    Its really simple.

    1. Flagged Purple you are open to any PvP encounter, high risk you lose less on PvP death. You drop glint and you lose some crafting supplies on your person.

    2. Flagged Green you wish not to PvP, You drop 2 x Glint and crafting supplies because you are low risk so you lose more on death.

    3. Flagged Red - you have been PKing and now your corrupted, killing a green makes your corrupted and you now drop gear when killed and 4 x more glint and crafting supplies on your person. You are also marked on the map for all to see with a red dot. You are debuffed for every player you kill this way and become easier and easier to kill.  Only way to remove corruption is to stay logged on and gain exp by killing mobs or getting killed by a player.

You can switch from Green or Purple flagged at will out of combat.

I also made this thread on these forums to give more depth if you want to know more about the protection Green Flagged players have.

Let me say right now, if this is the system that comes in at launch it will be a disaster. Do I have to say why? OK, the system is obscuring the status of players by having those who do not wish to participate in PvP still being killable. Hopefully once testing is done they will realise this and change course.
You could be right. So much of Ashes is we will have to see if that works. This flagging system has already been used in L2. So I am not sure thats the problems I am woried about but we all have our lists.

You keep saying it's the same as Lineage 2.

I will just ask:  Do you honestly believe that the majority of today's players want a game like Lineage 2?  If you take your average PvE player and toss him into the Lineage 2 game how do you think that is going to end?

My perspective is that I can already hear the screams of rage from all the "Green" (I want nothing to do with PvP) flagged PvE players as they get killed by Green, Purple, and Red flagged players.

    We shall see.

This game is taking notes from L2, Archage, and Crafting from KtoR. The fan base knows this and IS has sold 100K + A2 keys. (shrugs) Yet still, as you said, we shall see =-)

The only unique solution Steven Shariff has found is how to kill your game faster than ever before.

The PvE players will leave quickly because they don't want to get ganked by the PvPers.

And if you have live GMs going around perma-banning people for  "exploiting" the horrible flagging system then that will chase the PvPers away as well.

It's never been a question of if AoC will be a disaster, it's a question of how big a disaster it's will be.

Oh, I think it will on a "titanic" scale ;)

Ashes forums are filled with people talking about PvP. The showcases have always had some info on PvP even if its the questions at the end of the stream. There is guilds forming now filled with people talking about PvP in their discords. If you dont know, you just have not been following the game at all.

I believe that the natural inclination of a PvE player is to see a flag that your turn on for PvP, and you can set to GREEN, and believe that means that they are safe.  They may understand that OTHER people will put on a flag to PvP, but I think many if not MOST will assume that as long as they have their flag set to GREEN they will be safe.  And especially safe from other GREEN flagged players.

I think they will be in absolute shock the first time they are ganked.

I was surprised how many people in FO were livid at getting ganked in a gank-zone even though a gank free continent was available.   So many left the game over that issue, and that was were it could be avoided.

I think much of the population isn't ready for PvP - and to the extent where 90% of the player base has an allergic reaction if it is happening anywhere in the world whether it impacts them or not.

I think people that have not been following Ashes and play will have allot leave as well. No box cost and just a monthly sub to play. So its not like they will be losing allot =-) My guess is 70% or more of the people that play Ashes will leave, and then the game will settle into in base.

I hope so, although I think you'll lose 90% upfront - and if they hang on and stay with the vision the base should grow over time.  They got to get past the blast of complainers in the forum who didn't read the box and DO NOT PANIC.

It's not hardcore pvp enough, let all these pvper's put their money where their mouth is and have their own hardcore game...I am sure it will be a grand success.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Well that’s kind of what happened here.  Stephen is a former Archeage whale. He made a ton of money in (my opinion) very shady things like multi level marketing of Xango Juice. IMHO he saw the Crowdfunding and Kickstarter and said “I can get these people to build the PvP nirvana”. So he put up some of his money, seems to have raised many multiples of that from players, may or may not have paid himself back his seed money, and is making his dream PvP game.

After playing so many games where the PvE players demand all the development budget for their PvE interests, its refreshing that someone with a vision doesn't care about appealing to the broadest community and instead is making a PvP game that they dreamt of when growing up. Now I get to hear the PvE players complain and try to bring AOC down but I think when it comes out, it will stick around.

