and players money, we are up to about 85 million up to this point. Again, these are guessimantions. So yup, players really want to put in money. Yes its FOMO but show me a company that does not use FOMO. New Burger, here for a limited time. Is it right? Im not to judge. Is it right for you? Seems not. Is it right for me? I gave my surplus money and Im happy I did so far. Pantheon is a wash, Im not upset I pledges there as well. For me, its the look in my trunk I got something to sell ya. Thats pure shaddy. PS5 for 50 bones. Ya, gonna love me some shaddy.

Before I continue, though, I want to make it clear I'm not bagging on you and I'm not bagging on AoC even, because it hasn't been released in its final form. Understand, I'm kicking around a concept here - not a person, and not a game.
So, your post illustrates my point in that you care about the best gear, and you care about crafting supplies, and you care about battle lines. You're speaking in terms of what would cause you to re-think murder.
Murder hobos only care about killing other players and taking their stuff. It is a very freeing philosophy, I'll give 'em that. A trade route falling to pieces, or a town disappearing, or crafting supplies not being available - how does any of that persuade the murder hobos to think twice about whacking a caravan? In FO I had some murder hobos that would leave me alone because I'd give them my cast off gear. I was in a PvE clan. :P People will just cut deals with the hobos - I assure you the most powerful alliance on the server will have backdoor deals with the murder hobos - guaranteed. The only problem with that is the small guys who will quit in droves when they're too small to be in on the fix.

My self, I just got bigger and stronger and just later hunted the PKers that were a pain to low levels players. Funny, they had some really bad gear, they just didnt care about progressing, just PKing. I think PKers will most likely live in the new Lawless Lands announced.

It would be different in my eyes if they at least waited for the Alpha 2 test to start and then after a few months re-opened it. But from my view what they did here, to use your New Burger analogy, is say "Hey pre-order your New Burger today for $25o or you may not get one when they launch!!! Then, still before launch, they had another sale that said "Pre-Order your New Burger today for $110!!"
That's the difference IMHO. They squeezed people to buy something more expensive because they claimed it would be gone and then before it even came out they dramatically lowered the price.

Yup, pure FOMO you wont hear me saying otherwise. I also think the price is not in the industry standard. Lots of games doing the same thing for about $25 to $50 bucks. I will say they are keeping in the consumers want to pay zone. These things are flying off the shelf. I see people cheering as they get them. "See ya all in A2" The demand for this game is real. Does it make it right? ((((shrugs))) I cant wait for Oct so I can report if this is a real game worth what people have put into it.

It's all a question of perspective. When you like, enjoy or support something what is done is all grey but when you don't like a game the very same things you were okay about earlier is a red flag. I am like that too.
Disgustingly so. Once upon a time I was swearing up and down about predatory things like paying for a loot pet weekly or buying things with real money to modify the map in an ARPG for certain effects like in Undecember and how it's bad. After awhile I was playing the game and by golly I was really enjoying myself and the red flag became grey and I became colour blind. I am that frog in the pot.
I should be ashamed but I feel my life is short, well really so, as I am close to 70 ( I might be stretching the 65, I am always 70) and not getting younger. I want to play while my hands still work. I will cross every line I draw in the end if the game is worth it, I'll be honest about that.
Undecember is even a mobile game but it plays like no mobile game I know on the PC as it is genuinely challenging. I always imagine mobile games to be simple and complete pushovers.

I dont believe anything, including bashers. Im an old school MMOer. I have longed for an old school MMO that gose back to before the trinity. Tank, DPS, Healer and Support. I loved playing a pure support. I backed Pantheon and Ashes because of just that. I like to take people at their word till they prove otherwise. Steven has lied and FOMOed but never has he done so about what he loves. MMO and the game he is trying to make. Everything he has done, is to make that game. Not saying everything he has done is right. Just that I am willing to take this ride to maybe get a new MMO in the style I like. Like Pantheon, if Ashes fails. You will not see me talk about Ashes again. I will just look for something new and play what I have. I really think Steven may have something here.

A lot depends on the power gap between levels and gear. I recall in Lineage 1 there was a pair of premier gankers who were only level 48 or so (soft cap was 50) and never wore or carried anything but crap gear. No level 9 Yumi Bows for them.
With just this cheap set up they killed hundreds, used to have their own web page with screen shots of everyone the killed.
Used to be very hard to level past 50 in those days with only a small handful of players getting into the 51+ range, usually accounts played by a group of Koreans sitting in a cafe 24x7.
I remember when the gank twins managed to kill one of these elite players who actually lost months of leveling progress or actually de-leveled which was a thing in L1.
The killed player was nearly apoleptic in his rage at the indignity of it all, and swore every Korean guild would be hunting them forever.
They just laughed and logged into some new alts and did it all again.
Never have seen any MMORPG who found a good way to stop the murder hobos, and quite often developers have to be careful in coming across too heavy handed.
CCP learned the hard way sometimes that gankers pay monthly subs too and since they run a PVP centric sandbox those folks make up a substantial portion of the core player base who pay day in and day out.

