Embers Adrift will migrate over to Steam--and be temporarily free to play in the meantime-after Stormhaven Studios terminated its contract with its payment processor for nonpayment.

You really should make the effort to put a name to "System"
THe Quality of this site is a direct reflection of "SYSTEM's" incompetence.
THAT should be the news. ?
I hope this will give more of you the chance to try it (and prove the trolls wrong).
My first instinct was that Embers Adrift would have probably done something to deserved it, but based on quick Google News search it looks like Digital River has done the same to multiple customers.

I do think they should’ve chose steam when they originally released the game. I honestly feel they’d have a much larger player base.
I may jump back in from time to time to solo grind and explore, but that's not something that will keep the lights on.
It has carved out it's modest space and endured which is more than some MMORPG attempts have managed. Some credit is due for that alone.
And it worked sufficiently for them to endure, up until Digital River decided to be problematic for them. That's more success for them than most expected.
I don't see much room for critique on Stormhaven Studios here.
Digital River, a US-based e-commerce company that handles online payments for software developers, has been delaying payments to merchants since midsummer 2024. Some say that Digital River has no intention of making payments and may be entering a liquidation process.

Think the game’s issues start with how players are dumped into the world on a path and you fight bunnies and deer to start. That sets the tone right there. Not a good one in my opinion.

The old school days of sitting on the zone edge begging for a group are over. Only a small niche of the market will tolerate that anymore. Unfortunately this game is trying the old school method and getting the expected niche response.
I wish them the best but I think there's a better way forward. Someone needs to look at the problem from a different angle and quit trying the same old solutions from the past.
And imagine, through the power of the Internet, you could have made a nice informational post instead of insulting someone you do not know.
Funny part is you made my rhetorical point for me so thank you. In this context the rhetorical point it utilized to further the conversation by making people be curious and wonder about what the answer could be. And maybe they will go research it. So again thank you.
Its something they teach in higher ed... you know where I got a Bachelor's, 2 Master's and a a certificate and taught for 20 years. I promise you if I had any superpower its being educated and not ignorance.
Even in this day and age there is something nice about being part of a village of players, where people are known. In most MMO's outside of your guild you are a nobody, but here it just feels different.
Is difficult to explain but you run a dungeon with a group, end up on people's friend lists, then get invites when they see that you log in again. And its real dungeoning, not just a race to the loot chest at the end.
Anyway, its entirely free for now, and a small download, since it is the one successful HDRP Unity engine MMO on the market (Unity builds are relatively small), so if you want to try some old school dungeoning just jump in and say yes when someone is looking to fill a group.
Holy crap that person was 10 levels beyond the rudeness and aggression that's normal for around here, glad they are gone lol.
There is actually an NPC nearby on that path that directs you to others nearby where you get your first quests of several in the starting region. So right from the get go it's not just fighting bunnies and deer. You're selling it a bit short.
