“When you access a PvP area, you are notified you are entering a Kanly War of Assassins.”
The abuse of the lore, I have called this before an "anything goes" approach, but I think it works more like this, an "anything with branding" approach:
1. Developers decide on an element of gameplay (here it is PvP in a mainly PvE Map).
2. Someone who has zero credentials in writing tries to find a tie in to the lore. Here it does not need one but they find mention of Kanly and just stick it in.
Just lost a potential sale. PVP absolutely ruins games like this, and forcing players who need to explore the deep desert to engage in PVP completely alienates the bulk of the MMO market. Also, for the lore nazis, pvp doesn't make any sense if players are all Fremen. The Fremen wouldn't ever be fighting each other except for the odd duel.
When will devs realize that PVP should be a choice, and locking whole areas of the game off behind pvp walls will ensure a sales failure? And Even worse, they state that as the game goes on, the maps become more and more pvp and less and less pve, so that when players are finally fed up with forced pvp, they've already wasted countless hours in the game. The main complaint of PVP players in MMOs is that there "isn't anyone flagged for pvp." That's because the vast majority of MMO gamers don't want to pvp, or would rather pvp when they choose to instead of when they need to get to someplace to progress and can't without getting murdered, trolled and camped.
But I'm wasting keystrokes. They made the decision to ruin another game, which is par for the course for funcom. Nothing anyone says will make any difference.

Dire.
