Also interesting move on going DRM free.....it's almost like they want to be able to say, "piracy!" if sales tank.
I doubt that considering DRM doesn't actually prevent piracy as successfully as it used to anymore, it might delay it for a day or two which is why there won't be a pre-load period, instead.
This has more to do with the fact DRM has become a big source of contention, especially among single-player games and this is an offline only game. DRM can cause weird performance issues that are hard to get around and EA/BioWare have opted to not hassle with that since there is already gonna be enough of doomer content on the internet about the game regardless of how good it is or isn't.
Yeah no, denuvo is hard as hell to crack and not many scenes group can, like mentioned by kitarad. Lots of games with denuvo are out now and haven't been cracked yet.
Denuvo really helps game sales in that it pushes legit sales up higher, when it's a good game, as lots of gamer pirates included don't want to wait 6 months or more to play a game when it comes out.
Take for example Black Myth Wukong and Star Wars outlaws.
I am not so sure Veilgard will sell that well but we will just have to wait and see. I predict lower than expected sales.
I think lower than expected launch sales is expected given the doubts, and the hate campaign.
I'm going to predict that, like Inquisition, it will have strong long tail sales, as those who get their hands on it will spread strong word of mouth, and that will coincide with discounts. What the impact of that will be on Bioware, who knows.
If sales were their concern they would have every incentive to use it if it was going to push up sales enough that it's worth the other hassles that come with using it which are numerous and well documented. Denuvo is very consumer un-friendly, and it causes a lot of technical issues with the performance of many games that wouldn't otherwise exist if it weren't for Denuvo, this is well documented. BioWare would have weighed and may have decided that the cons outweigh the pros.
Don't get me wrong I am not singing the praises of denuvo but lets be real its not that easily cracked.
As for the sales angle I can think of a very good reason why they are not putting denuvo in, its not tracking well and they don't want to turn others away with it AND it's also a good excuse if sales tank.
Game failed/tanked cause toxic gamers and pirates!!!!! ?o?o? The two go to excuses we hear instead of just accepting a game sucked. It's up there with oh but the hate train hurt it.
If a game was good there wouldn't be a "hate train" cause all that is.... is lots of people expressing the samish opinion that a game sucks and we all know that nowadays if you dont agree with me then you MUST be toxic/hateful etc etc ad nauseam!
I am curious to see how it turns out.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

A "hate train" before a game even comes out isn't valid. Meanwhile basically every gaming content creator who has actually put hands on the thing has had nothing but good things to say.

Opinions based on what people have seen is.
We do it here all the time... expression opinions on what we have seen from dev clip, trailers etc etc.
It's not a "hate train"....that's just a term people use when they can't defend their own opinion any better and seem to feel they are a minority in what they think.
As for content creators, as someone who's friends are in a content creator discord led by a pretty well know creator that is sponsored lots and earns a living doing only this I can say with confidence their opinions are often "biased" or colored.
Every new thing is great and AMAZING like sliced toast seen for the first time..at least for awhile.

hmmm it's a bit of a hate train.

I watched some in game combat and I am really excited about this. IMO combat is a big part of what makes a good game. It also melds some thing together in combat I don't think I have seen done before. I just don't know when I will get to it lol. DG2 is killing all my time right now.

I have to agree that the last people you want to take notice of when it comes to "will you buy" are streamers. Let me point out the bleeding obvious while I am here, modders are "content creators", streamers are not.
How did Star Wars Outlaws go down with the streamers btw? That got a decent but hardly stellar 75 at MC. I think gaming journalist reviews for all their faults are the best litmus test we have.

There could be several reasons why almost every content creator had a great time with it:
1. It's actually great. No explanations needed.
2. It's made to look / feel great. What this refers to is that a producer can showcase the best bits while hiding warts and pimples. Please note that if this is the case, the judgment of creators is incomplete(essentially).
3. The "new car" effect. You know the effect. You start playing a new game and if it's any good, at first and even at second, you feel like it's great. But the more time you spend with it, the less good it becomes. This differs from point #2 in that nobody's hiding anything. It's the player who's, basically, flashed. And as such, willingly ignores whole elements.
4. Creators are being ... sponsored. They get a preferential treatment or other undisclosed benefits from devs. And in return for those benefits(which might also be $$$ btw), they are obligated to present the game in as positive way as possible.

How do we know which it is? I mean, it's most likely a mixture of them.

I have to disagree here the journalist or professional critics tend to suck and their reviews tend to not be very reflective or accurate to what people generally like. They like streamers have biases.
In most cases the general population score is more accurate on is a game good and if gamers like it by far over any pro critic score.
The 91 critics score gave it a 75/100 while the 2.4k+ user score is 5.4/10. The user score is far more reflective of what to expect of the game IMO.
As for how did streamers view it...really depends on who some loved it I am sure and others didn't.
The trick with streamers is just to watch them play the game to see the gameplay yourself if you don't have a game and make your own idea on what you see cause ofc a sponsored streamer will not tend to be like going about how this and that sucks...for obvious reasons.

The problem there is that the user score can often get review bombed while the Critic score is likely to get over egged, so they face the same issue of a distorted mean score. With Star Wars Outlaws getting a 75 and Anthem a 59 I think you can use the MC score fairly reliably.
One thing that is very important is to look at the low scoring MC scores, why were they low? You can spot pet peeves that a rave review will not even mention such as:
Poorly optimised controls for the PC - which may just mean you buy later. Humour which rings hollow, humour is the hardest thing to put in a game which is to the taste of all players. Difficulty spikes where you can even take the setting down to "Skills of a Limpet Level" and you are thinking "I am the guy who keeps saying we need harder games". Poor story, it is easy to see how good the graphics is, reasonably easy to see how good the combat is, but really hard to tell from a video if the story is good enough. And others.

That's a "you're mileage may vary" type of thing. The streamers/reviewers "I" listen to DO represent what I like, or better said, they give good reviews and I can see whether I like the games or not.
As you say, the best thing is to see them playing and note the things one likes or doesn't like.
there are a lot of streamers who are just there for entertainment purposes or they get too caught up in their own popularity.