Huh I actually think it’s a good idea. Heck it’s an idea “I” to make thought of a few years ago. In a pve sense it can spice up a journey and it can promote pvp.
The only issue is that someone would have to have a whole guild guarding the thing.
I know, which is why I must apologize for being so negative. It just sets off every MMROPG alarm in my head. Let's say as a merchant player I can buy a wagon of grain for 1K and risk transporting it to hither and yon and resell the grain for 5K. The problem with this is that when the PvP battle occurs the merchant player is risking 1K more than the bandits. Why not be a bandit?
Well, you get a great deal of noise about karma or something, but since the wagon will be transferred to a clean account it doesn't matter to the hobos. Any solution that has the bandits risking the same amount of loot or more will result in no bandits or zergs. They're not being bad people, they just play smart. I've yet to see a system that makes sense.
If that's how you plan to do it, you're doing it all wrong. You don't just spend 1k and then hope to sell it for 5k to earn you 4k profit. That's a recipe for disaster!
No no no. You spend 1k to buy the merchandise and then you spend 1k more to hire the muscle that will go with you.
When you get attacked by bandits, your investment in mercenaries ought to yield results, i.e. a bunch of dead bandits and their gear as an extra profit for you. So once you reach your destination, you pay your hired guns the agreed fee, sell your merchandise and the gear you looted off the dead bandits. Instead of a 4k profit, you end up with a 6k profit.
As a caravaneer, you're a magnet for all the fat loot that wannabee raiders will be bringing your way. You just need to be prepared.
Also, don't forget that the caravans are supposed to be linked with the node system and their growth. In addition to the direct profit, you could also be developing your own node into a metropolis, with all its perks for you and your citizens.

However, what you just described is too complex to work, IMHO.
Murder hobos don't care about crafting, or the viability of nodes, or a town. Murder hobos will have plenty of crafters - probably in your guild or any guild they need them to be within.
We had something funny along these lines happen in Shadowbane where a group, late in the game's history, found the perfect OP classes to play. They put up a town of total minimal cost, and then ran around in destroyed everyone in PvP. The rest of us had invested heavily in our towns so losing them really hurt. These guys ran thin.
So whatever cons you put up for the murder hobos they'll just use the FOTM class or numbers to dog pile your caravan. They won't have a town to lose, or nodes they care about. You're giving answers using game features they'll ignore.
The limitations you cite work in real life but don't transfer over to a video game.
That's a very separate issue from the developer IMHO manufacturing a fake FOMO to make people panic buy.
Like I said, I am very interested in the game, and VERY skeptical about the developer due to his consistently shady behavior. Both can be true.

Before I continue, though, I want to make it clear I'm not bagging on you and I'm not bagging on AoC even, because it hasn't been released in its final form. Understand, I'm kicking around a concept here - not a person, and not a game.
So, your post illustrates my point in that you care about the best gear, and you care about crafting supplies, and you care about battle lines. You're speaking in terms of what would cause you to re-think murder.
Murder hobos only care about killing other players and taking their stuff.
It is a very freeing philosophy, I'll give 'em that.
A trade route falling to pieces, or a town disappearing, or crafting supplies not being available - how does any of that persuade the murder hobos to think twice about whacking a caravan?
In FO I had some murder hobos that would leave me alone because I'd give them my cast off gear. I was in a PvE clan. :P People will just cut deals with the hobos - I assure you the most powerful alliance on the server will have backdoor deals with the murder hobos - guaranteed.
The only problem with that is the small guys who will quit in droves when they're too small to be in on the fix.
That's the difference IMHO. They squeezed people to buy something more expensive because they claimed it would be gone and then before it even came out they dramatically lowered the price.

Disgustingly so. Once upon a time I was swearing up and down about predatory things like paying for a loot pet weekly or buying things with real money to modify the map in an ARPG for certain effects like in Undecember and how it's bad. After awhile I was playing the game and by golly I was really enjoying myself and the red flag became grey and I became colour blind. I am that frog in the pot.
I should be ashamed but I feel my life is short, well really so, as I am close to 70 ( I might be stretching the 65, I am always 70) and not getting younger. I want to play while my hands still work. I will cross every line I draw in the end if the game is worth it, I'll be honest about that.
Undecember is even a mobile game but it plays like no mobile game I know on the PC as it is genuinely challenging. I always imagine mobile games to be simple and complete pushovers.
With just this cheap set up they killed hundreds, used to have their own web page with screen shots of everyone the killed.
Used to be very hard to level past 50 in those days with only a small handful of players getting into the 51+ range, usually accounts played by a group of Koreans sitting in a cafe 24x7.
I remember when the gank twins managed to kill one of these elite players who actually lost months of leveling progress or actually de-leveled which was a thing in L1.
The killed player was nearly apoleptic in his rage at the indignity of it all, and swore every Korean guild would be hunting them forever.
They just laughed and logged into some new alts and did it all again.
Never have seen any MMORPG who found a good way to stop the murder hobos, and quite often developers have to be careful in coming across too heavy handed.
CCP learned the hard way sometimes that gankers pay monthly subs too and since they run a PVP centric sandbox those folks make up a substantial portion of the core player base who pay day in and day out.
