Nosense of info that feels like reading AI

Anyway, OP should not taking seriously lol

This post is ridiculous and very inaccurate. The fact that this person is even discussing dragons, shows you all you need to know. Years ago, we saw the end of dragons. I would love to see a new dragon emerge, to be honest, because we haven't seen them for quite some time.
    Welcome to the forums!

Don't you guys hold back now! :)

GW 2 isn't what it is because of WoW. ANet could've easily went with "GW, the modern engine version". But people requested the open world. People requested the ability to jump. People requested races(not as much as others, but it is there).

Would I like GW 1, the modern engine version? ... let me correct that. I would LOVE that. But it is what it is. And GW 2 is fair enough, just not really for me.
Yes, I don't see GW2 design as purely being GW + WoW = GW2. But a strong influence from WoW is there. Indeed none of the Western (I don't know enough about eastern) AAA MMOs launched since WoW can be called a WoW clone, they just show a strong influence from WoW. It is the cheaper AA (?) MMOs that are near enough clones of WOW.

Like what? I actually don't see the influence of WoW, except the adjacent artstyle. I see GW 1 and WAR, but not WoW.

Man, really scraping the bottom of the barrel with an "article" based on a 15 year old joke. This post in "tongue in cheek"

    I'm a MUDder. I play MUDs.

If you will allow me to turn that on its head, GW had a lot of obvious differences to WOW, not open world, more strategy etc. Where do you see GW2 as being meaningly different from WoW? A lot of this is about what you don't have as much as what you do have.

Thank you. I can. But please note that I haven't played GW2 in ages(since its release, in fact). It might have become more or less like WoW interim. WoW also changed, so it too might have become more or less like GW 2.

GW 2 and WoW share only MMO things. What makes GW 2, GW 2 and WoW, WoW, isn't actually similar at all. Similarities are: structure(you have hp, you have xp etc etc), control(very similar) and artwork(similar, but not completely). Oh and open world. But there it stops. From now on, I am speaking from the GW side.

GW 2 is much more freeform. Take Dynamic Events, Hearts etc. These are more like WAR's PQs than anything in WoW. In fact, GW 2 is very reminiscent of WAR here and it looks exactly like WAR, but without all the pointless quests(just actually important and memorable stuff). A lot of impromptu grouping as opposed to formal grouping in WoW.

Power difference("eta") is much smaller in GW 2 than in WoW. Take level 30 and 50. In GW 2, you have a fighting chance, but odds are on the 50's side. In WoW? You can't as much as scratch 50 and get flattened by it.

What about content you do? In GW 2, you do whatever is present, fun, efficient, whatever. There isn't end all be all to it. There isn't a hardcore formula to it. In WoW? Yeah, you do what you're told, pretty much. The structure is better / more interesting though.

    That is that for now.

Terrible article that is nonsensical and also degrades (even in a joking way) probably one of the best non-WoW MMORPGs out there. I would can this entire series.

Well I have the same issue as yourself the last time I played GW2 must be ten years ago. Every MMO adopts at least some of the latest trends in the genre, so it is likely that there has been some "borrowing" of ideas both ways between the two MMOs since launch. The principle I see here is that over time MMOs do not become more divergent, quite the opposite they become more similar to each other.

I see how WoW was a more structured game than GW2, that was a big difference, but I still think GW2 is closer to WoW than GW. I certainly think the likes of ESO and LotRo are closer to WoW than GW2 as well. That's the thing, it is down to how different from WOW you make your new MMO (if at all), that has become a hallmark of the genre.

just recently tried GW2 for the first time, played maybe 20 hours and couldnt play it anymore, the art style was unappealng to me and it felt like I was just playing a cheaper version of WoW, I didnt really see it being different at all

I don’t see that at all. The gameplay centers around finding “areas” but then going out into those areas to find events. And of course their main story that runs through the game. It feels nothing like world of Warcraft let alone a cheap version of it.

It's just that GW2 became an actual MMO. GW 1 was and is not an actual MMO. That's what everyone sees when they compare WoW and GW2. They are very different games with different motivations. One can easily love WoW while hating GW2(and vice versa). GW1 isn't anywhere near this Venn diagram btw. It's yet another unrelated game.

WoW and GW2 simply look similar.