Throne and Liberty - PVP game at heart
New World - latest expansion has just one PVE raid and multiple changes for PVP including a FFA zone and where the highest tier content can be obtained.

As usual, I'll wait 6 months or more after it releases and then read reviews, watch videos, etc. It should be obvious by then if the game is succeeding and what kind of game it is. If the focus is FFA PvP then I'll skip it, not my cup of tea.

If it is a FFA PvP game, it will be interesting to see how successful it is long term.

It would seem so, but I am not sure to what extent. However, the question remains why would you call players who can be attacked by other players "PvE" players? Tagging systems traditionally allow you not to take part so that's what a player will be expecting, I think it is bizarre.

Its non stop everywhere I go. I have played Path of exile since closed alpha and that game is plagued by PvE players demanding PvP be phased out even though PvP was part of the original vision.

Its funny you mention new world because it was basically suppose to be a full loot KOS survival game to start.

Dark and darker is another game which mixes pvp and pve and its gross how the players treat the developers when they have stated their vision for the game over and over.

Diablo 4 is another example of a IP that has ALWAYS had PvP has now been reduced to an antiquated zone with no reason to be in it because all the other pve zone's drop rates have dwarfed its potential.

Diablo 3 cancelled pvp just a few months before releasing after being in development for almost a decade and had pvp announced and included in its core vision since the start.

I could keep going. It seems that any PvP game that also has PvE in it, I hear droves of people asking for the devs focus to be on PvE because its not League of Legends, therefor its not a PvP core game.

People with different desires will always try to sway a team into making a game aligned with their wants. More people are into PvE and single player games but that doesn't mean there isn't a market for PvP. Its just not he largest market.

I applaud Stephen for what hes doing, and of course we will hear the lame ass endless sentiment "Can't Wait to see how long their PvP vision lasts" implying it won't. You are entitled to your opinions but keep your misery and dreams of other peoples dreams failing on a leash.

I applaud what they're attempting to do at AoC and I hope it works!

However, in the games you cited, let's not pretend that market forces didn't come into play.  The developers didn't see some PvE players crying on the forum and decide to radically alter the direction of the game without the cash incentives to back that up.  They responded to the market.

The concerns over AoC is exactly because it is trying stuff that has been tried before, stuff that has failed, and here's to hoping they pull it off.

Where are you seeing all of the PVE player demands?

Throne and Liberty - PVP game at heart
New World - latest expansion has just one PVE raid and multiple changes for PVP including a FFA zone and where the highest tier content can be obtained.

    Cozy MMOs I guess?

Its non stop everywhere I go. I have played Path of exile since closed alpha and that game is plagued by PvE players demanding PvP be phased out even though PvP was part of the original vision.

Its funny you mention new world because it was basically suppose to be a full loot KOS survival game to start.

Dark and darker is another game which mixes pvp and pve and its gross how the players treat the developers when they have stated their vision for the game over and over.

Actually you are wrong, its exactly what happened. Market forces? You do realize New World delayed its release and redesigned the entire foundation before it ever went to market? Don't just say things because they sound good. The developers do in fact interact with the players on the forums.

I was part of the Closed Testing group for Path of Exile which directly worked with GGG to balance PvP, debug, and give feedback. I saw exactly what happened in there and exactly how the players on the forums acted and the result. Its a headache for developers to balance pvp in games with extensive itemization and PvE, PvP balancing coinciding.

Yeah New World changed before release cause they saw the game was going to fail hard if they didn't. Lets not pretend otherwise and I was in the betas.

Even today the pvp is unbalanced its not even funny.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

The game industry is too profit driven. If you are justifying altering the developers vision for the game they want to make, in order to appeal to larger demographics yielding better profit margins, then we should just stop making MMOs and everyone should just start creating Mobile games or fortnite clones.

I think AAA games will dwindle. I think the industry is over bloated and people are chasing previous year's profit margins. Developers like Iron Mace (Dark and darker) where the developers use their own gear, work out of a ju jitsu gym (pro bono until profits come in), and making games THEY personally want to play, will be the future. AAA will still exist but many companies will learn that proper management and delivering smaller, cheaper, more controlled projects will yield more profitable results.
