Not really surprised, but it's not sounding very MMO like. They said around a year ago that they're focusing on the Western console market and centred around single player/co-op gameplay.
This particular line from one of their past conferences also makes me think it's not a full on MMO
"The game will incorporate community elements where players can trade goods, form guilds, and attack specific dungeons. It will also feature guild versus guild combat."
Developers seem hesitant to use the term 'MMORPG' for online open world games when they're being released on console.
It sounds like what Crimson Desert is touting... single player RPG & MMORPG in one
I wonder what 2 is like.
And don't hold back now.
Yeah, could end up being like Bless UNLEASHED

Then I saw that they decided to go with a garbage, weightless 'aCtIoN cOmBat' system I do /not/ want to be flitting around like a damn hummingbird on crack.
This is part of a major shift I've been seeing in this sector of the online game industry; and it coincidently started with Genshin Impact back in 2019/2020; and in concept probably even before that with just the rise of smaller 4-player co-op experiences gaining popularity, games like Warframe & Mabinogi Heroes where the players only interacted via hubs and chatrooms are becoming more the standard model.
Whatever ArcheAge 2 was supposed to be, it'll likely be more like these aforementioned game experiences- possibly open world; but definitely NOT filled with other players, until you are sent to a specialized smaller stable instance or town hub.

The game was ruined by a P2W system... but the game itself was actually pretty good. If the new AA is an actual MMO with the same elements, it has a lot of potential. Let's just hope it isn't ruined by P2W again.
