Is that because of the recent expansion? I tried to go back to the game multiple times over the years since release but the overall feel of it felt lackluster to me compared to titles like gw2, especially when it comes to the combat. If things have changed I’d be willing to give it another shot high key have been waiting for a good excuse to pick the game back up

    About ESO !
It has been a while since i played it.
So i need to buy at least 3 expansions that DONT come with the ESO+ sub.
Its gona be a 100 EU investment in expansion + 1 month sub fee !
In order to enjoy the full game !

You have to buy the Collection:Gold Road (not the upgrade) which is about 53 EU. That doesn't seem to include any sub time so you'd have to get that too.

Yeah $50 to $60 for the newest plus the previous.
Plus the monthly sub (which you don't have to get but is advisable)
I think it is a fair price for the amount of content and quality of the content.

GW2 would be a cheaper option

I've noticed here that people often try to sway others into paying alot of money to go back to a MMO....there are many cheap options you dont need to pay a hundred euros to enjoy a game.

Been awhile for me as well. Unless they've added some kind of progression after level 50 besides just grinding champion points I see no reason to return to the game.

Cheaper has never necessarily been batter. To me ESO is the better game, but I think you may already agree with that? Mind you both are good choices.

The OP may have been joking but sometimes I watch video reviews of less well known games and do wonder how much of this did they play?

Im not joking...im super cereal haha

Nah i just want to find the golden game and be in a clan and have fun and video nights and have BBQ and dance to Taylor swift....haha

But for real..what kageno said is the true price for a game. I wish i could find my shelf in a game on day.

So that why i changed my negative hat to Yes hat !
    Im the Yes man now!

Btw i tryed Runescape and i did like the game even if it was a bit slow paced. But after the start area then i got dumped in to a huge town like area where there was 1000 icons on my screen and i dident know what to do...so i uninstalled it but i did try it !!!

That's going to be a "your mileage may vary" thing.

I think Elder Scrolls Online is much better than Guild Wars 2. I've had huge difficulties staying with Guild Wars 2, even though it's a very well made and very beautiful game. However, for me it was dull While I have huge criticisms for Elder Scrolls Online, as an MMORPG it's pretty good.

I'll also throw out Lord of the Rings Online.

I'll also throw out Black Desert though my suggestion is to get into a good, non-competitive guild.

Recommendations were requested and provided. What is done with them if anything is entirely up to the OP. Do you have a suggestion for a MMORPG that is cheap and enjoyable?

I don't think there's a game out there that requires $100 up front to enjoy it? Well, unless it's some specialty game that requires bit coin investment or "whatever."

You can play Uncharted Waters Origin for free.  A lot of the top players pay little or nothing, as the top player lists are dominated by playing time, not money spent.

If you've played some MMORPGs until you're sick of them, and then you play another game that is very similar to the ones that you're already sick of, then you're 90% of the way to being sick of the new game before you even start it.  The fix is to pick a new game that is very different from anything you've played before.  Such as UWO.

I'm still on the emu bandwagon at the moment. I maintain a shop in SWGEmu - though i admit the population is basically non-existent there now, so i don't do anything other than re-list expired items on my vendors and the occasional credit-grind session - and I'm actively playing WAR RoR again.

WAR RoR is comparatively good, regularly get 800+ during EU prime time, nearly all of whom participate in PvP so there is always action. The devs regularly make events and add small amounts of content. Their ability to balance the game is not good, so being a PvP game there is a vocal portion of the community who complains a lot with each balance patch. But if you aren't too worried about endgame meta, you can have a lot of fun.

ESO hands down with a sub is the best option on the market in 2024.

I'm not that much into PvP but the bit I did try of WAR RoR was decent. For those that enjoy that kind of play it is likely a good free of cost option.

ESO is a wierd one because people seem to either love it or hate it...There doesnt seem to be much middle ground. Also it is a HUGE download (well over 100 gigs) so make sure your PC has room and your internet is fast or it wil ltake forever to download it.

I just dislike the weapon swap combat..why dont they just make enough action bars like wow classic did. Also the animation cancel is a pain.

I am playing a 1 bar build by using a Relic ring called Oakensoul.  It gives a ridiculous amount of buffs but restricts you to just 1 bar (no weapon swap).

Now, the best players will always have an edge by swapping like crazy and timing everything perfectly but I can hold my own in pretty much all scenarios.

As a bonus for ESO, if you actually take the time to read the stories it’s pretty damn cool.

I loved my time with ESO. I would still be playing it but for the bugs. I have never seen such a quality game that was also so broken. Servers are janky. PvP is beyond broken. The community thinks that animation canceling is actually a combat feature. I could live with the last one but Cyrodiil is a shell of what it used to be. Yet, I would still call it the best MMO out right now.
